Do you have any thoughts on why WA would include give the names “don and dawn” in their twins names? like do you have a headcanon on where they might have gotten those names and why they chose them? :) (sorry if this is worded weird) always love your headcanons!

Yes! I actually did have headcanons for this that I now know will totally be contradicted by canon, but hey, we can still have fun! 

Once they learned they were having a boy and a girl, Barry and Iris knew right away they were going to honor his mother and her father with their first names. The middle names they still had yet to choose, but they figured they would wait to meet their babies before picking those out for them. This way they could incorporate something unique and specific to the twins or something contextual surrounding their birth in their names that they couldn’t foresee beforehand. Iris scouted for names constantly throughout her pregnancy and even had a baby name book that she kept in the bag she packed for the hospital for this very reason.

Iris ends up having pregnancy complications and the twins have a traumatic birth because of their meta physiology, and she’s left in a coma for some time after their delivery via surgery. They settle on the name “Dawn” because she was the first twin Barry met in the NICU while Iris was still comatose and, “When I saw her, Iris, when I first held her, for a moment, it felt like everything was going to be alright,” he muses. So it’s a little homage to, “It’s always darkest before the dawn” because meeting her gave Barry some peace while he was waiting for Iris to wake up. They have a bit of a harder time picking Don’s middle name, but ultimately they decide on “Donavan” because Iris still scans that baby name book while she’s in recovery, and when she sees the brilliant head of dark hair her tiny son is sporting she remembers Donavan, Irish for “brown-haired warrior.” 

So there you have it, Nora Dawn and Joseph Donovan, and Dawn and Don end up being their nicknames/pet names ☺️

I get a stack of scripts, like, once a month, and most of the time, you find these placeholder girls that are there to provide a bounce for the male character. So we know he’s funny because she’s serious and she’s mad at him. We know he’s strong because she needs saving. So really, her job is to validate this personality trait of our hero or male.

Career Day at the twins’ kindergarten involves Barry and Iris competing to see whose profession will draw the most attention from the kids. Barry brings his CSI briefcase with some old tools he doesn’t use anymore and his microscope and Iris brings her recorder and her work laptop. The twins’ classmates have fun with his microscope, but the second they find out they can playback messages in silly voices to each other through Iris’s recorder, they all crowd around her to take turns and she wins. Iris asks them what they want to be when they grow up and gets a collective unison of, “A journalist!” to Barry’s dismay 😂
