He didn’t really have any choice, did he? He’d have to converse with others if he had any hope of understanding this city in the slightest. As much as he loathed the thought alone of even speaking to any human, he’d have to if he was to get heads or tails of this place. So, icy blue eyes scan the area for anyone of interest. 

“You. What is this place?”

“Oh my, how bold of you, coming up to a young lady and asking her a question already. You didn’t even say hello or asked for my name.”

Charlie feigned offense before giggling softly, a noticeably eerie smile on her face. If people were able to be so straight forward, especially with someone like her, then how could she ever have any fun making people run around in circles?

“Ah, but seeing as you must have had to muster so much courage to speak to me, I guess I can forgive you that for misstep of yours. We’re in a place called Spirale City. And since you asked me a question, let me ask you a question and ask what your name is, dearie.”

“Uh… yeah. I’m not really looking to be anyone’s pet, sorry!” Being bumped down from someone who established and lead a country to someone’s pet would be traumatizing. 

“Oh but you look so positively adorable! Just a cute little amorphous blob. You know, I do treat my pets quite well. You wouldn’t have to want for anything. So what do you say? I say it’s quite a good deal, don’t you agree?”

What do you get when you take Charlie, a shadowy being of immense power and indiscernible intentions and give her a chance to not be a shadowy being of immense power and indiscernible intentions?

You get this smiling little young woman. A bit into the mysteries of the universe, but that’s certainly healthy, yes? And one with quite the affinity for roses for some reason. But surely she’s harmless, yes? Perhaps if you’re interested in meeting this fine young lady, feel free to im me for any plot.

A park was usually meant to be quite a nice and serene place to relax and enjoy oneself. And with all the snow, it also seemed to be quite the perfect place for couples to be together and enjoy a nice evening. Yet it seemed that even a nice place like a park could attract its own fair share of oddities.

“Oh Maxy, I’m so happy that you decided to take me on a stroll here this evening. And here I thought you had forgotten how to be such a gentleman.”

A single woman and man walked through the paths, yet it seemed that the man himself was hardly in any willing state to follow.

“Please, Charlie... you’ve dragged me all over this city... you’ve told me everything you’ve done so far... can you please just let me go already? I know I can’t even begin to do anything to make up for what happened, but if you would just let me g-”

Charlie simply yanked away at a seemingly invisible string, Maxwell being tugged forward.

“Oh look, Maxy! There’s someone else here! Let’s wave hello to the nice stranger, shall we? Hello there, stranger! Hello there!”

Typical day of Yumeko, looking for a place to gamble but instead, she’d buy some board games and other stuff to treat as one due to her gambling desires. As she checks on her smartphone, all of her money went virtual prior to her disappointment.

A store that sells board games and other kid-friendly games, there is a person idling to it, as the black-haired girl glanced at the other.

“Oh, never saw you here. Were you here to buy some games as well?” 

Now wasn’t this quite a wonderful little surprise? Someone running into her and asking her a question? Charlie always did enjoy it when these random strangers wished to strike up a conversation.

With a smile on her face, Charlie nodded in response.

“Why I was indeed looking for something. Though most of these games look so... flashy. I was simply looking for something more classic. Like a chess set.”

So, I know this is probably a bit late, but since there’s still a bit of time before the event late, why not like this ad for a starter with Charlie? And his (un)fortunate assistant...

Maxwell! Charlie seems to have this poor soul on a leash, figuratively and pretty surely literally in some cases as well. Will you help this poor soul? Or will you laugh at his unfortunate predicament?

“Oh my, a present! Who could it possibly be from? Oh, I do hope it’s something nice, something nice indeed!” Charlie smiled as she conjured for a shadowy tendril to reached out and pull at the present’s bow string. “Ah, perhaps it’s from someone I know! Yes, someone I know quite well... maybe they were hoping they could spent a Winter’s Feast Eve with me? Oh, what could it be, what could it be!”

The shadowy tendril tugged away at the present, pulling away the covers before finally it erupted in a burst of brilliant light. Covering her eyes, the bright line shined for some time before finally fading away. And in the present’s place was...

“... Charlie?”

Charlie stared at the former shadow king that was now sitting in front of her, a look of shock on her face. A look of shock that was slowly being replaced by a devious grin.

”Oh... Maxy! It’s you! How have you been.... pal?”

And here comes along a peculiar woman, letting out a slight giggle at the sight of this exhausted young man. “Oh my, you look positively exhausted there, dearie. Didn’t get a good night’s sleep here? I can imagine you must be feeling quite awful, yes?”

…If Varian had been in control of his faculties, that might’ve been the moment when he’d have had the sense to turn and run. As it was, he was stuck being shocked in silence.

Geists, however, seemed to be rather more violent in nature, attacking anything that got in their way and paying no mind to however abused their stolen bodies might become. This one was wary, now, crouching down a bit, completely blackened eyes taking in this strange woman with a hint of respect.

