The staff of Seattle Grace Mercy West hospital see tragedy on a daily basis. They give the horrible news to families and watch patients fall apart. After a tragic mass murder shooting occurs at the hospital, the staff is left dealing with their own tragedy. They get to be the ones to fall apart, and they get to be the ones to deliver horrible news to their own families. What happens when the doctors are left to pick up the pieces and try to find some sense of normalcy again? Between getting cleared for surgery and fixing themselves, the doctors at SGMW must let the healing begin.

Rachel Berry was born in Brooklyn New York to a single mother, Shelby Berry. Life was difficult from the start. Shelby was a wannabe star who cared much more about finding her next part than being a mother to her daughter. It was made very clear to her at a young age that her mother regretted her existence, constantly blaming young Rachel for her failed Braodway career. Shelby couldn’t keep a job claiming she was only truly meant for the stage, so when Rachel was fourteen she set out to help put food on the table by becoming a bag girl at the local grocery store. They lived in scawler, she hated coming home at night and vowed her life would be different. Rachel, though having her own secret love for the arts and quite a talent for them, shunned that life in fear of turning out like her mother. She knew she would do something more practicle but just as thrilling. When Rachel was fifteen the manger of her gracery store had a heartattack. It was simultaneously frightening and exciting as she watched the paramedics come in an try and stabalize the man before taking him out into the ambulance and off to the hospital. Suddnely she had the urge to ask to go, though she fought it. Of course she wanted the man to pull through but mostly she wanted to see how they were going to make sure he did so. That was the moment she new. Rachel had always been extremely focused and hard working, she had to be the opposite of Shelby, it was imperitive to her, but when she decided she was to become a doctor if, it were the last thing she did, things got turned up a notch or ten. Competive by nature she found it difficult to make friends, but she told herself it was just a tempory price to pay to reach her goals. Rachel was eventually accepted to a number of medical schools but decided to remain at Columbia University, because of her intense love of her school and her city. She was a NewYorker through and through, so accepting her residency at Mercy West was bitter sweet. It was a chance at a fresh start and a whole country between her and her mother, but asorrowful goodbye to the city she loved dearly. Mercy West a great experience, she was learning so much and actually made a few friends. Dani Torres in particular was a special friend. Rachel that there was something vibrant about the girl that pulled her in. When their friendship added benefits Rachel realized she wanted more and expressed that. After a brief time dating things ended and Rachel felt so hurt by the rejection. She isn’t sure how to be friends with Dani but she misses her. After the hospitals merged and became one Rachel found her new idol. Cristina Yang she followed her around like some sort of puppy dog, wanting every bit of knowledge she had. Also she enjoyed watching her work. Rachel wanted to be a Cardio God too.

Teddy Altman is no newcomer to danger. With one tour in Baghdad, she faced enemies, gunfire, and life-threatening situations every second of every day. Upon return to the U.S. under the help of her best friend Owen Hunt, Teddy thought her frequent encounters with danger were over. She became head of Cardiothoracic Surgery and had the great pleasure of teaching one of the most talented residents she'd ever come across, Cristina Yang. Little did she know that this was where her troubles would begin. Long unknown to Owen, Teddy had always been in love with the man, and never said a word. He'd had a fiance, which Teddy secretly looked down on, and now he had a girlfriend whom - althought Teddy respected - she found overzealous in a dangerous way. Upon revealing her feelings for Owen, she thought that would be the end of her hardships, but her best friend didn't immediately come running to be with her. The three of them worked together, and then, tragedy struck in the form of a gunman loose in the hospital. Teddy wished she could be the one who single-mindedly thought only of saving other people in the hospital, but instead all she could think about was Owen and how he hadn't made a real decision between herself and Cristina Yang. She realized, in the end, that life is too short, and that if he really felt strongly for her the way she felt for him, he would be with her without question. So she let him go. It was a hard decision. Now triggered, and dealing with nightmares, shakes, and emotional distance, Teddy is focusing on getting back to work and some sense of normalcy. She has always been a soldier, and she knows her duty is to go on in the face of all that's changed, and keep teaching the next generation of medicine. Someone who has given her great comfort over these past weeks has been Quinn Fabray, another talented resident that Teddy finds promise in. Alongside her and Callie Torres, and Arizona Robbins, the heart surgeon will soldier on and find a way to cope, once more.

Quinn Fabray grew up in New Hampshire outside of Manchester. Her father, Russell, was the CEO at a major bank while her mother, Judy, was a stay at home mom. Her parents weren’t the greatest people, her mother spent most of her free time drinking with her friends instead of looking after Quinn and her older sister Frannie while her father took out his frustrations on his youngest daughter. It wasn’t until the blonde had lost a little weight and joined cheerleading in high school that the head of the Fabray house saw the potential she had. She was pushed by her father to be the best she could be, to make the Fabray name mean something. She graduated at the top of her high school class and was easily accepted into Yale with almost perfect SAT scores. Some of her friends feared she’d get burnt out and end up failing out of the prestigious ivy league school but she proved them all wrong. Not only did she graduate with honors and a degree in Biochemistry, she was accepted into Yale’s Medical school. After getting her doctorate and applying to only the best residency programs she was accepted at Seattle Grace. Even though she’s a fourth year and needs to pick a specialty, she hasn’t found one she really enjoys just yet, though you’ll find her splitting her time between PEDs and Cardio, spending time with Teddy and learning as much as she can from Arizona.

Born and raised in Miami, Dani grew up among the best. Private prep schools, decent cars, and a trust fund that would make anyone’s head spin. Her family was the money of the major church, and her parents, and other family members, followed those teachings to the misinterpreted letter. Her older cousin, Calliope Torres, realized rather quickly, noticing the side glances at passing women or the lingering touches between Dani and her friends. Being of the more liberal side of her family, Callie helped Dani, covered for her for dates and slowly started to try to introduce new thinking to the family, to no avail. Dani graduated high school top of her class and was set to enter pre-med when her family found her with a girl. Beating them to it, Dani ran, getting a scholarship to school and separating herself from her family, even Callie.

The two reconnected as Dani was finishing medical school. as Dani had read a study that Callie did and reached out. She applied to both Seattle Grace and Mercy West, as well as many other residencies, and accepted Mercy West in order to make her own name and not live under her older cousin’s impressive shadow. The two are exceptionally close, and Dani thanks whatever force that pulled them back together for that. Years ago, when Dani was at Mercy West, she met Rachel Berry. The two became fast friends and fell into bed together, and started to hook up rather frequently. Rachel fell for Dani and told her best friend, and Dani tried to feel the same. They dated briefly, but Dani couldn’t find the feelings and she called it off, causing a lot of tension between the two.
