A/N: Another yume fic I wrote for, you guessed it, @nohr-and-thirst ! This time for their pookie Aventurine 🥰
I really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really hope you read this one, Nohr. Please, I’m begging you ;-;
The city slept beneath the moonlight—but the Bunny Casino burned and roared with excitement.
Pink lights shined across marbled floors, refracting through crystalline chandeliers and mirrored pillars until everything glimmered as though the world slumbered in a dream. Laughter, chips clacking, cards snapping—it all blended into a chaotic rhythm which drowned all sense of reason—a hymn of indulgence which numbed failed wagers and lost bets.
The latter of which included yours, unfortunately. Tonight, the famed Casino owner Nohr Deuce Diamond Trappola has suffered their first loss since the day you opened for business.
“You’re quiet,” Aventurine’s voice slipped smoothly between the cracks of confusion, as if he’d never left. “That’s oddly unlike you.”
You didn’t dare look at him. You were too busy staring at the empty space where your last pile of chips used to be.
“I’m calculating my mistakes,” you muttered.
“Ah,” he sounded with delight. “Then we may be here a while.”
Aventurine only flashed you a devilish grin, leaning back in his chair like someone who owned not just the table, but the building, the night, and quite possibly your fate. A pair of dice danced across his knuckles effortlessly.
“Remind me,” he said, tilting his head. “What were the terms again?”
You knew he remembered. That was the worst part.
“If I lost,” you muttered, trying not to let your words stutter, “I’d do any one thing you asked. Within reason.”
“Within reason,” he echoed, savoring the words with satisfaction. “Which you agreed to.”
He set the dice down with a soft click, then rose to his feet. Chatter from around the table dimmed as nearly everyone’s attention had shifted. It always did when Aventurine moved.
“In that case,” he started, extending a hand toward you, “shall we begin?”
You gawked at his hand like it was a trap.
His smile turned sharp, playful, and dangerous.
“Oh, nothing much.” His gaze flicked toward a nearby Craps table, already gathering a new crowd. “For tonight and tonight only, you’re going to be my good luck charm.”
Your words were hushed by his finger pressed to your lip. “You… are going to be my dice girl.”
“Dice girl.” He gestured with his hand as though it were obvious. “A symbol of fortune. A good omen. Someone who stands beside the player, keeps the energy high…” His eyes gleamed. “And, most importantly, draws everyone’s attention.”
Heat crept up your neck. “Absolutely not.”
“Ah, but you lost.” He leaned closer, voice dropping just enough that it brushed your ear. “And a bet’s a bet.”
You clenched the helm of your dress.
Aventurine, sensing your apprehension, sat back down a shrugged. “Of course, that is unless the great owner of the Bunny Casino is the type to go back in their word.” He winked at you playfully, sending flutters through your body.
Around you, the table buzzed with anticipation, with hushed whispers amongst mocking sneers and bated breaths. Of course gambler had to turn this into a spectacle.
“You’re enjoying this way too much,” you uttered.
“And yet, not unreasonable,” he pointed out, clasping his hands together and resting his elbows on his knees, “I haven’t asked anything cruel. Just… entertaining.”
“Think of it this way,” he added, softer now. “By staying at my side, I’ll make sure you don’t lose anything else tonight.”
“And as a bonus,” he eyed you with dubious intent, “you might even get me all to yourself.”
You felt your heart get caught in your throat. “…Might?”
“I am a gambler. Are you willing to bet on me?”
You pondered his question for a moment. This was a terrible idea. You were sure you’re going to regret this. But despite your better judgement, Aventurine was right—betting on him was often the best choice with any game.
Regardless, you’ve always kept your word.
“…Fine,” you agreed at last.
Aventurine’s smile brightened. His pleased expression was evident and perhaps betrayed his composure for a split second.
“Looks like I’ve hit the jackpot.”
The Craps table was uproarious.
Players crowded around, their chips stacked high, voices loud with excitement, and eyes glittering with anticipation. The dealer nodded as Aventurine approached, his reputation preceding him, as was yours.
You sat in his lap, acutely aware of every glance—the tension so thick you could slice into it.
“Relax,” Aventurine murmured, low enough that only you could hear. “You look like you’re about to explode.”
You crossed your arms with a pout. “I’d prefer that, actually.”
He chuckled, wrapping his free arm around your waist, pulling your hips close to his body.
“Here, follow my lead,” he whispered, guiding you lightly by the wrist. “Smile, if you can manage it, and when it’s my turn to roll…” he briefly placed the dice in your hand, his fingers brushing with yours, “…you blow on them.”
Your heart drummed against your chest.
“This is ridiculous,” you whispered.
“Perhaps,” he said. “But luck is a performance. And tonight,” his gaze lingered on you, those beautiful Sygonian irises meeting yours, “you’re part of mine.”
Aventurine extended his hand.
You hesitated—just for a second—then you blew on his dice before handing them over to him.
His fingers closed around them, slow and deliberate. He then leaned in, lips ghosting over your ear.
“See? Nothing to it, love.”
The dice tumbled across the felt, rolling and bouncing before coming to a definite stop.
