Here’s something to keep you up at night:

Do you think that Stan “I missed my twin brother so much I pretended a wax figure of myself was him for a week” Pines ever figured out that the copy machine in his office could duplicate people?

Do you think he ever tried copying himself? 

He mentioned that he’d “finally fixed” the machine at the beginning of Double Dipper but look at that thing. It doesn’t just look old and worn down, it’s broken, dented and has pieces chipped off of it. Almost like someone wailed on it with a baseball bat, deliberately trying to destroy it. Like, maybe someone used it and regretted it afterwards.

Think about that for the rest of your life why don’t you.

Further consider that the copy machine was probably originally Ford’s. Consider the fact that Ford was the first to use it because he missed Stanley so much.

Imagine that Stanley wailed on it not because he used it and regretted it, but that he realized all this and was tormented by it.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I’m not interested in Dipper and Mabel, they’re precious and I adore them both. But like…I’m not really worried about them at all? They really both seem to have their act together. They have problems sometimes, but they always manage to resolve them pretty solidly just by being awesome. We should all be so lucky as to have our shit together as much as these twelve year olds do.

The Stans, on the other hand, are a hot mess. Both of them have mysterious backstories full of pain, trouble, trauma and adventure that have only been elaborated on a little. Both of them are profoundly flawed and emotionally constipated. Their relationship is like, this complicated mess of resentment and betrayal and guilt and love and dependency, and although you have a sense it’ll be at least somewhat repaired for the sake of a happy ending, it feels like it could go in so many different directions.

So of course I’m way more interested and invested in that story.

I ADORE Dipper and Mabel to bits, but the Stans have so much potential. It’s their story that’s wrecked my life.
