Like the survivors of the 1966 University of Texas shooting, John Woods, who was a student at Virginia Tech during the 2007 shooting that left 33 dead, expressed a different view Tuesday. Legislatures listened as the survivors of this shooting told their horrific stories of the event. They are true testimony to the effects of not being armed in these situations are. They were completely helpless as 33 of their friends were shot and killed. We need to arm our students and faculty so that they can be fully prepared for the next person who has the idea to go and take the lives of innocent people. These gunmen are cowards and would never step up to a gun fight, so to put the idea in their head that they might be up against one might be enough of a deterrent that the situation might be avoided in the first place.

College leaders are still highly against allowing students to carry on campus. Perhaps this is because the college leaders are not the ones getting shot at in class rooms. They are safe and sound locked away in their office. Only 25 two- and four-year colleges, located in Colorado, Utah, Virginia and Michigan, have opted to allow concealed carry on their campus. The decisions should be made a lower level by the people who are on the front line of this epidemic of mass shootings.

Liberty students who have a Virginia concealed carry permit and permission from campus police will now be able to carry a loaded gun into classrooms, according to a March 22 revision to school policy. University staff and visitors may also bring firearms into university buildings on campus. Students remain banned from bringing guns into residence halls, even with a permit. I feel that this is a step in the right direction. If I were a bad guy wanting to shoot up a school and saw signs suggesting that concealed carry is permitted on campus, I might rethink the location of my next target seeing as there might be some opposition. Most of these gunmen are cowards. They would never hold up in a gun fight which is exactly what they would get at this university.

People around the country are standing up and saying that enough is enough. People want their own personal protection to prevent becoming a victim in a school shooting. College campuses in the following states: Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Oregon, Utah, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin have now been forced in different ways to allow the carrying of firearms on their premises. I believe that this is a step in the right direction. These are challenging times, so the only way to combat the violence is defending ourselves with the ability to wage violence against it.

As we can see, there is usually a pattern of follow-up shootings after these events hit the news. These copy cat gunmen see the fame that others have received for their shooting and want to go out and do the same thing. All it takes is for someone to have a bad day that wants to make your day worse. Put the reward of fame behind it and you can see what draws these people to commit these terrible acts of violence.

Preliminary investigations suggest that two separate shooting incidents near the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, which cost one man his life and wounded six others, were related, according to a statement posted by the city of Champaign. Police are looking for the suspect or suspects in both incidents, which occurred early Sunday morning.

On top of this, again, no one inside was armed and they had to wait for police to show up.

"He looked directly at me and said ... you are the lucky one, I will not shoot you if you give this to the cops," Mathew Downing said Friday.

This is a story of a tragic shooting that happened in Oregon. It is the account of a survivor. The only reason that this person survived was so that the gunman could deliver a flash drive to police. The shooter walked into a room and told everyone to sit in the center. Other than the person he asked to deliver the flash drive, he stood each of them up and began shooting them one by one after asking them their religious affiliation. Harper-Mercer was the gunman and apparently reloaded his two handguns from ammunition in his backpack, Downing said. Police arrived and the gunman "leaned about half of his torso out of the classroom to fire on the police." The fact that he was able to reload means that everyone in the class room had a chance to fight back, but didn’t. No one was armed, so they were forced to sit there as their friends were shot one by one.

A new state law went into effect that allows students with concealed carry licenses to bring their guns onto most college campuses.

Students in Texas are no longer at the mercy of domestic terrorists. Lone wolf attacks are swiftly becoming an epidemic in the United States. All it takes for one of these attacks to occur is for some loser whose having a bad day that wants to make yours worse. Will you be ready? I believe that students in Texas will be more prepared than the rest of us.

Because of recent state legislation and court rulings, eight states now have provisions allowing the carry of concealed weapons on college campuses. These states include Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Wisconsin. I think this will be an interesting situation to study as this is a very new concept. I personally believe that these campuses will be safer as it will present a harder target for domestic terrorism. Perhaps one or two students are in danger of being shot by another student due to accident or personal aggression. However, I would take those numbers over the numbers derived from a mass shooting.
