Going To Pound You Into Creams If You Evor Say Some Thing So Stupid Again
honestly, one of the best things about samurai jack is that subdued 30% of the show that consists of jack seeing the weirdest shit ever and just giving this tight, polite, yet vaguely pained look, like
i guess this is my life now
Save him
Honestly that IS the best part of Samurai Jack. Not necessarily the facial expressions themselves, but HOW they’re used in the animation. The show is so minimalistic. Not in it’s art, but in how they tell a the story. Like…
Not a single word is spoken nor a single thought heard in this entire scene, but you know exactly what’s happening. It does EVERYTHING with the facial expressions, the body language, the movements. They’re able to convey that the archers are blind without any dialog, internal monolog, nothing. Just facial expressions and actions. Anyone who’s seen the show will recognize this next scene, and we all know how it starts. Jack is initially rude, and hostile. They start off as not so friendly people with a mutual goal and…
This entire scene… not a single word is spoken until they reach their goal. They’re able to communicate a growth in trust, joy, anger, sadness, shock, confusion, even romantic interest without ever uttering a peep. The show tells these crazy stories with such few words.
It spreads to every part of the shows design.
Throughout this entire fight sequence neither of them make a single sound. No words, no grunts, nothing. Yet, despite that, you know almost exactly what they’re thinking, how they’re feeling, what their next action is going to be. They’re able to tell you these stories without ever telling you them. That’s a feature of the show I hope they don’t abandon with the reboot. That minimalistic story telling is what made the show intriguing. It tells the story visually. With most shows if you don’t even have picture you can have a decent understanding of what’s going on just from the audio. With this show? You won’t have a clue what’s going on. That’s what makes his facial expressions so amazing. They’re what’s telling the story.
