this is a sideblog for ramblings, edits, and meta. there is a particular focus on mass effect, but dragon age as well as non-bioware games will make an appearance now and again

if you're going to follow me, please be aware of the following:

in general, i find fandom extremely tiring on multiple levels, and i prefer to pretend it doesn't exist. i have learned through experience that engaging with other people in fandom is rarely worth it, and i am no longer interested in interactions a majority of the time. i just want to make a space for myself now

i especially dislike male character fandoms, including ones for male characters i like

on a similar note, i am mainly apathetic with a varying side of negative toward the following male characters: cullen, alistair, sebastian, varric, joker, garrus

if one or more of those are blorbos, well... i would reconsider following

all of that said, i prefer not focusing on negatives too much; i bring this up only because i like analyzing things a lot. a lot of these analyses are meant to be (neutral voice) in tone, but i have said and will continue to say things about those characters that fans of them may construe as disparaging and/or hateful

if a post has anything i think fans may consider critical or hateful, i will warn it in the main post and then tag it with the character name at later date so that there's time for it to be buried by newer posts in the main tag. this will hopefully prevent most fans from seeing it

tl;dr: this is a blog meant for me to feel comfortable sharing my thoughts and analyses without consideration for how others may feel about it. everything will be tagged appropriately; if something isn't appropriately tagged, let me know, and i will correct it

i don't much care for paragon shepard, but i still play them occasionally - mostly when i'm doing mshep runs

i have a long term interest in mbti/enneagram theories (not the personality test) and i often incorporate these into my character analyses. if mbti/ennea make you uncomfortable, i would also reconsider following

there may also be some oc talk here and there. reblogs will either relate to my ocs or be resources i think are neat

I just discovered your previous sideblog as well as this one and I am obsessed with your analysis of Mass Effect! Super thoughtful and researched. Can’t tell you how much I love it and can’t wait to (respectfully) stalk your posts 🙈

what a lovely message to receive, thank you so much. there were loads of metas i always wanted to write but never got around to, or never finished. pretty sure when i abandoned octerminal there were, like, 10+ unfinished meta pieces in my drafts, lol. one day i'll get to them, i just don't have the time nor energy to play the games as often as i used to, sadly

so for me, i was/am the type of player that didn't like replaying the same shepard over and over and over, i wanted to find any and all new variances i could, this is the type of stuff that informed my analyses back then (alongside being a primarily renegade player). mostly, i sourced things the way i did because it helped me stay on topic, otherwise i would meander and ramble a lot much like i am doing now lol. i recall i actually offended someone once - they assumed i was sourcing things because i thought they were an idiot who didn't remember the games - this was actually one of my "final straws" that made me disengage from fandom, tbh, so again your message is truly lovely to receive.

Are your ME1 transcripts available anywhere? I'd really love to read through them if they are!

Hi! The Ashley one has already been released, you can find the post here. I update it whenever I find new lines - usually in her post-mission opinions or lines related to Shepard’s background. At some point I intend on romancing her again with a renegade mShep to make it more comprehensive.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to release Kaidan’s transcript, as one technically already exists (here, also linked in Ashley’s post)…but it is admittedly not formatted very reader friendly, nor is it as comprehensive (it doesn’t have the branch I posted in my last reblog, for instance), which is the entire reason I started my own.

If people are interested, I’m willing to finish it and release it, though. It’s still incomplete because Kaidan is a lot more annoying to transcribe than Ash (no disrespect to him - he’s my favorite BW char, but his dialogue branches are [Jean Ralphio voice]the woooooorst and very frustrating from a transcription angle) so by the end of the game I had to stop for my own sanity lol.

Same disclaimers as the Ashley transcript would apply - there are a lot of dialogue variances in ME1 that are dependent upon Shepard’s choices and background (and other unknown factors, much to my annoyance) that cannot possibly be accounted for in a single playthrough. But like with Ashley, I’d add onto it whenever I found something new.

