Forty years ago, the future looked like this Pontiac Trans Sport Concept, 1986. A futuristic minivan designed to inject style and innovation into a segment then dominated by boxy, utilitarian vehicles like Chrysler's early minivans. It featured an expansive, aircraft-style glass canopy and a single, large gull-wing door on the passenger side to access the rear seating area. It was powered by a prototype all-aluminium 235hp 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 that was being considered for the Pontiac Fiero GT at the time. The series production version of 1990 was nowhere as wild as the concept van.
