Yo! lu the bunny! It's been a while since I sent a message. Anyways I have a question for you and this one feels kind of important and it's about the Salvastra Mission AU.....well actually 2 questions.
1. How did the governments of Earth react to learning about the Eridians but also on a related note how did the public of Erid react to humanity too after grace arrived on Erid?
2. What's going on with the Eridians who went to Earth? I ask this because we have mostly focused on the Erid side of things and in your initial post about this AU you had a drawing showing earth having a habitat for the Eridians with a village inside, just thought I'd ask.

Well hello! This ended up being a long one so prepare for it-
Okay so first question: i haven't given that much thought into what the governments would think, more how the people would react (and governments are made of people, anyway, is not like they're desinbodied entities) because i think that's more important, also the socio-political scape would have changed a ton in 30 years and i dont feel like putting too much thought into that right now- tho it is very fun to speculate.
(Like if i'm really putting any thought into the hypothetical political state of post-mary launch Earth i'll say at some point the USA probably imploded. Because the way it operates internaly and internationally is just not sustainable in a dying Earth, NASA would have survived this because their work is important and used all over the place not just the us but that would leave countries like Brazil, China and India [possibly Russia? they're a big energy expost but not that much into food production which would be a big thing then] to take the US's place in power and influence- also countries like Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Algeria, etc would have SUCH an economic boom following the launch because of Sahara astrophage production, and each of these countries would have different reasons to want to contribuit on the mission, be it to show off their own technological advancements or expanding them. see? very fun)
All information from the Mary is by default public information. Reactions varied, as they were bound to, some people thought it was fake, some made conspiracy theories, some people were freaky about it, some had existencial crises, some people just didnt care, but the prospect of friendly, kind, intelligent aliens was overwhelmingly exciting, this HAS been a dream for humanity for thousands of years after all.
The rough timeline of what happened after is:
The first year of the beatles return, everyone was banded together focused on getting the taumoeba to venus;
Second year was monitoring to see if it toke effect, it did imediatly;
Third year- The Salvastra project starts with the objective to send taumeaba to other neighboring stars- Eridani being the top priority and the first to launch. Going from earth to erid is a looong trip, so in that time other smaller missions or simple unmanned probes have been sent (and come back) from closer star systems
As for Erid- When Rocky and Grace arrived, Erid was in a state of general widespread panic and hopelesness; they had been dealing with progressive cooling for years but had just crossed the time limit considered "safe." Also there is a post here—I’ll share the link if I find it—about Erid attempting to expand their space program while awaiting the Blip-A, only to find everyone sent out of orbit dies from a mysterious space disease- i think that definetly happend too.
So the general consensus was that the ship failed, it was hopeless, and there was nothing that could be done and they were all going to die. When the hail mary arrived it was a miracle.
Reactions ALSO varied, of course, Erid is not a utopia and Eridian society is just as complex and diverse as ours, there would be people not happy about so many resources being given to an alien, there would be people distrusting of the concept of "mysterious deadly space force" and those who think the astrophage crises is a fabricated one in the first place, there would be those having existencial crises, there would be those who just dont care.
But Grace bought one of their astronauts home, the solution to their sick star, and knowledge far beyond anything they could have imagined at great personal loss and sacrifice, most people adore him.
They already had a very good impression of humanity; and then comes Salvastra, a mission sent out of worry for Erid? Yeah, humans might be really weird-hearing, but Eridians in a broad sense tend to like and think very highly of them (they tend to view Humans as much kinder than Humans view themselves as a species.)
OveralI in my mind i just think Erid and Earth are simply. Forever Bonded. Not just because they saved each other (you dont survive an extinction level event together without forming some kind of trauma bond), but because Eridians and Humans are, in a way, complementary: we can do stuff they cant and they can do stuff we cant, our strengths cover eachother weaknesses, and we just work really well together—you can put two of them on a ship and they'll even save the stars.
As for the second question: i'll keep it brief because i'll probably make a separate post just about the Erid biome on Earth- but thats for the the same reason they have humans to Erid! Establishing communications and learn about eachother! The biodomes are living spaces for the people that live/work outside their planet, so embassy, species representatives, and many scientists all live between there and the ships they came in, the village is on a replica of one of erid's landscapes for the Eridian's comfort
