To celebrate the last days of summer I thought I would share my raspberry and lemon raw bars recipe ⭐️
Raw vegan raspberry and lemon bars recipe :
Ingredients :
Base :
1 cup almonds
1 ½ cup pitted dates
Lemon filling :
4 frozen bananas
½ lemon juice
½ tablespoon lemon zest
1/4 cup agave or maple syrup
Raspberry filling :
2 cups frozen raspberries
1 tbsp agave or maple syrup
Directions : For the base add the almonds and dates to a food processor and pulse until it forms a sort of paste. You can add a tiny bit of water to help blend better. Press the dough into a cake pan lined with parchment paper and set aside. For the lemon filling : Blend all ingredients into a high speed blender or food processor until creamy. Pour the filling onto the crust and spread it evenly with a spatula until it covers the base evenly. Let it set in the freezer a bit while you make the raspberry filling. For the raspberry filling : Blend or process all ingredients together. Pour on top of the lemon layer. Final bars : Place the pan in the freezer for at least 3 hours but it’s even better to let it set overnight. Once it’s time to serve let it thaw for 10min and cut into bars or squares. I recommend serving it with Thai basil for a little twist.
A fair warning to fall flavour fans, both Starbucks and Second Cup’s pumpkin spice drinks are not vegan. They are dairy-based additives even if you order the drink with soy, almond, or coconut milk.
Try ordering your drinks with cinnamon dolce and hazelnut syrups (which are dairy free) or ask if your server can add the Pumpkin Spice topping (ingredients shown above, literally just pumpkin spice like it should be) without the pumpkin spice sauce.
Let your friends know about this too if they are vegan or if they have a dairy allergy! These chain coffee shops don’t do a great job of advertising which products are dairy free, so customers have to do a bit of digging, and sometimes even your barista doesn’t know the answer.
Tired of hearing “Yeah, I tried ___ vegan cheese, but it had a weird taste” and not having anything else to recommend? Here are five popular brands of vegan cheeses to get a conversation going about dairy-free cheese alternatives.
I know a lot of people who don’t like Daiya (and feel very emboldened to complain about it at every opportunity). Lucky enough for them, there’s a lot else on the market! These are just a few of my top recommendations, particularly ones that should be easier to find an offer a wider variety in selection and uses.

I was wondering if I can still be considered vegan if I have a tablespoon of local honey every day? I have really severe asthma and eating the honey that has the pollens in it help my lungs not react so terribly to allergens and I have less asthma attacks.
1. Honey is not vegan. It’s great that you presumably eat a majority plant based diet, but no one person redefines what veganism is. It has a definition that’s pretty clear. Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.
2. If your asthma is that severe, you should seek medical help over that. A tablespoon of honey is not magically going to solve your allergy problems. Natural foods can be an excellent aid in our physical and mental health but it’s not a substitute for actual medical science.
3. The composition of bee pollen and propolis varies from region to region. It’s not a controlled subject and therefore cannot give a controlled or sustained remedy to any medical condition. Don’t rule out the possibility of a placebo effect.

Sign this petition to urge the Canadian government towards animal-free testing alternatives in science and medicine.
Canadians, listen up! There’s a government petition you should sign backing the elimination of animal testing by 2020. Call upon the Government of Canada to:
Become an animal testing free Country by 2020;
Ensure that existing and future animals in labs be released alive and in good health instead of being euthanized until animal testing is phased out by 2020;
Ensure that ITR Labs of Montreal is independently investigated for violation of Canada Council on Animal Care guidelines; and
Fully fund the CCAC to prevent conflicts of interest and make the CCAC fully accountable to the Canadian government.
You have until August 4th this year to sign (and get others to sign as well).
Alternatives to animal testing offer a scientific advantage over animal-based trials. These alternatives include:
in vitro (test tube) test methods and models based on human cell and tissue cultures
computerized patient-drug databases and virtual drug trials
computer models and simulations
stem cell and genetic testing methods
non-invasive imaging techniques such as MRIs and CT Scans
microdosing (in which humans are given very low quantities of a drug to test the effects on the body on the cellular level, without affecting the whole body system)
These methods are as a whole more reliable, more cost-effective, more expedient, and more environmentally safe - not to mention more humane.
As a final note: the Canadian law does not require non-medical materials to be tested on animals. So opt for cruelty-free brands as often as possible.
Hello what cruelty free accidental vegan hygien products have you found at the dollar store ? I live in Canada too and am vegan
Delon is a really common dollar store brand for hygiene products that is cruelty free, so whenever I see that I usually grab it. Lately, I’ve also found cheaper drugstore brands appearing in dollar stores, like Kiss My Face a few times, and E.L.F. (for cosmetic cleansing products).

I’m going to be doing a 12 hour stream to raise money for a great farm animal sanctuary in Ontario this Saturday. Winter is an especially tough time for animals up here in the great white north, so I wanted to do a little something to make sure they make it through the snowy season happy and healthy. Please join in if you can!
Even if you’re busy, you can still donate: all proceeds from this new 3D printed item in my shop will also be donated to the sanctuary:
And if you can’t donate, all I ask is that you spread the word! I want to try and get as many people as possible involved, and if all goes well these streams will become regular!

Does ‘vegan’ need to be in your bio? Your eating habits are one of the things about yourself that you think is interesting enough to be put alongside your name and the country you live in??
Veganism is not a diet. Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as possible and practical, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose. It’s believing that killing billions of animals every year for our personal pleasure is wrong. And when you live in a world where most people believe it isn’t wrong, it’s an important part of who you are.
Dried beans and dark green leafy vegetables are especially good sources of iron, even better on a per calorie basis than meat. Iron absorption is increased markedly by eating foods containing vitamin C along with foods containing iron. Vegetarians do not have a higher incidence of iron deficiency than do meat eaters.
