My husband and I have started booing people in this exact situation, full Patrick style, and it has incredible social power.

A whole bus booed a guy with us on the way to the airport, and by the time we got to Logan, he was covering his dang mouth. A road rage guy apologized after cutting us off cus we booed him at a light, and the car behind us joined! People like a deserved public booing, man. It's like throwing emotional tomatoes. Shaming is how we keep social decency alive. 🍅🍅🍅

Forgot my name at the bakery today while signing for a cake. I just stood there like the emoji man. The poor girl asked if I was okay and I just said "I got married." Then signed the rest of my name and left.

Not "I recently changed my name," not "sorry, I blanked," just write, write, write, stare into the void for an uncomfortable amount of time, "I got married." Write, write, leave.

She looked like she wanted to ask if I was okay and I hope she put it together but dang, I offered very few context clues. I said thank you, but there were other people waiting. Anyway, sorry to her.

Then I ran home (literally) with my freezer bag like it was a bomb cus it's 92°F and one landscaper guy looked concerned and I just yelled "ITS AN ICE CREAM CAKE!" And I think you could tell I just ran a half marathon yesterday and maybe that's why everyone looked so concerned. I dunno, can I like, get my shit together though? I live in this community. These people know me. Sure it's as "the girl who takes pictures of flowers" and "the lady who got in a bike crash," but still, like... What am I doing?

Happy birthday husband, I've made a fool of myself yet again. Thank you for being cool enough that when people see us on our evening walks, I regain some credibility to my name. And also for catching me every time I trip on the sidewalk. ❤️

Okay, so here was my original plan, in a quick line-art zine, because I didn't know how else to communicate it. It wasn't very fleshed out, the PTO handbook/survival guide was fun to play with, but it was more a concept and aesthetic jammed together—there's not a story here yet. The kids were going to find the old guides in the school library and use them to find the monsters their mothers originally defeated, but it was taking the focus away from the BAMF mom-energy I wanted. And also kids aren't that good at saving the world, and they shouldn't have to be... so back to the drawing board we go to outline an actual story.

When we were hiking in Scotland on our honeymoon, I told my husband that he could get another wife but only after he makes dead-me a memorial bench, except I accidentally said "make me into a bench." So he was thinking skeleton-bench, which, to be fair to him, is something I would come up with. He hated the idea because he's the romantic, but now, whenever he's floundering through the anhedonia and executive dysfunction lows of dreaming up what happiness could look like if we lived in a world without friction, I just start yelling BENCH WIFE! BENCH WIFE! I COULD BE YOUR BENCH WIFE AND YOU'D BE HAPPIER! And it's so ridiculous, it doesn't fix the problem, obviously, but we both get a giggle and then live in the present reality instead of the impossible one long enough to get outside and try a weird drink or something.
