                                                      the  woman  had  been  unable  to  settle  for  the  night,  which  was  somewhat  unusual  for  her,  she  wasn’t  the  type  to  fall  asleep  the  moment  she  shut  her  eyes  but  she  definitely  wasn’t  the  type  to  still  be  lay  awake  hours  later  either.  hence  why  she  had  risen  from  her  bedroll  and  made  her  way  to  the  still  lit  campfire,  deciding  she  may  as  well  brew  some  coffee  if  she  were  to  stay  awake  and  try  to  make  it  through  the  rest  of  the  day.  

                                                      halfway  through  her  first  “patrol”  around  horseshoe  overlook  with  a  freshly  brewed  coffee  cupped  delicately  in  hands,  rosanna  passed  lenny  doing  actual guard  duty  and  gave  him  a  silent  nod  of  greeting  before  she  continued  on  her  way,  eventually  stumbling  across  kieran  who  also  happened  to  be  awake  at  this  odd  hour.  with  some  concern  to  his  skittish  behavior,  especially  in  the  middle  of  the  night  with  nobody  was  currently  around  to harass  him,  she  comes  to  a  halt  and  momentarily  observes  him  like  she’s  was  simply  watching  wildlife .

                                                      of  course,  she’s  not cruel  enough  to  not  ask  him  if  he’s  alright,  her  bright  emerald  hues  focused  entirely  on  him  even  as  she  brings  the  warm  mug  of  coffee  up  to  her  lips  and  taking  a  couple  of  sips,  grimacing  a  little  at  how  strong  she  had  made  it.  ❝  that  ain’t  somethin’  for  you  to  apologize  for,  mister.  ❞  she  responds  with  a  small  chuckle  to  his  assumption.  ❝  ‘m  awake  for  heavens  knows  what  reason.  i  was  lay  on  that  bedroll  of  mine  for  hours  ‘fore  i  gave  up  even  tryin’  to  get  any  shuteye.  it’d  be  a  miracle  if  i  manage  t’  get  through  the  rest  of  today  without  fallin’  asleep  somewhere  and  have  grimshaw  bark  at  me  for  being  lazy.  ❞  there’s  an  awkward  laugh  once  she  realizes  she’s  rambling,  which  wouldn’t  be  the  worst  thing  if  it  were  with  anyone  else  but  when  it’s  with  the  ex-o’driscoll ( not  that  she  saw  him  as  one  anymore ),  there  might  be  some  talk.  ❝  y’sure  ya  alright?  don’t  want  me  t’  sit  with  ya  for  a  lil’  while? ❞

                  it’s -- well,  admittedly a bit embarrassing to have her approach him as he was.  trembling from how cold,  hungry,  and now scared he was. he tries to swallow down the nerve that crawls up into his throat, and he shakes his head when asked if he wanted her to stay with him for a bit.  which was a complete lie,  he’d love for her to waste more of her time with him -- but he didn’t want to bother her.  he still wasn’t exactly a valued member of this gang; and he wasn’t under the false impression that he was.  of course,  she was just being nice -- because he likely looked pathetic sitting in the cold the way that he was... and he’d rather not embarrass himself further by bothering those who could be potential allies,  or friends down the line.  

                  “ ---- i .. i uh.. i’m fine.  ”     he’ll repeat himself,  though he doesn’t miss how uncertain he sounds; and he swallows the lump forming in his throat.   “ i’ll be okay.  s’just... hard to sleep,  sometimes.  i find workin’ keeps my mind awake, if yer lookin’ to avoid havin’ miss grimshaw on ya back. even just... scrubbin’ tables. it helps. ”

                The time that Kieran ever got time to himself were few and far between. The Van Der Linde gang liked to keep an eye on him, make sure he wasn’t going to run off in the dead of night and give away all the secrets that they’ve kept hidden from the public eye. As if they told him anything to begin with. 

                Still,  at times,  he manages to slip away;  take ten, twenty, perhaps thirty minutes to himself. This time,  he’s taken his fishing rod down to a nearby lake to try to get a good enough catch to maybe feed a few people back at camp. If they’d take it. 

                Kieran was far enough from camp not to have any of the gang who guard the camp to be watching over him, not to be a concern when he sees a man on horseback heading in the general direction of their camp...  but he still reels in his fishing rod,  sets it down, and waves towards the traveler. 

             “ hey ,  uh -- mister.  y ‘ probably shouldn’t be headin that way. there’s a camp set up that way ‘n everyone’s a bit... on edge.”   ||  @sadhill​  x

    “Calm the hell down!” Hissing, Johann takes a cloth he normally has tied around his wrist. Presses it to the wound, wrapping it around and securing at quickly as he can. He has to be quick. And quiet. Who knows how many of those Goddamn O'Driscolls are still around, looking for them. Though he suspects that, if caught, Kieran would be in more danger.

“If we wanna get outta here,” Johann looks at him, scowling, “I need you to be quiet ‘nd to listen to me. Just take a deep breath.” Their horses aren’t too far away. Just gotta sneak over there, hop and disappear. Drawing his knife, a gunshot wound attract too much attention, he leaves Kieran’s side to look over their cover. Starts to sneak off, gesturing for the man to follow him.

            it was difficult to remain calm - it was the smart thing to do, kieran had hardly made it out of their previous encounter with much more than a flesh wound... but his breaths were ragged, shaking hands balled into fists while he tries to do as he’s told and calm the hell down.

              when he’s instructed to follow, he does so easily - taking out the knife from his jacket pocket and looking around for a moment before crouching forward and moving with him.  the man guarding the stables doesn’t go unnoticed,  and kieran grabs onto johann’s sleeve - hoping he’ll stop before they’re too close for kieran to make an alternative plan than going in and slaughtering their way through their escape route.    “wait -- we can wait until he’s left his post and get on the horses without... without having to kill ‘im.”
