A Newar girl dressed for the ihi ceremony wears jewelry rich in symbolism. Gold represents the sun god, and silver the moon god.

Her gold hair ornament features peacocks, while the five chained pendants end in moon shapes holding lotus flowers. The silver braid piece includes a fertility fish, bells symbolizing compassion and wisdom, and lotus and pipal leaf pendants.
