i really like the tiny little domestic habits peaking through all the fucked-up-ness of horrifically immoral people. 16yr old dazai kills people on the regular and is marvellously skilled at torture, which he enjoys doing. he leaves work covered in the blood of his enemies with a gunshot wound to the thigh and a bright smile on his face as he contemplates the next suicide method he’ll implement, but then he goes to his partner’s apartment and plays video games for the rest of the night before passing out in bed and complaining that chuuya’s sheets are too hot for him to sleep well. when he showers the blood runs red down the drain and he has to stitch himself up to avoid infection but also he has to remind chuuya that they’re almost out of shower gel and one of them needs to get out the mould spray because the damp is creeping up the shower curtain again. nobody around him considers him even human and yet spattered in between mission updates and orders of mafia brutality dazai’s texts contain him complaining to mori about having a cold, and mori recommending different soups to try. negotiations with chuuya about what colour rug to buy and what time they should meet at the furniture store. an on-going game of mental chess that he’s been texting back and forth with ango. oda telling him he left his notebook in his car.

i just like when humanity seeps through the most inhuman environments because regardless of how dark people’s lives are, they still end up being people.
