Since this is a side-blog I’m not even going to bother archiving it. Instead I’m going to salvage what I can and then just delete it.

“Because I don’t want you to be concerned, Selene, I’m sure this is nothing.” It really just felt like he had a pretty bad cold, but his stomach was all funky too. He hadn’t thrown up just yet, but he did worry that was coming soon too. “You probably have better things to do than to care for me.”

How long ago had it been since she wasn’t like this? No immediate worries about enemies or unwanted suitors or dealing with annoying and fretting socialites nipping at one anothers necks and whispering as she passed. It was just the two of them now. A vampire who had traded one life for another and then traded that one yet again when she met Michael. Her good-hearted if not willfully stubborn human lover.

“Are you sure you’ll be fine to work tomorrow?”

Michael nodded, despite knowing that he was still pretty sick. He would have to go back into work. He wouldn’t be draining on Selene any longer than he would have to be. He had to be ready to work even if he wasn’t sure he was completely healthy. He’d probably try to stick with desk work for some time. “I’ll be fine, I won’t do anything too crazy, I promise.”

She wanted to ask what crazy thing could possibly happen in a hospital but a few of his stories with close-call patients ran through her head and she didn’t say a word. Quite possibly he would stay in one place for a few hours before growing bored and heading off to find something much more engaging, she knew him well enough by now.

“Always apologizing.” She shook her head at him but with a better mood this time and a lighter tone of voice than before. He would apologize for an explosion that she caused if they were in that situation. “Apologize to me later when you’re feeling better.”

He could take that how he wanted.

Michael breathed out a soft sigh and nodded when she said to apologize when he was feeling better. He reached and squeezed her hand for a moment. He knew she wasn’t the biggest fan of being touched or anything like romantic things, but he just wanted to show her how much he appreciated it while not pushing her too hard.

“Shut up. We both know you don’t want to be alone.” Selene chided him softly. If his feverish body heat became too much she could just lay on top of the covers. She could slip away later when the sun set.

Michael knew she was right. He didn’t want, nor did he like the idea of being alone right then. He had some issues with being left alone, especially when he was sick. He just didn’t want Selene to feel like she was obligated to stay with him though. “Sorry,” He gave her an amused smile.

She let him press his head against her hand like a child does when wanting affection. No she was not a doctor like him and her bedside manner was less than perfect. Still he always tried with her and she could make attempts for him as well. She owed him that.

“I’ll stay with you.”

It wasn’t even Michael’s need for affection that him pressing his face against her hand. It was because his skin felt like it was burning and he just needed some form of relief. Her icy vampire skin did wonders for that sort of thing. He smiled to himself. “You know you don’t have to do that if you don’t want to, Selene.”

“Only a tad.” She responded with a teasing tone creeping in her voice. She brushed a strand of hair from his forehead and took his temperature yet again. Still the same but he wasn’t as clammy as before.

Michael leaned into her hand on his skin. He was still feverish and the feeling of her cool skin on his heated skin felt phenomenal. “Fair enough. I’ll try to get a little more rest tonight, okay Selene?” He wanted to try and avoid getting bed rest but he also knew that he needed it.
