Rose Mallow (Hibiscus laevis)
Actaea Rubra (Red Baneberry)
Another woodland native that self-seeds nicely. The Stylophorum diphyllum (Celandine Poppy, Wood Poppy)
One of my favorites. Several years ago I did some seeding of various species and after a few years this popped since. Since then it has re-seeded a number of plants around it. Polemonium reptans (Jacob's Ladder)
This little trickster is interesting because the flowers come up before the leaves. Anemone americana (Round-lobed Hepatica)
I keep wanting to harvest these but as I only have two (up from one!) I guess it'll have to wait. Allium tricoccum (Ramp or Wild Leek) #wildfood #forage #allium #nativeplants #minnesota
Young growth of the Stylophorum diphyllum (Celendine or Wood Poppy).
The first sign of the Trillium cuneatum also know as Purple Toadshade Trillium or Little Sweet Betsy
The spectacularly colored young sprouts of the Mertensia virginica (Virginia Bluebells).
Trying to post more spring photos but the squill is the first thing blooming near me. 2013 was actually a couple days later for those of you keeping track. Squill aren't native but are naturalized here. They don't compete with any native species and mostly grow on lawns and does back in the early spring but provide some welcome spring color. The stripped variety bloom a couple weeks before the Siberian variety. Puschkinia scilloides (Striped Squill)
One of the actaea's. Rubra or pachypoda.
