Don't be "colorblind."

I love my friends of other races but if y'all love me, too, don't ever talk that "colorblind" talk to me. I feel like, because I am openly counterculture & I love everybody, my friends be forgetting that I'm extremely pro-black. Don't do that shit where, when I talk about black issues, u deflect by saying shit like: "But more animals die in slaughterhouses than black people do to police violence..." "But slavery is over so u can't say people are still affected by it..." "But focusing on black people instead of all people keeps us divided..." Think about it this way. U and your families are the only ones who know what it was like to grow up in your home, with your challenges and good memories and traumatic experiences, etc. Only YOU understand how that stuff affected u then and now. U can tell me, but I'll never be able to fully understand cuz I didn't experience it. Now imagine that same reality exists for a whole race of people who have only had equal rights in this country for 52 years. When my MOM was born, segregation was still a real thing. Think about that. U have a right to your personal opinion about anything, but if your opinion invalidates the existence of ANY issue that affects black people or our right to openly discuss African American oriented topics then your opinion doesn't count. At all. Not even a little. If that doesn't sit well with u, and u're MY friend, u best believe we gonna talk about it. That shit will get addressed. I love all my friends. I don't need to be colorblind to love u. But the same way u wouldn't fix your mouth to tell a Jewish person to get over the lasting affects of their people's suffering during the holocaust, u ain't gonna tell me to get over the state of my people now. If u love me, then love ALL of me, including the aspects of my blackness that u have no access to. I grew up learning what Michelangelo and Plato and Shakespeare contributed to society and culture, but I get blowback when I say that black people created hip hop!?! Chill. I love all my friends and I'll identity as alternative til the day I die. But my ass-length dreads and Adinkra symbol tattoos didn't just show up recently when being "woke" got trendy, I BEEN about this life. I am pro-You, I am pro-Us, and I am pro-Black. If u're my friend u gotta deal with that. Period.
