Got my copy of Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More by Janet Mock on my phone so I can read some of it all the time. I just started it. Exquisite already. Um…she can really really write. Like…it flows beautifully like well-written fiction yet has the urgency and passion of real life as it is a real life.

I LOVE how she parallels her chapters and thoughts with Black women’s literature as the frame, something Melissa Harris-Perry did with Sister Citizen: Shame, Stereotypes, and Black Women in America. They recently discussed this on The MHP Show actually. (Also check out her conversation series videos where she discusses her process for this book.)

I wanna speed read it because it’s so brilliant but I also want to read it slow because it’s so important. Some things I immediately related to as a Black woman, but others of course I cannot and can only quietly listen, learn and take it in since I am a cis Black woman.

Anyway, get your copy! If you are a Black trans woman/trans woman of colour and can’t afford a copy, let me know. I don’t have much $ either but I can buy 1 copy each for 2 people.
