Apr 6, 2026 — Hey there, it's me, your neighbourhood crocheter again :D I've crocheted this mini Earth a few days ago, just on premiere day

it’s worth nothing that the pattern also uses yellow yarn. i didn’t have any yellow or beige yarn in the right weight, so we just work with what we’ve got!

as another note, i used loops and threads impeccable yarn (which is technically a weight 4) and a 4mm hook and was quite happy with the size :)

project hail mary is insane bc the first half is like oh my god the world is dying and there's alien bacteria eating the sun and there's some guy alone on a ship and he's having a breakdown and the flashbacks are getting darker and this is a tragedy the likes of which i have never seen. then BAM andy weir says fuck you actually. here's this pokemon guy he's here to save the day with the power of friendship. and it's the best thing you've ever seen in your life

ok so i read the book before seeing the movie knowing NOTHING about it besides “i’ve heard it’s good”, “i liked the martian”, a personal recommendation from someone who knows my media tastes extremely well, and the description on the back of the book as pictured:

so you can imagine my surprise when roughly a quarter of the way through the book another spaceship just pulls up.

it was honestly kind of jarring. without spoilers, if you go in with quite literally only the description on the back, there’s very little up to that point that suggests intelligent alien life is going to be a major concept that shapes the rest of the book. it basically reads as an absurd plot twist.

i actually had to put it down for a few minutes thinking “THATS where this is going???” because i was fully prepared for a story similar to the martian and was honestly a little skeptical.

but i went back to it with an open mind, and let me just tell you, one chapter with rocky and i decided i would die for that alien actually, and that this was a phenomenal writing choice.

it took me less than a day to finish the rest of the book.
