(I hope I remembered to click anon on my last ask otherwise that’s embarrassing 😅) But (sort of) followup question: For you guys, are the colors your names, with the Renaissance names coming later, or nicknames? What’s the story of how you got your Renaissance names?

so yeah!! the renaissance names *technically* came first, dad thought they were cool and wrote them down for us, and used to colours to remember who was who. but he totally gave up on remembering that and stashed the book away until donnie asked!

so. i guess if donnie had been less curious, id still be "blue". SHUDDER

When did you guys start wearing masks, anyway? Did you get to choose the color or were you assigned them? (Genuine questions)

genuinely the only reason we have the masks is because dad couldnt tell us apart lmao (hes terrible at names, and honestly same)

at first he just painted little splotches on our shells in different colours, and left donnie the colourless one because hes a softshell. (do not paint softshells. no no)

so we were "blue", "orange", "red", and "normal one" for a lone time

but then we got older, and we wouldnt squirm when he tried to get us to wear shit, so we got the masks! donnie felt left out so dad got him a purple one, and so then he was "purple"

did dad give us our real names? yes. did he remember them? no. for the LONGEST time (im exaggerating it was the first two years of my mutant life) us siblings called eachother colours names too! well. toddler babble version of eachothers colour names. But then donnie asked dad why we were called colours, which led him to searching for the book where he wrote our real names, which led to us calling eachother those instead because lets be real. leo is WAY cooler than blue.

but yeah!! cool shit!!

(sometimes i wonder if blue wouldve been my favourite colours still if say, *i* had been red. but then i remember blue is THE BEST and i would ALWAYS LOVE IT and i was DESTINED to be blue. obviously)
