To think someone as stoic and serious as Noel Noa could have such a whimsical and hyper wife. Behind closed curtains, Noel Noa was a much more romantic and soft man than anyone could think. He always kept a straight face, always, but his actions spoke a lot louder than his words. Since he grew up in the slums of France, he dedicated his life to soccer. Of course, as a teenager though, he did find himself attending parties with his classmates and all sorts of other things.
You and him went to the same schools since pre-k, knowing each other but barely talking. He was always so cold and serious meanwhile you had so much personality. You dressed in a twee type of style, always had a smile on your face, were friends with everyone. He couldnt deny that his heart would beat a little faster when you were close to him. You were kind, pretty, really funny even though he would catch you being serious on some days too. First day of high school you found him talking to you a lot more, leading up to the one house party when you two were seventeen.
You finally built up the courage to tell the boy you liked that you liked him, which wasnt Noel, unfortunately. You dressed the cutest you could, in a white flowy tanktop dress overtop a pair of jeans with some sandals. You did a little more makeup than usual, adding some blush when you would usually just wear some mascara, you got your nails done in little strawberries. It was a perfectly planned night. Said plan was that you would tell him that you liked him while dancing with him.

No one ever saw me cry,
Music blasted in your ears while trying to navigate through the house. You never liked house parties, never really went to any unless they were important to you since they were always too crowded. Everyone would be dancing on each other, rubbing their bodies against each other with people they have never even met before, you thought it was just gross. However, the boy youve liked for a whole year now was hosting one, so you wouldnt let this chance to tell him how you feel slip through your fingers. You finally found him, holding a red cup probably full of beer, dancing in the middle of the living room area with people all around him. Your eyes lit up, smiling at him immediately. “Hey- Adrien!” you called out to him. He looked your way, an unreadable expression on his face. You ran up to him, “Nice party!” you said. Your hands by your sides gripped your dress, hoping you looked okay. Did you smell fine? what if there was something on your face? wait- did you check to make sure that your dress wasnt see through since its white? shoot. Your worries washed away pretty fast, however. “Hey ____! glad to see you could make it! i know that your not such a fan of stuff like this but thanks for coming!” He said, a smile in his face. He remembered such a small detail about you? your heart panged and you felt yourself get a little hotter. You moved your body to match him and the music, everything falling into place. “Yeah! w-well i wouldnt miss a party being thrown by such a good friend of mine, right?!” you yelled to him over the music. Calling him a friend rolled off your tongue with a toxic taste, but it didnt feel so unfitting. He smiled down at you, oh, how you loved your difference in height. “Here! wanna drink?” he asked you, pushing his drink to your hands. Its smell was strong, too strong, with the way that you grew up you could tell that it was alcohol. “N-no thanks! sorry!” you pushed back into his hands with a sheepish smile, coming up with an excuse. To not drink at a house party at seventeen would be a crime, only losers cant take a sip of alcohol. “The taste always makes me feel nauseous- so i cant really drink too much!” you said. He raised an eyebrow at your statement, feeling curious. “Seriously? thats lame.” strike one. “Well, i didnt think that you would drink at all considering your… interesting style.” strike two. “You dress up sort of like a kid, its kinda weird to be honest.” strike three. “I dont even think i can see you having a boyfriend in the near future.” strike four. Your movements slowed a bit, already feeling your nose tingle and your eyes start to get full of water. “…what?… but, ive liked you for a whole year now, how could you say that?” you scrunched your face and dug you nails into your palms to stop the waterfall of emotion that you were feeling inside. He looked down at you, and laughed. “like me? youre not the only one. I really hope you werent thinking you had a chance, right? tsk, youre such a weirdo!” he said, sipping his drink and laughed down on you a bit more. You only stood there trying not to cry. His friends seemed to call his name, since he pushed his way past you. He bumped into your shoulder, as you heard the people around laughing and muttering things about you. Humiliation was the only thing you felt in that moment.