It said nothing, of course, though the hint of a smirk came to Varian’s lips. The screech that came out of it was definitely not any kind of human sound, and as faint wisps of light began to head in its direction at its call, it lunged at the woman in the confusion, aiming to take her to the ground for one of its brethren to possibly wield.

Varian was internally screaming, essentially in a state of panic by this point, but he couldn’t stop it–and it seemed to want to know just what this woman was capable of.

Ah, now wasn’t this just such an interesting turn of events. Someone finally deciding to see if they could bring her, the Shadow Queen, down? How positively humorous! How Charlie missed such foolishness, an idiocy that only proved to entertain her.

With a wild grin forming on her face, shadowy tendrils emerged from the ground, spreading out into a translucent barrier, all to block and protect Charlie from such a foolish attack.

“Oh now, do you honestly think you can lay a hand against me, pal? Do you really think you’ve got what it takes to do me in, pal? Well guess what... you’re wrong... pal!

   “What’s up, not hungry?”

Muttering under his breath in the general direction of a black cat, Willard pursed his lips as he leaned forward, holding a small piece of turkey between his fingers. Seeing the small critter alone on the street, the angel couldn’t help but take pity on it, and figured the least he could do was give it something to eat – still, even when he approached with the dark meat, the nervous animal was cautious in the face of the tall man, so by the time he looked up to notice that he was being watched, Will had already spent several minutes attempting to communicate with the feline.

   “…Hey. This isn’t your cat, is it?”

“This little fur ball?”

Charlie slowly shifted her fingers closer towards the cat that was hanging around, a slight grin on her face. Yet as her fingers approached, the cat seemed to freeze up, barely making a noise. Pleased with this, Charlie simply began to scratching the cat’s ears before drawing her hand back.

“It’s not, though it is rather, isn’t it? Why? Are you looking for the owner, dearie?”

   “Why would a shield not protect meow? That doesn’t make any sen-” The realization hits her sooner than anyone would expect. “Meoh…” She hated to agree with her, but Charlie was making a good point… But Tao’s stubborn will didn’t want to agree with her so easily. She still held a firm belief that people didn’t need to actually DIE for a goal to be achieved. “Wait! What if the shield hurt the person back, meow?” Where was she going with this?

   “It didn’t protect, but it hurt! Hurt the person enyough to give the person with the shield a chance, meow!! What if…” This was getting frustrating for the poor cat, not to mention hurting her brain. Still, she way trying. “What Tao means is, What if I beat the crap out of them enough that the bad guy would have a hard time even trying to hurt my friends, meow? If Tao could slow ‘em down or stop ‘em or…” She leaves her words to hang in the air, unsure how to press further. “…Tao wouldn’t kill anyone, meow.”

“Ah, such standards. How rare it is to find someone so willing to maintain some degree of civility, no matter what might happen. Even when faced against the storm with nothing but a pot to protect yourself, you say you’ll hold yourself resolute and stand firm.” Charlie giggled a bit before returning her gaze towards Tao.

“Oh my apologies. It seems I have gone all philosophical on all this. I mean after all it’s just a simple thing to say, yes? You say you wouldn’t want to kill someone and thus you make sure you don’t kill anyone. What’s so hard about not killing anyone, after all? You just have to stop... but would you be able to stop? Given the chance, given the right push... would you be able to stop yourself?”

          Thrown into a new world? Dimensions and rifts, bringing people to a singular point in space? Troublesome, but for one man, it didn’t matter much. Not really. Not when there’s only one thing on his mind. True, he does think of the companions left behind, but his party should be capable without him. He taught them everything he could, after all. For now, he must look after himself. “Hey, you.”            He calls out to the nearest person, approaching them with his usual, stiff and stoic demeanor, his expression nigh unreadable thanks to his equally expressionless helmet. A cold, blank stare behind the bars of his visor, he then asks. “The town guild. Where is it? Do you know? Blacksmiths and item shops, where? And… one more thing,” His helmet raised, hate and scorn coming next before he even formed that dreadful word. But he needed to know, and so, he asked this bystander a question that burned within him ever since he got here. “…ARE THERE GOBLINS IN THIS PLACE?“

Now wasn’t this a surprise. Someone so bold to approach Charlie, and approach her in such an uncouth manner? It was enough to elicit a slight chuckle from the shadowy woman.

“Oh? Are you speaking to me, dearie?”

Charlie sized up the stranger, noting how well armored he was. Though this man clearly was no knight in shining armor riding atop a white stallion, but instead more a rough and stumble fighter in what seemed to be quite a bit of beaten up protection. And yet Charlie felt intrigued. Intrigued at such a mysterious stranger.

“Ah, your questions. Well, I fear I have no answers to any of those. Especially of things like goblins. Though perhaps there are and I have simply yet to come across any, dearie. Say... what’s your name, by the way? Such a heavily protected man like yourself must have a name, yes?”
