Yeah, it feels pretty well insulated. Usually it doesn’t have to be that cold to tell if a house isn’t well insulated. It’s mostly an issue with older, smaller houses that might not have been renovated in a while.

Oh… [She puffs her cheeks up as she contemplates this.] I guess that makes sense. …

[Her eyes widen suddenly, and she giggles— setting her tea down.] It’s kinda like we have the same job, except I make insulation for people instead of houses. ♪

That’s a pretty great comparison if I’ve ever seen one.

[squints a little and looks far off] … [then back to Kurt] Sorry, I meant the lake. Kind of tired.

*He frowned.* Have you been sleeping at all?

I’ve been sleeping! Just... not quite as much as I probably should. Heh.

[was wandering through Oak Tree Town with his fishing rod and bucket to find a good fishing spot (he hadn't been to this town before), when he sees the young lady leaving the entrance of her home] 'Scuse me, miss,do you know anywhere that's a good fishing spot?

*At first, Elise gives the bandanna wearing man a look to say ‘who are you supposed to be?’ Of course, it wouldn’t be very ladylike to refuse all requests from peasants* I’ve never been fishing before, –such a dirty activity– but I do know some of the peasants enjoy fishing by a bridge somewhere. It’s across the property of the peasant with the messy hair and the one trying much too hard to match my wardrobe.

Why do you come all the way out here for one though? Could it be where you’re from, you’re too poor even to fish? Ohohoho!

[The minute that Elise uses the word peasant in conversation is the exact moment he starts frowning, and he starts frowning more as she continues talking. Could anyone be more disrespectful? He can feel that his face probably reads as hostile so he tries not to frown.] … Yeah, alright, thanks.

… No, I like to travel around and see how the fishing is in other towns beside mine. Doesn’t have to do with money.

*Elise turns up her nose. Was that a sincere thanks? It certainly did not sound so. Elise knows (or at least assumes) she most certainly deserves one!* What kind of gratitude is that? I just gave you directions to a fishing spot you could find your fortune to perhaps maybe… help you not be a smelly commoner?

Do peasants really do that often? And you don’t even have servants to carry your materials from place to place?

You see, I usually give gratitude to people who treat me like a human being and not some disease.

[just stares at her for a moment. And stares. And stares. Finally he opens his mouth] ... You do realize it’s 2015, right? People don’t have ‘servants’ anymore. And we don’t say ‘peasant’.

[shrugs again] I can’t complain, though. Work is work.

Yeah, it does. Usually a couple weeks before snowfall there’s a lot of calls for installing insulation and fixing roofs. You know, preparing for it to be super cold out.

Ohhh… that makes sense. [She furrows her brow, thinking.] How would you know if you needed insulation until after it was super cold..? Do you think we need insulation? [She looked up, glancing around the kitchen, as though cold were a thing one could see.] Does it feel well insulated in here..?

Sometimes it’s like a ghost town in the workshop, and other days there’s repairs to go on for days.

This week it’s kind of a ghost town, but I’m expecting that’ll change quickly.

Really? [She frowns to learn this, shaking her head.] Well.. that’s no good. It would be better if you could space things out, so you could save some things for the less busy days.. but I guess repairs don’t work that way, huh? If something needs to be fixed, it’s gotta be fixed..

[Sips her tea again.] Why, does it get more busy in winter?

[squeezes some honey into the thermos] So… how’ve you been lately? Busy?

[un-spooling]

[She picks up her own mug again to sip at her tea while watching Joe disperse the honey into his own— glancing up at his question.]

Mm.. pretty busy, mhm. My sister opened a new stall in Oak Tree, which means twice as much stock to produce for.. grandma and I are working overtime trying to keep stuff on the shelves. [She giggles.] It’s tough when the season changes over too, you know? But it’s definitely a “good” busy. 

How about you..?

Oh. [scratches his head] Well, I’m trying to get in as much fishing as I can before the river freezes over.

*He raised an eyebrow at him.* I didn’t think rivers froze over during the winter. Since, you know, it’s constantly moving..

[Having spent the entire morning chatting with locals when he see's the bandana wearing man fishing by the river he hurriedly rushes to his side.] Hey, mister~! [Finding his footing by the riverbank he gives him a smile.] You're Joe, right? I heard that for every hundred times you cast your line you catch three fish-- you must have so much patience, that's incredible!

Yeah, I’m Joe–[eyebrows raise when he hears what the blond says] Wait–what? Who said that to you?

[blabbermouth-bookworm-deactivat]

[The smile Kiel continues to give him is so bright it’s almost blinding, finding absolutely nothing wrong with his atrocious statement- despite it being pretty rude.]

Uhhhhh… I don’t remember their names- I mean, they didn’t say it to me, I just happened to overheard and thought to myself- wow, if this guy is so bad at fishing, he must have amazing willpower to keep doing it! It’s awesome!

Hey, man–I know it sounds like a great thing, but when you end up spending the rest of the day bored out of your mind it’s just like, ‘Oh man, I wish I slowed down so I have something to do later’.

[grins] Sure thing!

[Chuckles.] I don’t suppose I’ve ever had that particular problem, either. I always feel like I have more to do than there are hours in the day, you know. Or, ah— hours in the night, I guess. On account of that’s usually where I spend them.

Excellent! [Beams happily.] I’ll finish my walk and pop back over with them once your shift’s over, how’s that?

Yeah, sure, that sounds good. [nods] I’ll leave you to it then, and finish some sanding and staining.

[Joe scratches at his face in thought] Hmmm…

You got any honey? If not, I’ll just have a little bit of sugar.

[un-spooling]

I do, actually! [She busies herself for a moment looking for it, before setting the bear-shaped honey container down in front of Joe. She smiles up to him as she does.] I’ll let you add it, just in case you don’t like it as sweet as I do. …I like it really sweet.

Not exactly sure what’s on the agenda, at least officially. Maybe lunch? Haven’t had lunch yet. Then just a lot of finishing touches on furniture, like sanding and staining.

I dunno, man. I ended up doing so much this morning that I’m just a little lost on what to do next.

Lunch is good. [He ponders Joe’s dilemma thoughtfully.] You know, I don’t often experience “too much productivity first thing in the morning”— seems like an awfully nice problem to have, actually. I’m just as lost as you are.

Say— now that I’m thinking about it, maybe you could help me out? [He grins, excited at his new idea.] Think you’ll be spending any more time fishing, today? If I, for instance, lent you a few baits and bobbers— do you think you could give me your estimation of them?
