Distracted (Closed RP)
"A selfless act. Almost strange how many people here send their money home to assist with other things.. when I worked it was much different." His posture was more forward with interest, sleeves rested in his lap even though they were empty now. The tentacles used to mimic hands moved back into the mass to rest from the awkward position as the body felt comfortable now…
One thing caught his attention in that sentence, however. Something that made him tilt his head slightly to the side.
"Girls? Do you have family here?" Daughters? A wife as well, perhaps?
"Do they? Well.. I can’t say I’ve asked folk about what they do with their money." He shrugged lightly and absently tucked a hand behind him to scratch at his lower spine to get rid of an itch. Or try to. It started traveling else where and he did his best to thoughtlessly follow it.
The assumption about his girls had him laughing softly. “No, no. Not family. They’re my birds. Well…” He paused and squinted an eye closed when he finally caught up to the itch. “I suppose you could consider them family. I treat them like my daughters. One’s an African Goshawk, the other’s Peregrine Falcon.”
"Ah, I see. Can't say I've seen many birds up close before- it is an interesting thing to care for. They seem so distant to me, being so skittish..."
His eyes moved down, catching the lines of scars along the sniper's body thanks to the shirt being moved slightly upwards.
He did not make mention of it, however. Given the sniper's origins it wasn't that strange- nothing but a brief glance before he looked back up to the sniper's face.
.... but now his back was itchy.
As casually as possible he tried to find something to scratch his back with, tentacle picking up a hardcover book and using the edge to try and scratch through the jacket with it.
A moment was spent considering her, and he sighed, nodding reluctantly.
He almost apologized for apologizing, but managed to stop himself.
"I could wear my prosthetics, if it makes it easier for you to find a suitable location. I would prefer if no one was activity tracking my phone call, however- I know all calls going in or out of the base are logged and recorded by administration. It could make things more complicated if a man who supposedly died thirty years ago is recorded talking to his mother. My voice hasn’t changed much since then, after all."
"That would make it much more convenient," she admitted, releasing a sigh she had not known was wearing her down. "Our best bet is a hotel then, yes. I can pay that off. You can sleep somewhere nice for once, too."
"Unless you are willing to also pay for any water damage done to the sheets or mattress, I doubt it will be much more spacious." Aime grunted, giving her a look that voiced what he thought of her perceived insensitivity.
Which was, of course, not much.
At least the expression faded quickly as Aime grasped for something else to be positive about, not wanting to squander such an opportunity since it was being forced on him anyways.
".... It may be a nice change of pace to have access to a private bathroom. I recall the warmth being soothing.."
"Hm?" Aime looked to the other, considering him. The calm the splice possessed outwardly was a contrast to the other’s rigidness- he almost felt bad for it.
"It’s alright. If I am to be conversing with people of the lands above, I need to become more understanding. It is an inevitability." He paused, mouth opening and closing as he thought over his next words.
"I trust you. You have given me no reason to do otherwise. I ask that you trust me, too."
Whether or not they were lying out of pity or being truthful, he fought to relax his muscles. Unwinding was a slow process… both legs dangled freely twenty seconds after, resisting any urges to flinch back.
"O—okay. Okay, I am trusting you n-not to drop me." Binh laughed, a high-pitched nervous noise that matched the grip he had on the tentacle.
A slight flinch twitched through the left half of the splice's features- the squeezing was beginning to hurt some...
But he did not mention it, instead coiling his tentacles around the other a little more snugly, holding him a little closer.
"I promise. I will not drop you."
Hello, hello, hello! Are you one of my new teammates? Oh, not that it matters- it is ceasefire after...
Been on this account a lot lately!
Not giving up on Aime- things have just been slow here lately. Please feel free to check out my new character and maybe get some plots going!
"I know," she breathed, smiling even though her body surely ached from the contact. Even so, the recovery was instantaneous; bounding to her feet, she aided in her own clean up. "I don’t think bringing you to my base is a good idea, that’s all. I have to find somewhere a bit more… forgiving."