Then the table erupted into a cacophony of cheers, groans, and the sound of chips shifting hands.
Aventurine, however, gave a slight chuckle of victory. He didn’t even look at the dice.
“Seems my instincts were right,” he said softly.
“You were just lucky,” you shot back.
He simply tilted his head. “Hm. Let’s test that.”
Again, the dice passed from your hand to his.
Again, the table rumbled with chaos.
Highball in his right hand, dice in his left.
And the wins kept stacking.
As the game stretched on and wagers grew more desperate, you found yourself playing alongside Aventurine in rhythm, blowing on the dice in his hand as you pushed more chips in.
You were still nervous—still wary of every wager—but every win brought with it a strange thrill. A shared secret in the way your fingers brushed his each time, and assurance granted by those little yet frequent glances you shared with him.
“Careful, now,” he murmured after another win. “You look like you’re enjoying yourself.”
You held Aventurine's gaze, previously playful and teasing, now holding a more earnest warmth to them. You could feel his breathing on your neck, causing your heart to skip and giving you goosebumps.
“…Maybe I am enjoying this a little,” you admitted. “Just a little.”
He laughed—genuine this time.
“Good! Because I’m not done with you yet,” he said almost possessively.
You raised an eyebrow, a smirk escaping your lips. “Is that a threat?”
The dice clicked softly in his left hand as his right snaked around your back and over your thigh.
“Stay close. Tonight, your fortune favours me.”
You huffed, but didn’t move away.
And when he reached for the dice again, you were ready to bless them with your luck.
The game stretched on, as did the night.
After countless bets, laughter, and an impossible streak of wins…
The casino was finally quiet.
Aventurine sprawled across the resting room couch like a satisfied cat, with both of your legs resting lazily over his thighs. You sat casually across from him, pretending the position wasn’t deliberate.
Aventurine removed his hat and fanned himself with it. “You survived the night, Mx. Trappola. I’m impressed.”
You scoffed. “I survived worse.”
“Is that right?” His voice dipped, teasing but lower now. “But will you survive this?”
He shifted closer, legs sliding beneath yours. Nothing obscene, just closer. Close enough that you could feel his warmth again, only this time more intimate and without prying eyes.
“Don’t start,” you warned, although a smile and blush still crept over your poker face.
“Didn’t start nothing,” Aventurine mused as he traced a finger up the line of your body, pausing at your shoulder. He leans in, hair brushing your cheek. “I just exist.”
The casino hummed softly around the both of you. The peppy jingles from the slots. Flickers from the lights above. No more pointless chatter or wasted chips.
Your hand slid up Aventurine’s back, taking in the luxurious texture of his coat before stopping at the base of his neck.
“Were you serious earlier?” you asked.
Aventurine didn’t deflect this time.
He held your gaze and allowed the silence to simmer without cutting words or teasing remarks.
“I was,” he said quietly.
The tension eased in your shoulders, and you felt his grip did too.
He smiled, softer than usual. “A bet is a bet, and I never go back on my word.”
“But,” Aventurine continued, leaning closer until his nose nearly brushed with yours, “the privilege is yours and yours alone.”
This time, both of your hands held him close.
Heat lingered between you the two of you.
Aventurine shifted again, this time closer, as your arms wrapped around his neck.
“You’re trouble,” you muttered.
“And you love it,” he teased.
You didn’t bite back. Instead, you leaned forward and kissed him.
Aventurine was briefly stunned by your boldness, only to melt into it like he’d been waiting all night. His hands slid up your back and into your hair, tugging gently.
It wasn’t desperate, nor was it a performance.
It was tender, slow, warm, and real.
When you both broke apart, Aventurine breathed heavily. For once, he was at a loss of words.
Your thumbs traced back and forth along his cheekbones. “Looks the gambler lost his first bet tonight,” you teased affectionately.
Aventurine chuckled heartily. “My, you’ve waited until now to play your hand? Seems like this bunny still has bite to them.”
You titled your head thoughtfully. “Do you regret it?”
He shook his head slowly. “No. Never.”
You studied his face, searching for any hint of insincerity to his words.
Finding nothing of the sorts, you allowed yourself to relax into his chest.
It was a curious thing. Love.
Attachment without strings.
On the table, the dice plays no favourites. For the gambler, there is no reward without risk.
Perhaps love was the same way.
You stretched your arms out and yawned dramatically. “Carry me to bed, if you will.”
The gambler rolled his eyes but stood anyway, scooping you up with practiced ease. You giggled, kicking your legs as your arms looped around his neck.
“The night’s still young,” you murmured into his ear.
A mischievous glint reflected in Aventurine’s eyes as he headed up the stairs. “Then how about we make another bet?”
Aventurine's gaze glowed more carnal as they stood before your private room. He leaned in close, lips ghosting over your own.
“Would you bet on ‘duration’ or ‘frustration’?.”
Your face flushed red as you considered the bet and your wager. But you knew you wouldn’t back down.
The building lights flickered off as the two gamblers vanished behind closed doors.
Inside, the casino burned.
