EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE (2022)
When I choose to see the good side of things, I’m not being naive. 我总是看到事情好的一面 那不是因为我天真。 It’s strategic, and necessary. 而是必要,和需要。
Of all the places I could be, why would I want to be here with you? Yes. You’re right. It doesn’t make sense! Maybe it’s like you said. Maybe there is something out there, some new discovery that will make us feel like even smaller pieces of shit. Something that explains why you still went looking for me, through all of this noise. And why, no matter what, I still want to be here with you. I will always, always want to be here with you.

DAN KWAN: We love genre mashups and we love sci-fi movies. We love, you know, things like The Matrix, we grew up on kung fu films, and this film kind of became a way for us to do all of that at the same time. I’m very proud of what we did. Somehow, it all works. Somehow, it mashes together and it’s a beautiful stew. It’s a cosmic gumbo.

I hired a body movement coach, Jean-Louis Rodrigue, because I wanted the audience to be able to distinguish each version of this character based on how they moved, walked and talked. He has a fascinating process to help you get into that character. He will read the script and pick a specific animal for you to copy. For Alpha Waymond, it was an eagle; for CEO Waymond, a fox; and for Waymond in the present universe, it was a squirrel. — Ke Huy Quan
I was never a heavy drinker to begin w, only ever social and even then I would nurse my glass, but neither of us really drink at all anymore and it’s odd how much that seems to unsettle people? We each had a cocktail the other night to celebrate the arrival of some family but every time we’ve been out w them since they comment on how we’re basically teetotalers now bc we didn’t order a flute of champagne to go w our meal or if we’re out w friends they’ll clown on us for not drinking and it’s just interesting bc I knew on a logical level how wide spread and pervasive drinking culture is but you really can’t grasp how deeply woven into the fabric of socialization it is until another person is confronted w your opting out
I feel sad for people who believe this world has lost touch w culture. Are pleasure and beauty a little harder to find in a society adrift? I think so, but explore a little more and hope and bliss and connectivity and transformation are all still there
Learning to be joyous about the complexities of people and their hidden worlds. Relieved that I don’t have to oversee and maintain everything; my only job is to keep it pure on my end. I will never have all of the control nor all of the power nor all of the information. Most of it is beyond words. “Everyone should cultivate their secret garden.” Not taking it personally that I don’t take up all the real estate in their mind and body. Being happy for them and their senses, dreams, desires that exist outside of myself. Choosing to love on the distant days and the close ones. The moon and the river are really both perfect, both gorgeous, and they do two separate things, they go two different places. But they work together and I love the tide
