I was Uncle Death at Anime Detour this year! I haven't really dealt with face prosthetics before, so it was a lot of fun teaching myself to do something new with cosplay! I'll hopefully have more pics soon! Next year, I'm hoping to challenge myself even further and take on my favorite Overwatch girl, Zarya! Time for this girl to get in shape to do the Russian proud!
Just a preview of my cosplay for Anime Detour this year! This isnt done (by any means), as I still need to switch out the latches on the coat for yellow ones and I intend on wearing a face appliance for the skull, but I am dead set on continuing my trend of cosplaying more obscure characters.
This time, I am going to go as Uncle Death from the free-to-play PS4 game Let It Die! Please look forward to it!
While I’ve been going to Anime Detour for nine years now (and I’ll definitely be back next year for ten!), lately my family and I have been talking about trying to expand to a convention that perhaps focuses a little more on video games. We all still like anime, but deep down, we’ve all been bigger gaming nerds from the start (which, really, should be obvious from my choice of cosplays).
So, my question, to all of you, is if anyone knows of any fun conventions (preferably with a bigger focus on gaming) that aren’t too terribly far away from the Iowa area?
These are from last year, but I just recently came across these killer shots of my Parasoul cosplay on flickr (because I’m awful at checking that site, oops)! Even if I’ve retired this cosplay now (because three years in a row is plenty), I still hold a special place for this costume in my heart.

Our group wasn’t so sure if we were going to run into any other Hotline Miami cosplayer, throughout the weekend, but it was a pleasant surprise to run into not only a lone Biker, but a wonderful pair of Biker and Jacket as well! You guys were radical!

Here’s some pics we took of our Alex and Ash cosplay, from just dinking around in our con hotel for Anime Detour! I still have some more pics coming (one set with an awesome Biker and Jacket we found and we’ll have a couple photoshoot pics way later on), but this has been an absolute blast to cosplay as and it pleases me that more people recognized us than I anticipated!

Since I’ve got most of the work done needed for me and @dracojawn ‘s Alex and Ash cosplay, I’ve been itching to work on another cosplay for us both, since the con we go to is still so far away!
I’m not 100% certain if I can pull off the cosplay I have in mind, but I’m looking to expand my skillset and this character seems like it’d be a lot of fun! Here’s a sneak peek of the first things I’m buying to see if I can make it work.

It took me long enough, but here’s my test selfies for my Alex cosplay! I messed up the wig really badly, but I can easily order another long before the con I plan to wear it to (it’s not until April next year). My sister is still working on the swan masks for my brother and I, so I don’t have mine just yet.
My brother lives a pretty far distance from me now, so it’ll be a while before I can get pics with him. But, all in all, I’m pretty pleased with how this cosplay is coming along! I think I might actually get professional pics of this one, at some point.
Yes, these pics are obnoxious as fuck, but my headcanon is that Alex would 100% be the kind of person to take obnoxious selfies and annoy everyone with them. It was fun!
I got the football shoulders done for me and my brother’s upcoming Alex and Ash cosplay! The decals were hard to put on, as the shoulders are curved and an uneven surface, but they thankfully look pretty good in pictures regardless!
I took some inspiration from that comic cover, but I also wanted to make sure I kept it faithful from what I could discern of their costumes in game (Alex seemingly has all green padding + orange backpack while Ash has orange shoulders in his padding?).
My little bro lives three and a half hours away, so it’ll be a while before he can try his costume on, but I’m going to try to take some unmasked Alex test selfies soon (masks are being worked on) in the next couple of weeks, so look forward to that!
It begins, the process of repainting the shoulder pads for my Alex and Ash (Hotline Miami) cosplay with my little brother! Anime Detour isn’t for about... another 11 months, but dammit I’m going to be way ahead of schedule this time (for once). I’m going to add more layers of paint (and some clear coats) and I need to paint his shoulders orange AND I’ve ordered numbered decals to put on the shoulders, but I’m really excited to see how these turn out!
Otherwise, laugh at how weird this shopping list is for all the stuff I need for this cosplay. I THOUGHT THIS WAS GOING TO BE EASY, nope! I already have the duck masks ordered too, but my sister is in the process of painting them to look like swans.
I’ll post more pictures of my Alex (possibly unmasked, with a wig) once I get all of my stuff together, so look forward to that!

My little bro and I had a lot of fun at Anime Detour this year! I was so happy that even more people recognized my Parasoul cosplay as that means that Skullgirls is getting even more popular!
This was the two of us (this picture is courtesy of dioyazawa), so we’d love to see any other pictures that anyone else took of either of us, and I’ll work to get all the pictures the two of us took up soon.