Until i left the party the other night,
Noel was sat outside the house party on the grass front lawn, instead of being inside. He never liked parties and the view outside was a lot nicer. All he wanted was to go off and play soccer right now, or at least see you. For whatever reason, even though you never really looked his way, Noel found himself thinking about you a lot more than usual. He knew that he liked you, sort of. He noticed how his heart would beat a little faster when you were next to him, how be found himself listening in on the conversations you would have with your friends to learn more about you without really talking to you. He still had his whole life dedicated to soccer of course, but you were dedicated to all sorts of sports too. You were good at everything. And you had a unique style of your own that nobody really had that he ever saw. He liked that you were different, that you stood out. Suddenly, he heard the door slam open. He immediately whipped his head back, only to see you. He wanted to smile for a moment, until he heard you sniffle. Tears were pouring down your face as you tried to compose yourself. You shouldnt be crying all because of some boy, what a waste of time! you crumbled down onto the stairs of the porch and sat with your head in your knees, trying to deny how you felt. Noel felt bad for you, he felt bad for anyone he saw that had tears. He understood how terrible one must feel to have to cry. So, he stood up from his seat on the ground and sat down next to you on the stairs. You looked up from your knees and saw him stare back at you with his amber eyes, “Noel…?” you asked, right before you hid your face again. How embarrassing. “Are you alright?” he asked you with a voice laced with sincerity. You never heard the boy have such emotion behind his voice, you were surprised. “Im fine.” you muttered. You wanted to force yourself to be okay, even though the things he said did hurt you quite a bit. “No youre not.”
Do you remember all the things that you said to me?
You huffed at Noels words. It was obvious that you werent so well, but you didnt like it when others saw you cry. But you also knew that Noel was good at keeping things to himself, and you needed to get the weight off your shoulders. “This stupid boy. Adrien. I told him… that i liked him, ever since last year and he just… i wouldnt even be mad like this if he just rejected me! seriously! what type of stick is up his ass?! he said all these rud things about me- i dont ever see you having a boyfriend! youre so weird! you dress like a kid! just grow a pair and at least let me keep some of my confidence right?!” your frustration grew with the volume of your voice as you ranted on. You always found yourself telling Noel your problems when you needed to, he was a good friend of yours, what else can you say really? “That was quite rude of him.” he said in response. “I know!”
That came out of his mouth automatically,
It was silent for a bit, only the muffled sounds of the music from the house supporting the tension in the air. You sighed, “And then everyone else started laughing at me, like they all agreed with him. Every person i thought was my friend just… wasnt anymore.” it left you to feel isolated all of sudden. You were never fond of the feeling of being lonely, you dreaded it. Thats why you were friends with everyone. You took any chance you could to switch your personality to fit the person you were talking to, since you were too afraid to be alone. It was a scary thought, one that made you shiver. “Im still your friend.” Noel said. And he was right. Hes been your friend since you were kids, barely talking but everytime you did speak to each other it would go on for hours, spilling every little secret you had.
But im so used to saying “im fine!”,
You smiled and leaned your head forwatd into your knees to hide how those few words of his made you feel. He looked over to you when you did, a curtain of your hair covering your face. Your hair was nice. Reminiscing his words for a moment, you remembered that time. The first time you two got into an argument that lasted more than a few minutes.
And then something that you did to hurt me worse, it comes to me,
“Even after that time you kicked a soccer ball at my face?” you mentioned. It was in middle school, eighth grade, when you were playing soccer with him during recess when he kicked the ball when you were playing defense in the other team. It flew right to your face, too fast for you to react to it. Since it was also the time of winter, you had soccer ball markings on your face for a whole week because of him. He almost smiled at the memory. “Yeah.” he said. You did smile at it, almost laughed even. It was such a long time ago and you were so mad at him when it happened. He avoided you in fear of what you were going to do after it happened, until you happened to kick a ball right into his face two weeks after to make it even.
