Many years ago I placed free personal ads in various publications looking to meet women who also liked going barefoot. My intent was to meet someone who was comfortable doing so and not embarrassed to be with someone else who is barefoot in public. I was not looking for anything along the fetish lines (foot worship, etc.). I did get a variety of responses, which I expected. I met several women from an ad in the Village Voice (NYC). One was a hippie-wannabe who enjoyed barefooting on the grass in the park, beach and other places where slipping off footwear was common. She didn't go barefoot on the street because she picked up a small shard of glass once. Another woman met me in Washington Square Park. She showed up barefoot. We walked around the Village, took in a movie in a small movie house. Before we left she asked me if it was OK put on her shoes. Rather strange, I guess she wasn't comfortable after all, we never met again. She also wasn't an avid barefooter but wasn't afraid to try it, at least once. I did get one other response from someone I chose not to meet. From our phone conversation I believed she was a dominatrix.
Another ad from the New York Press was responded to by several women. One was from Madurai, India. She always went barefoot back home and had wide feet and callouses to prove it. She did feel uncomfortable barefooting in the city alone and was self-conscious of the strange looks and sometimes comments from other people, but she was more confident being with another barefoot person. We hung out for a couple of months together. She wore toe rings and metallic ankle bracelets. The dirtiest we got our feet was taking the subway to Coney Island and back. Another woman was in her late forties I would guess. She was an aging hippie type, redhead with freckles. went barefoot a lot in her youth and was very comfortable walking around the city, shopping, etc. sans footwear and didn't mind our dirty feet at all. Her soles were very tough and tanned on the tops. I can recall picking a few small shards of glass from her soles with tweezers a couple of times. Slight hazard from walking on NYC streets! She didn't feel them there, I saw them when we compared our soles at the end of the day. I doubt I'd get any responses if I placed the ads today, except for some of the type I wouldn't have preferred to meet. I'd like to hear any similar stories from others who sought the friendship of fellow barefooters.
