Hanna’s favorite books from ages 15-18, and an overly revealing book about Kurt Cobain he would be disgusted to see published. So much teenage angst.

The Palestinian Yarmouk camp in Damascus has been under heavy attacks over the past week with several massacres taking place. Syria is home to around half a million Palestinians. Like the Syrian people, they have lived a life of oppression & want to see change. assad forces have responded the same way it has with Syrians & so far during the revolution around 200 Palestinians have been martyred in Syria. To the highest heaven

Araqia-Headdress from Al Khalil (Hebron) Area
Beyond Æsthetics MMXI :: Birzeit University Museum
British Anthropologist Shelagh Weir, in her book Palestinian Costume describes how conspicuously removing, concealing or destroying the most visible symbols of wealth in their attire, women in Palestine demonstrated their genuine and unquestionable grief. Snubbing wealth in times of loss was a clear statement that life was invaluable.
Seen as the most direct and blatant reference to wealth, coins on the headdress were either taken-off or concealed depending on the style of the headdress. Weir talks about how in the Ramallah area it was also common to remove or hide the coins when a very close relative was away travelling. The headdress (araqieh) from the Hebron area has been covered with a dark silk organza to demonstrate the practice of partially concealing the coin.
I want to be an anthropologist so I can go to exotic places and fix their culture.

Baghdad,
Your old ghosts have come back to haunt you in American uniforms this time.
Your old ghosts have come back to haunt you in American uniforms this time.
And another white man comes to lay his burden at your feet,
another white man comes to lay his burden between your legs, confused at your rejection.
Baghdad,
a few of your men scramble to prostitute themselves for power
and the torture chambers, the torture chambers are ripe with bad apples,
as the screams hover over Dijleh the way Ghazali's voice used to.
Baghdad,
they rip you open for display in UN documents and lame constitutions to argue whether you are veiled or not.
What identity does your colonizer want to give you as he rapes you with democracy?
Baghdad, Baghdad,
let Sabra, Jenin, and Tel al-Zaatar hold you.
Let Sabra, Jenin and Tel al-Zaatar hold you,
bandage your wounds for a night,
take care of you for a night,
let Jenin, Sabra and Tel al-Zaatar hold you.
Because I swear,
I swear we'll light the streets on fire,
I swear we'll light the streets on fire,
I swear we'll light the streets on fire,
before we leave you alone,
Baghdad.
But we've left you alone,
we've left you alone,
Baghdad.
Waiting out the storm
Dave pretending to listen to other people.
Somewhat golden like the afternoons we used to spend before you got too cool.
And when I say, "let's keep in touch", I really mean I wish that you'd grow up
