Light blue sky above Leo was like a calm surface of a sea. If you let your thoughts to wander around, you can imagine that you're lying on the bottom of the Mediterranean sea, thick layers of water catches the sizzling sun, protecting you from the heat.
This afternoon was probably the hottest one of the week if not of the month. Leo was lying on the ground in the shadow of the tall old platan. The summer has only begun. Saying this phrase to himself it tasted honey sweet with tones of complete freedom. So many free, lazy, sunny days ahead. He should make most of it, Leo thought. Like a dying person takes deep sharp breath in the last minute of his life, he needed to take this summer in, all its nights, days, colors and tastes. In a year time when he finish the college he won’t come back here. He hasn't told his parents yet, he knew they would disagree. But he also knew he won’t change his decision.
Leo lazily thought what to do this evening. He might go to the nearby town, pop in Santiago's bar, catch up the lattest town's gossips and have a drink or two. He might go to a lake down the road and swim all evening or he can stay home, open the doors on the balcony to let all evening scents and noises slide into the room, while he's reading a book. He hasn't decided yet and honestly didn't want to. Not making plans for a day is privilege of the summer vacation. And he wanted to go with a flow.
He came home when it was almost 6 pm. He fell asleep right under that tree without noticing it. Coming up to his house he noticed a car on the driveway at the neighbor's house. He slightly frowned, he didn't remember Aveiros having a car and moreover a relative with a car. Silvana and Pedro Aveiro were an old couple. They were over 70 years old and as far as he remembered were always living on their own. They didn't have children and other relatives never visited them, so Leo came to the conclusion that they all by themselves. But still they were really nice, intelligent people. Leo remembered how being a kid he spent afternoons in their garden, watching Silvana gardening and listening to her tales about flower princesses and princes or watching how Pedro was getting ready to go fishing early in the morning.
Thinking what might happened Leo stepped inside the house and headed to the kitchen where he could hear his mum making a dinner.
"Who's car on the Aveiros's driveway?" He took the decanter from the kitchen table and poured some water into the glass. "Are they selling the house?"
"No," mum stopped chopping tomatoes and looked at him over her shoulder. "A relative visiting. Silvana said it's their nephew. He is taking a trip around the Europe and decided to stop by as he has never been to Spain".
Leo drunk water in one go with big gulps.
"There're some kind of problems with the car, so I don't think he will leave soon". She didn't sound sorry but Leo didn’t answer or asked anything.
"It might be good for Silvana and Pedro. It's always nice to have someone close visiting you. When you're living all alone for so many years... I mean they deserve it. Plus that guy, he's almost your age. You can finally have a company here and not wander all by yourself". She smiled. "If I overheard right, his name is Cristiano".
I always wanted to write something like this in the football fandom. Ideas about settings and pairings were constantly changing but when I saw Cressi Week announcement everything clicked together. I thought that colors and seasons match together perfectly and I can tell the story of young Leo and Cris from June to December, using particular colors as inspiration. I wrote this short drabble on my way home from work. I decided to bring it here because now I don't have enough time and energy to write the full story and upload on AO3, at least not on Cressi week schedule. But I want to say huge thank you to amazing people who still organize this Week! You're wonderful and inspirational
