I still laugh whenever I remember that the reason there was a whole section in Goblet of Fire dedicated to Hermione explaining the correct pronunciation of her name to Viktor Krum was because JK Rowling had found out there were actually people out there calling her character “Hermy One”

In the Norwegian translation they just removed the "o" from the name. making it 'Hermine'. I never read the book, so I wonder how that section of the book was handled...

So we're making a game

it's apparently happening! Me and my friend have actually started. not much to show for it yet except a few videos of the models and animations we're working on (only areas so far) but it's pretty cool that it's actually getting started after years of talking about it. I'm the George Lucas of this operation. which means that I have the general idea of some designs, the story, the characters development and other stuff. it also means my friend is stuck with the coding and modelling. I might have to try to learn the modelling thing if this is ever going to be finished. Level design will definitively be a challenge, I can already see that I'm having some problems even coming up with a good idea for a whole level. I just have bits and pieces drawn down in books or on post-it notes. I think I have the idea for the main character pretty much down, unfortunately my drawing skills are not good enough to accurately convey them on paper.. I'll have to work on that, or get help from someone who can bring my ideas to life, so to speak. That is pretty much the two big snags right now. my drawing skills and my level designer skills. I have TONS of sketches, but they are very basic, not at all what you want to see. as for the levels, I have the general feel of each level down to an acceptable level for now. with minor details and such. oh yeah, should probably mention that this will be a 'Castlevania' Clone.. we're not even trying to hide it. it's what we feel is missing from the franchise, but it's of course our own new IP. it just happens to be about killing Dracula with a whip-like weapon. As for story. I have some major points down. actually I have more than we can use, as we don't plan to have many cutscenes and stuff. and so I'm wondering if we should get someone who can draw in, and maybe (at some point) make a graphic novel of it all.. or a graphic novel that compliments the story of the game.

My career so far has a soundtrack..

I used to work in IT, well I still do. but for many years I worked in IT for other companies. and THIS perfectly sums up my time there... Then about 7 months ago, I got a new job. still in IT, but now I work in a municipal position.. and while it is similar.. the soundtrack to this position can be found HERE  Not even kidding.. these two songs, and their respective shows perfectly represent my career so far...

Cosplay

Recently I figured Superior Spider-Man would be my next cosplay. I checked around for materials, and even contacted a guy who could help me make some semi-functional spider arms. but right now, I'm just not feeling it. The cosplay would be cool and all, but I want to go to a US con next year, either SDCC or NYCC. and that will put a dent in my cosplay budget, so the arms might be out of the question, which makes me rethink the whole cosplay.. but what else could I do? :/

Serenity: Leaves on the wind - Mini review

So yesterday I FINALLY got issue 6 of 'Leaves on the wind', which meant I had some reading to do! (being that I didn't even open issue 1-5 until yesterday)

and, let me tell you.. it's pretty good! THE BAD Let's start with the bad. Well for one, it's only 6 issues to tell a big story. and that is the major problem. I'm not sure what everyone else was hoping for, but I wanted something like the previous comics, "Those Left Behind" and "Better Days". Each that felt almost like a single episode. 'Leaves on the wind' feels more like "Serenity 2", rather than a "season 2".       -Technically 'Serenity' IS season 2, or at least they used a lot of the              story elements that were meant to be spread out over season 2

