Death by Boredom | Nora & Cordelia

Not entirely convinced that the entire situation was properly handled, Cordelia looked Nora up and down to check for injury. Finally deciding nothing was truly amiss, she smiled and followed Nora’s lead. 

"He’s your type, eh? Well, that’ll sure be interesting," she laughed. Nora’s giggle was infectious, and the laughter just poured forth.

Her next question, however, caught Cordy completely off guard. Who around here did she fancy? Had she given herself any time to fancy anyone. She had noticed how charming Jasper was, and there were a couple other blokes around the dorms who quite fit… Yet she wasn’t entirely sure any of them had grabbed her fancy.

"You know, I’m not entirely sure. I guess had a bit of a crush on an Algebra TA my freshman year…"  Nothing too serious, she added silently to herself.

“Interesting?  What do you mean by that?” She laughed. She started to wonder if there was someone else who liked Jasper besides her. She wasn’t too sure she was in any state to battle over a boy. She hated confrontation. Confrontation had given her nothing but trouble. Sure, he was handsome. But she barely knew the guy. Still, her new friend’s comment did spark her curiosity, and that was always a dangerous road.

“Algebra TA? Seems innocent enough. I once thought I was in love with my biology teacher my freshman year of high school. We all go through it.” She smiled, guiding her new friend out of the library and back onto the cold campus grounds. “God did it get colder?” She shivered, wrapping her coat more snuggly around her. “I love Michigan, but I hate this cold.”

“I wish we had like, a club or something so we can meet cute guys. Can you imagine? I think we’d make quite a stir don’t cha think?”

Death by Boredom | Nora & Cordelia

Right off the bat, Nora Grace amused Cordelia. “Oh, sorry dear— I should have clarified what I meant! Mr. Thornton and Mr. Higgins are Character’s in Elizabeth Gaskell’s Novel, North and South. I only meant that it was a pity North and South isn’t as popular as Pride and Prejudice,” She explained, easing the slightly distressed state of her new friend.

Upon listening to the excited girl, she deduced that the poor thing worked in the library. And under any other circumstance, working at the library would be a magnificent job, however during the holiday break, it was probably utter hell. Pitying the overzelous girl, and simultaneously excited by her enthusiasm, she listened to everything the girl said.

"Wait… are you talking about Jasper," she grinned, further amused by Nora’s outburst, "yeah, I would say he’s quite charming! A pain in the arse at times, but aren’t we all?" She continued, "And of course we can be friends. As far as I’m concerned, that bridge is crossed—" Her eyes went wide as she jumped back at the exact moment Nora Grace jumped up. Horrified, she watched as the blade made it’s way toward her new friend, and cringed at the sound of heavy books meeting a hard surface. "—already…Are you alright?"

Nora nodded, catching her breath. “I’m…I’m fine.” She gulped, taking a deep breath to calm herself down. “Sharp…objects make me nervous. Childhood trauma and all that.” She smiled at her new friend, doing her best to reassure her that she was fine. That was the fourth time this week she’d made a public outburst due to some random household object. If she kept this up…No. She wouldn’t think about it.

“So, Jasper is his name?” She changed the subject, hoping to take the attention off of her and onto more normal things. “I haven’t been able to bring myself to talk to him, but he seems like m kind of guy.” She giggled. What the hell was that? I never giggle. She picked up her book bag, slipping it onto her shoulder, picking up Cordy’s books and handing them to her, then slipped her arm through the other girl’s.

“Now that we’ve established m type, is there anyone around here that’s caught our eye? Anyone you fancy?” She smiled, tilting her head. She had a feeling this was going to turn into a beautiful friendship, that is if she could keep the meltdowns to a minimum.
