Zeca Afonso was a Portuguese folk musician whose music was often banned by the Estado Novo (Portugal’s fascist dictatorship) for being communist. When the military staged a coup, they played one of the not-banned songs on the radio as a signal; the coup kicked off the Carnation Revolution. So now “Grândola, Vila Morena” is a symbol of the revolution and saying “fuck you” to fascists, which means there are a lot of very excellent videos of whole stadiums singing it together.
had a dream that teenagers on TikTok started holding seances to make contact with Winston Churchill’s ghost and insult him
“Churchilling” was a funny trend for a little while, but then people figured out that any dead historical figure could be contacted and harassed from beyond the grave in this fashion, which was also a funny trend until it got coopted into bad social justice rhetoric and anytime a living person got criticized they would counter with “well why are you canceling ME when you could be cancelling any of THESE people, who were REALLY bad and never redeemed themselves” and would then post a list of links to Wikipedia articles about dead dictators and serial killers and colonists for people to direct their ire and energy at. and if you expressed your disapproval at this fixation on the dead, people would accuse you of “acquitting the dead” instead of holding them accountable through mean seances.
in the cold light of day this dream is no longer funny but in fact far too real for comfort
“I wish this dream were real” does the moral lesson of my nightmare mean nothing to you
90s comics had me woefully complaining about all the egregious copaganda, with a large part of it consisting of just.... not acknowledging any rights of the accused. like yeah venom 100% did the crimes they were accused of but like, they still have basic human rights that need to be honored. to make exceptions with those rights and then to present those exceptions as a good thing is, well, worrying.........
but the few times ive encountered daredevil in these comics he's consistently so right about this. like, literally, yes venom is still entitled a fair trial in the court, you cant just fucking lock someone up indefinitely without trial. like peter's bias against venom is obvious but everybody else also agrees with him so daredevil is like the one sane voice pointing out everything wrong with all that
i normally hate the "symbiote is controlling eddie, who is just an unwilling vessel of the Violent Alien" thing but this is so fucking great i love this trial thing i love him twisting all of spiderman's words and i love knowing that throughout this whole thing, eddie is lying that the symbiote is dead. this whole thing is so petty im having so much fun
Since people seemed to enjoy my Twisted one, I present a comparative analysis of plays based on Harry Potter:

it’s safe to say i think about this video at least four times a day, i can quote almost the whole thing from memory
Sometimes listening to straight girls talk is so wild they’ll be like “it sucks that I’m tall because I love heels so much but I can’t wear them because then I’ll be taller than my boyfriend!!!” and just like what in the goddamn hell are you talking about
We got you buddy