That being said, if no one else is interested (or just in the meantime) I’d still be happy to send the Kaidan doc to you as is, just be warned I haven’t touched it in an editing capacity since around February and there are parts that aren’t even fully formatted, so it might be confusing. But if you’re fine with that, I don’t mind sharing it privately.

yes i did publish it. i have plans to republish it at some point alongside ashley's, since hers is the main one i really need to re-do, but both should still be publicly available. you can find kaidan's transcript here

also because it recently crossed my dash, @omegastation has far more transcripts available than i ever made including their own ashley/kaidan transcripts. you can find them here.

i of course have many opinions on horizon and the fan reaction to it, and if i were to focus on all of them i would be here all day because horizon is one of my favorite trilogy subjects, so instead i am just going to make a quick and short post about how amusing i find the (negative) reaction to kaidan in particular when this man tells you exactly what he would do an entire game ahead of time

me1 is really just so charming to me. it is incredibly clunky and lacks emotional depth and yet it's also incredibly cozy and feels like coming home. it has a totally different ambiance compared to me2 or me3 and i think the fact i adore it so much is evident in nadia. i'm running around me1 with this not-nadia shepard and collecting all these side missions and investigating all these dialogue options to get the awkward info dumps and in my head i'm just thinking, "this shepard wouldn't be doing any of this, she doesn't give a fuck, she has a god complex this would 100% be a speedrun me1 playthrough if i were hardcore roleplaying" but you know who does do all that stuff and it's in character? nadia. nadia loves collecting pointless information. nadia loves asking questions. nadia loves exploring unknown areas. nadia would detour their mission to board a derelict spaceship because she's just like "yo what's in there let's go check it out." nadia would bring back an ancient desiccated corpse for chakwas to identify for no other reason other than "i just wanted to know." nadia would collect all those matriarch writings, salarian tags, prothean discs, turian insignias. nadia has a huge insatiable curiosity about the galaxy that no amount of violence has ever been able to squash and me1 is the only game in the trilogy that lets me explore this trait in her

imagine being kaidan, handpicked to serve aboard the normandy by renowned alliance hero david anderson and on your first ground mission you accidentally trigger ancient alien tech that almost kills your XO who is Also a renowned alliance hero. and then afterward once she finally wakes up she yells at you and says you almost cost them the mission and you're just like :/ and then immediately 5 minutes later she's like "anyway so we need to figure out who gets shore leave when" like she didn't just spend 15 hours knocked out after you almost indirectly killed her. i love commander shepard actually can you imagine having to interact with her on a daily basis. what is wrong with her (affectionate)

it's crazyyyy 2.0 the volus were literally one of the first species on the citadel and they're the literal backbone of the galactic economy and they don't even get their own unique embassy space

no but it's crazyyyy how much the games repeatedly show you the influence and power the asari, salarians, and turians have over every other species in the galaxy, and you still have people in fandom trying to pretend human xenophobia is the worst crime imaginable and also, humans are the entitled oppressor class, actually. avina straight up calls non-council species "lesser species" tell me how this casual display of council species supremacy is on par with ashley not wanting to trust aliens to have humanity's back when shit hits the fan (rhetorical question, i am not actually interested)

it's not that important, but i really do prefer kaidan being the one who triggers the beacon. i think that immediate sense of curiosity is more in character of kaidan compared to ashley, who consistently shows trepidation/suspicion toward unknown, alien things. but also, like, give ashley a break, man. her entire team just died. her entire career thus far has been plagued by unfair discrimination because of her family name. adding "indirectly destroys a prothean beacon and almost kills commander shepard" onto that just feels mean. plus the narrative aftermath doesn't properly account for how her part in that would interact with the alliance's preexisting issues toward her for being a williams anyway. on the other hand, "indirectly destroys a prothean beacon and almost kills commander shepard" is like the worst thing in kaidan's file since baat, 100%, and also i just think it's funnier if the staff lieutenant almost kills the XO

I learned after I made my previous post that Pinnacle Station DLC won’t be included in the remaster, which is objectively no big loss considering it’s basically just a worse, less fun, proto-version of Armax Arsenal in Citadel DLC and genuinely doesn’t add much of anything to the main plot or trilogy in general, buuuuut

I am absurdly attached to it, because I am absurdly attached to the apartment you get on Intai’sei, because it’s actually a huge thing for Nadia in my canon.¹