Despite, those times,
“And that time you snitched on me to my parents that i used to go way out of town for soccer tournaments without their permission?” you said. You were young at the time, only twelve, when you used to sneak away from home and tell your parents that you to do tutoring in school and stay extra hours when you were really going to compete. The only reason Noel caught you doing this was because he was doing it too. “That was dangerous, to go all alone at a young age.” he countered. He worried for you when he saw you did that. You were a young girl doing such independent things, anything could have gone wrong. He didnt want to take any chances. You frowned. “It wasnt dangerous! if something would have happened to me, i could have handled myself just fine.” you crossed your arms and looked away from him. It was frustrating, also because you knew he was probably right. But it was even more frustrating because he knew that he was right so it added to his ego. “You wouldnt have had anyone to help you if something did happen.” he added. You felt like Noel just wanted to add more to the annoyance you felt with him and his smart mouth. Seriously, you couldnt wait for the day that you would slap his mouth shut one and for all, maybe with your own instead of your hand. He turned to you and froze when you stared right back at him, with a smile. “You were there, right?”
One day i just wanna hear you say,
“I like you.”
“…Whats stoppin’ you?”

Barely anything changed between you and Noels daily life after that. At least, thats what everyone else thought. You two never tallked in school unless necessary, never walked home together, never even stood next to each other. But that was all around other people. You never talked in school because you two were both focused in your own studies, never walked home together because you always stopped at that cafe after school, and never even stood next to each other because you knew that the second you two had some private time you would be a lot closer than just standing close.
At the very start, it was slightly awkward. Slightly. In terms of romance, neither of you had any experience. You watched plenty of romcoms, sure. But Noel didnt know anything about holding another persons hand. It was one hell of a learning experience with him, but soon enough, you found him on one knee in front of with a ring and a tomato red and sweaty face. You two were twenty two when he did it, five whole years after you both agreed to be in a relationship. Those five years of you supporting him in his career as you watched him turn into a soccer star, those five years of embarrassing yet loving moments between you two, those five years that included maybe one or two arguments only, those five years of learning things together. Five years, all leading up to this moment.

Beside your boyfriend, food was your everything. You sighed, sitting on the bench beside Noel. He took you out to such a fancy dinner for some reason. He dressed you up like his own little doll into a tight fitting and simple black dress with some red bottom louboutin heels that he never asnwered when you asked him how he got them for you. You did your makeup, your hair, you smelled amazing. Noel did too, dressed in a nice black button up with a nice watch around his wrist and matching shoes with you. He just got a new haircut a few days ago, making him look even more clean and fresh than he was. The dinner was phenomenal, maybe the best tasting food youve ever had besides your mothers. You stomach grew maybe three times than the usual too, but you didnt care. You got to sit down in subways because you would rub your stomach and act like youre pregnant when your feet were only hurting from your heels. Noel laughed at your stupid antics. “This was a nice dinner, Noel.” you said. Your eyes looked out to the sunset, grateful that it was summertime so that the sun stayed out a little longer. You looked over to him and met his natural nonchalant look. Though, you could see it in his eyes, how much bigger they became when they looked into yours. “I… want to show you something.” he said. He held in a breath after he said it, immediately tensing up. He stood up off the bench quite fast, you noticed. But, you stayed silent, stood and let him take your hand into his. He walked you to the little platform that stood infront of the bench your rested upon and looked out to the sunset. It was beautiful, really. It reminded you of the color of Noels eyes. You took a big breath in and closed your eyes, letting the wind blow through your hair. And when you turned back to your boyfriend, you found him on his knees and reaching into his pocket. Your furrowed your brows in anticipation and watched him pull out a small velvet box in your favorite color. Your breath caught in your throat. Youve seen all sorts of romcoms, and knowing what was next was just common sense. You frowned and your eyesbrows furrowed intensely, trying not to cry. Your hands caught your dress and crumpled them into your fists, really trying not to break down crying and hug him. Noel opened the box to reveal a ring decorated with your birthstone in the jewelry color you preferred. “(name)… you have been- uhm- the most important thing in my life… slowly, i started appreciating you more than soccer, even though it was the only thing i ever really loved for a very long time, so… uh- will you… marry me?”

And now, after all of that time, you find yourself with a man that almost never smiles, with a matching wedding ring with you and his face deep in your lap, wanting to melt into you as you run your fingers through his head and your kids deep asleep in the other room.
