"grackle" really is a perfect name for a bird. knocked it out of the park w/ that one
i really want a database that cross references like geographical regions (NOT just by state, by environment, like. eastern and western Colorado are completely different ecosystems) with native plants with which plants are historically used for dyeing fabrics.
autism moment I’m building it out. eventually ill need to figure out how to put it online
a front end for a relational database like that is usually one of the easiest kinds of sites to put up. there's probably a lot of open source projects that would be easy to use for such a thing
you might be interested in this.
this is one of the things im using to source info for my database! right now im just doing it in libre office’s database program but eventually i’ll try to find a way to make it a website… anyway i really like the NAEB DB but its not super user intuitive, nor does it hold the wide variety of info im trying to consolidate.
that said!! anyone whos curious should absolutely check this out- you can search by plant but you can also filter by tribe or by the uses of plants? so you can filter by like medicinal or dye or etc and itll give you a ton of relevant info
one time i was making potato soup and i needed broth for it but i was out of broth. but in my dog food cabinet there was a carton of chicken broth that i had bought for my dog. now the box did say HUMAN GRADE and the ingredients were just bog standard chicken broth. it did say something about joint health for dogs on there. but the ingredients were normal. i even compared the ingredients list to some normal person broth and they were the same. so i did put dog broth in that soup and it did taste completely normal. but i did use the dog broth.
yeah she's a total nepo baby. I heard her dad was one of floop's fooglies
one of my favorite this american life segments of late is about the people who played orchestra pit for phantom of the opera on broadway and how, like, a sizeable majority of them had literally been playing the show since it opened in 1988 (on broadway. I know it opened in 86 on the west end, you random pedants, but I am specifically talking about broadway musicians) because their contracts stipulated that they'd have jobs throughout the show's entire run... but nobody anticipated that phantom would become the longest-running broadway show of all time.
and none of these people wanted to walk away from a guaranteed job, so very few of them ever quit. they just kept doing the same show eight nights a week... for twenty or thirty years... and by the time it finally closed last year most of these musicians (who had been working together for DECADES) hated each other and really really fucking loathed phantom. I can't stop thinking about it. it's indescribably hellish to imagine but also the funniest thing I've ever heard in my life.
can you imagine.
[ID: excerpt from an article reading: One of my favorite stories, which should drive anyone who has every played in a band crazy-- there’s this bassoon player who has sat next to the same clarinet player since 1988. She’s convinced he plays half a note4 flat on every note he’s every played. He denies this. /]
why does this read like fetish content

Dusted, cleaned the toilet, and started laundry and I feel like I've been hit by a bus

Autumn Hill left a Prairieland ICE facility protest before it turned violent. She was still sentenced to 50 years as part of Trump's war on
They're sending a trans woman to prison for life over the fact that she attended an anti-ICE protest where a cop died (she had already left the protest when the 'violence' started)