Waving off his apology, the woman smiled in an attempt to display her gratitude. “Don’t apologize.”
My voice hasn't changed much since then, after all."
If he had the courage to close his eyes, Binh would’ve shut everything out. Plain water was just fine; he’d been up to his neck at times, even ventured into hot springs when travelling past Utah. There was no risk of drowning as the current was practically nonexistent.
Here, with it rushing past them at a speed anyone must fight against, panic rose. The BLU observed their progression with wide eyes (if they could be called that), limbs tucked closer to his torso.
"I-It’s hard for most to underst-stand, anyway." Just a guess that it was aimed at him, considering Aime’s reaction earlier; he didn’t want the ex-spy to feel frustrated.
"Hm?" Aime looked to the other, considering him. The calm the splice possessed outwardly was a contrast to the other's rigidness- he almost felt bad for it.
"It's alright. If I am to be conversing with people of the lands above, I need to become more understanding. It is an inevitability." He paused, mouth opening and closing as he thought over his next words.
"I trust you. You have given me no reason to do otherwise. I ask that you trust me, too."
"No, no. If I did partake in such a thing it would be with one of the teams in my own time. I do not want to become a burden for you. Just as it is in your nature to be stubborn, it is in mine to be easily worried of my existence being cumbersome."
He tilted his head down, eyes closing in a moment of idle thought.
"Thank you, though, for the offer. It is good to know you would be willing to go so far out of your way for me."
"You know, refusing to just take what I give you is more burdening," she hummed, sly eyes narrowing as she leaned into his space. "So… maybe you shouldn’t be feeling this way, ne?”
A backwards way of thinking—but the girl did choose to make sense of the world through manipulation.
"Think nothing of it."
His mouth opened to retort, but closed soon afterwards, a deeper frown clouding his face instead.
After a moment of staring at her he seemed to resign to that fate, nodding with a low-hung head.
Defeat.
A Leg Up
"I was. Easy to lose track of time while immersed in such a thing.." Sluggishly he moved himself over to take a look at what was done- lines of quick mathematics scribbled down to be positioned on a rough sketch of the prosthetics. So much nicer being able to make things to their appropriate size rather than just whatever seemed to fit.
"Thank you. For the coffee." Another sip was taken, the warmth spreading quite nicely through his body.
"Mm, yes. I am intimately familiar with losing track of time." An amused twitch came to his lips as he thought about the sofa out in his office and how it became a pull-out bed. At least when he wasn’t too exhausted. Nine times out of ten he simply sprawled out on the sofa if he didn’t fall to sleep at his desk.
"You are more than welcome to use the coffee maker any time you like. Everything you will need is in the cabinets above it." He gestured with a hand to the cabinets then returned his fingers to the warm side of the mug. "I will be running a few errands today. Namely to find the materials we will need for this little project of ours."
From the sound of it, it was something he looked forward to. He enjoyed getting away from the office and out into the sunlight now and then.
Something Aime noted, in stride. Attention turned back to the plans, the sketches- his own face warmed ever so slightly at the idea of 'running errands' himself.
Just being in the sun again would be nice. If his skin was any indicator, he hadn't been familiar with it for quite some time. Really did have an effect on his energies.
"Thank you- I will have to remember that. While you are out I can make use of the time to finish these measurements- that is, if no one else is to be using this space. I would not want to intrude any more then I am already."
"None of this is a ‘good’ idea— but it seems better than this." He sighed again, softer this time, pulling the page from the book and crumpling it.
"I’ll figure something out. You just get me the phone, and I will worry about the rest."
Out of the tree comes the pyro—a landing worth a zero out of ten, considering how she trips up and plops her belly along the ground.
The failure has no bearings on her mood, though. A hand shoots up in offered compliance.
"All right! I’ll get you the phone when I can. I’ll try to sneak one as far as I can go with it."
"You need a connection for it to work, you know." He frowned at her, tendrils moving to wipe free the dirt clinging to her suit from the fall.
"I apologize. If I was being more attentive I could have caught you."
