While most people know him for his music, fewer people know him for his love of football. Dmitri Shostakovich was arguably the biggest fan of Leningrad's football team FC Zenit. He attended games regularly, kept track of scores and standings in a notebook dedicated entirely to Soviet football, and even wrote a few football-related articles for the local paper. He loved the sport so much that he was even a trained referee!
Pictured here is Shostakovich (bottom right) and friends at a football match. He clearly transforms from his typical morose and sarcastic self to an enthusiastic and excited version when football is in question.
