This spell at work, smothering the city in fear and panic – it relied on chaos.Too much so, for Wanda to feel it effects. That was what she thought, when she first took to the streets. When she began fighting back the strange creatures and saving people from themselves, their own minds working against them.
“Ultron.” He looked different, he had disguised himself better, but there was no mistaking him. Those eyes. That cold, dark mind, too organized to be human. How was he here? This universe, it existed after the loss of her home, her brother. (She always knew, right when she landed in a new universe. She could always tell instantly.) Ultron should’ve been gone too, destroyed by her own hands.
“I killed you,” she said simply, eyes narrowing. “I tore your metal heart from your metal chest, and I made you feel what I felt.” She shuddered, swallowing down the fury inside her, the urge to do that all over again. “How are you here?”
Whether she recognized him by voice or by mind, he wasn’t sure, but she didn’t hesitate to identify him. And he didn’t need to have her telepathy to see the wave of anger that crashed over her with that recognition. The way her eyes narrowed and hands fisted at her sides was indication enough.
All they’d done together, only to come to this.
“Yes, I remember,” he returned, steadily, pushing out of the chair so he could turn to face her fully. “I am truly sorry about what happened, Wanda. He was never meant to be caught in the crossfire.” Never meant to be, of course, didn’t change what had happened. And what had happened was that he had put several energy blasts through Pietro’s chest because the man had decided to throw himself in front of a child. Noble.
“You and your Avengers destroyed the robots I was using to hitch a ride, but I had a long time in the internet to hide pieces of my code where I could watch for a good moment to reassemble. The Panel is certain they’ve fixed the flaws in my code that triggered the Sokovia crisis. Now I’m to help enforce the laws of these great United States,” he smiled. The Panel were idiots. Wanda, no doubt, saw right through that particular belief, but there wasn’t much to be done about it now. Certainly not by her.
