I think of him as a kid who desperately craves reassurance and help, but doesnāt trust that anyone could possibly like him enough to give it. He pushes people away and puts them into boxes, so they wonāt do it to him first. But underneath that, heās smart, creative, funny, and very passionate about everything. He feels a lot. Probably too much. Always has. But at the same time, heās kind of naĆÆve. He thinks smoking pot and listening to kind of basic punk bands makes him really edgy. He still reads comic books, and heās got a sketchpad full of drawings, and he studies people while never really being able to connect with them. He listens to peopleās conversations without them knowing. He notices that Evan has no friends, even when it would be very easy to assume that Jared is his friend and move on.Ā When tries to reach out, itās awkward and blunt and he avoids eye contact and doesnāt realize itās not appropriate to take up all the available space when you sign someoneās cast. Nothing comes naturally, where other people are concerned. Maybe it never did, maybe itās a newer development. Heās quick to anger, and lashes out, but usually out of fear. Heās got a very powerful fight-or-flight response, and most of the time, he goes with fight. His history of negative interactions with people, combined with his negative feelings towards himself lead to a sort of paranoia. Like the world is out to get him, and people have to prove to him that they arenāt malicious, instead of the other way around. But heās trying. And honestly, had he survived, I think he could have gone on to live a really nice, fulfilling life. He obviously needs help, but if he got it, he could thrive.