'Leaves on the wind' has a great overarching story, but it feels a little rushed, like I would have wanted more focus on the little things, like in the show itself. maybe if it was a 10 or 12 issue story it would have felt closer to the show than the movie, it's just too much happening over too short of a timespan. There is a scene that I feel didn't quite fit in. It started pretty close to what you would see in the show, but it took a very comic book type turn. I won't spoil this, but you'll probably understand what I mean when you read it. There is also ONE particular image I didn't like. and I don't want to spoil anything, but it's a scene where something happens in space, AND THERE IS A DESCRIPTIVE SOUND.. it's just silly when the show actually focused on the "no sound in space" thing. I don't want to see "WHOOOSH", "POW", "ZAP" or "BAM" in the comics... THE GOOD Now for the good. It feels like being back in the verse! I could hear all the characters voices in my head, and the dialog is solid. The art is good, with a few exceptions where people don't quite look like their real life counterpart, but this is mostly in single squares. The feel of the story is good, it progresses interestingly (albeit with the aforementioned "rush" in the story) I would have LOVED to see this as an animated feature, or as part of an animated show, with the story spread out over at least two, possibly four extra episodes to change the pace a little. Again the story is really good! the characters act like I thought they would, and the new characters fit right into the world.

FINAL VERDICT

Totally a part of the world, and a good addition for us Browncoats! I recommend buying it, and a second copy to lend out/give away to other Browncoat recruits! 7/10 - Great to be back in the verse, but too much is happening too fast. This is how I personally would advice new people to get into the verse - Firefly - The show - Serenity: Those left behind - Serenity - The Movie - Serenity; The Shepherd's Tale - Serenity: Better Days & other Stories - Serenity: It's never easy (this will be included in the LOTW HC) - Serenity: Leaves on the wind

I need to step up my discipline. I have a lot work right now for both school and for applying to schools this fall. This is the beginning of a character design for my portfolio. I like it so far but I am not sure if I should keep the long hair or keep it short. I’m not sure with the braid either. Right now I have to figure out the rest of her outfit and then do a complete concept art page of her.

What do you guys think of her? Ideas? Opinions? Please brainstorm with me guys.

I write here more often than it seems

I probably write a post here every week. and it's usually very long, but sometimes just a short expression of what I feel or whatever. yet, I rarely post it. I get to the point where I've written it all down, and then I feel like I've sort of gotten it off my chest. and also I feel I'll be judged by the things I write, so I press "cancel" instead

my next cosplay project seems to be Hulkling.

I enjoy the character, but I haven't been massively into Young avengers to be honest. My friend is going to be Wiccan at some point, and I really like her, so that's why I'll probably do it.

So, since I'm not overly familiar with the character and the character design, I've been on a quest around the web to find inspiration, ideas and just generally learn something new about the character. aaaand I must admit.. not my most favorite thing ever.

I've seen a lot of cool cosplay, and a lot of good artwork.. and so..much..yaoi..(or is it slash?!) as a straight man, I feel I've seen way to much penis the last couple of days. and I probably should have seen it coming, and probably not have used tumblr as a main source for pictures. oh well hindsight is 20/20 and all that.

but yeah, I feel I've actually gotten "far". I've got a general idea on how to do a lot of the cosplay. but still working on where to get a yellow/black jacket, or of I should go for the whole suit. we'll see what I end up with, and if my ideas work, usually they need more thinking trough or some modifications to work.

I'm pretty happy

just wanted to share that with whoever is actually reading this. London trip was awesome, seeing all the people from last year. and especially the pair of Swedish girls, who I actually count as my friends.* 

It's beautiful weather outside, real summer weather (in Norway!!), I just found out that I made it into the latest Sneaky Zebra video. and I'm just generally happy.. I spend a lot of time thinking about what will happen next in my life, but I can't really find that much negativity,.. probably need to change my Grumpy Cat avatar on my phone if this keeps up ^^,

*= That's not to say that the others aren't friends, but you have a certain varying degree of friendship right?! and I feel that the Swedes are closer to me both friendship wise, and geographically!

MCM May 2014

this was actually a typically looooong post about my stay at MCM, how I loved it even more than last year. that it was great seeing my friends again, and that I am pretty happy about how I turned out to look in my cosplay.

but... It quickly became a post with me rambling about the one thing that happened that I've actually been thinking about for the last week.

That I got a crush on my friend! last year I had the post-comic-con-blues... this year I just keep thinking "where will this head?"
