ensnared-in-a-daydream:
The sudden shift in the child’s mood forged a smile on Setsuna’s lips and a soft giggle to pass them also. She was certainly an energetic sort, the kind of child that would probably run rings round her if given half the chance, not that Setsuna would really mind.
“Oh, Lady Hinoka… she’s the princess we look after. She’s back at base… but yeah… calling out to him might be for the best, he’s probably still close…”
Her ‘plan’ would have honestly just involved them wandering around for god knows how long until Setsuna realized they were lost, not that she’d factored in that last part.
“I’ll call out too…”
Cupping her hand to her lips she began to cry out… in a volume that was honestly less of a shout and more of a very subdued yell.
Following Setsuna’s example, Shika cupped her hands around her mouth and called out for her father. Unlike the archer, however, her cry was extremely loud, startling a flock of birds and causing them to fly off in a panic.
“Oh! That’s who the Hinoka lady is! He said something about seeing mom as well, I hope he’s doing alright!” Gripping her spear tightly, Shika looked around, trying to see or hear her father. When minutes passed and nothing happened she sniffled again, moving to stand next to Setsuna.
“M-maybe we should head to the Hinoka lady? Dad probably hasn’t noticed I’m gone yet...” Despite the nice things Azama did for her, he hadn’t exactly been the best father figure in the world.
|| Short maybe single-para starter call for Shika!!!! Like/reblog or whatever!
|| You know, thinking about it, I don’t think Shika would follow in her father’s footsteps and become a retainer.
She’s much too selfish and unwilling to make compromises that she’d be a shit retainer.
Not to mention she rushes ahead in battle and won’t protect someone unless they mean a ton to her.
ensnared-in-a-daydream:
Slowly, her lips drooped and a glimmer of sympathy twinkled in her uncovered eye. She’d lost Azama many times in the past… mostly because she had gotten herself caught in a hole or rope trap, but that was besides the point.
“Hey… it’s alright. I’m sure he’s ok… he’s very smart so he must be… I think…”
Resting a hand onto Shika’s shoulder, she patted it before looking around lazily. There wasn’t any sign of his bushy mane anywhere… but he couldn’t have been far. It seems like hunting was back on the cards for her. “Eitherway… I’m sure he’s looking for you too. I’ll help you… Azama and Lady Hinoka always say i’m pretty reliable… so you can definitely count on me.”
Or was it unreliable…? Hm… No, i’m sure it’s the first one.
“Thank you Miss Setsuna!” Brightening up almost immediately, Shika jumped up and hugged the older woman. She had no clue why her father insisted that his coworker was so unreliable, she was basically saving Shika’s life!
“I think papa was headed back to ummm... some Hinoka lady? He wanted me to meet her, but I don’t know why...” She had honestly zoned out when the monk had started talking, too busy taking in the world she could have grown up in.
“I’m gonna call out for him so if he’s nearby he can come to us!” It seemed like a perfectly reasonable idea to Shika, but she waited to see if it fit in with Setsuna’s plan. The older woman had to have a plan already, she was sure of it.
caligraqueen:
>==✒️ Mitama had to try really, really, really hard not to wince or let her eye twitch as she watched her younger sister commit what as essentially murder to poetry. Sure, it was touching that Shika was trying to mimic her sibling’s works, but Mitama could quickly see that the girl had no talent for it. Careless calligraphy, poor wording, and countless lines where the count was completely off.
“Th-That’s, ah, very nice, Shika.” She replied, faking a yawn to keep her face from showing the absolute horror. “How long have you been working on those? I did not know you had an interest in writing.”
“About an hour or so! Papa showed me one of your poems and I got really inspired! I’m probably going to stick to my spear though, it’s a lot easier than writing.” With how much she had been hounding the monk, it was likely that he had just shown it to her as a last-ditch attempt to get her to do something else.
“I’m glad you liked it, sis!” Giving the other a big smile, Shika put the brush down and picked up the paper she had written her abomination on. The still wet ink slid down and made the writing even more illegible than it was before.
“You can keep it!”
ensnared-in-a-daydream:
Hunting had gone surprisingly well so far, but only because for once, she hadn’t run into any traps. But there was still plenty of time for her to do so, not that she even considered that in the first place.
After a seemingly endless stretch of silence however, she heart a soft sobbing close by. Finding something for the camp to eat would have to wait, as her mind casually slipped toward it’s new objective; finding the source of that crying.
Following a short search, she happened upon a smallish child with glistening cheeks and a snuffly nose. Something seemed familiar about this kid…
“Oh… you’re Azama’s kid… right? What’s the matter…?”
“Ms. Setsuna!” Sniffling heavily, Shika ran to the archer, tears flowing down her cheeks.
“Papa... p-papa was taking me to see mama b-but I lost him and now he could be hurt!” Her knuckles were white from how hard she was gripping her spear, the metal shaking just slightly.
“You work with papa, right? S-so you can help me find him!” Surely someone who knew the monk better than she did (though it stung to admit) could help her find him!

“Sis! Sis! Look at me, I’m making haikus like you!” Grinning widely, Shika swung her feet absentmindedly, brush dripping ink onto her paper. Her creation (and even calling it that was being kind) was... certainly nothing like her sister’s. Each word was blocky and smudged, ink spilled in random places.
“It’s a lot harder than using my spear but I think I have the hang of it!”

“Hey Kiragi, let’s go hunting! We can have a competition to see who can bag the biggest bear!” Hopping up and down, the brunette was nearly vibrating with her excitement. She had heard from good sources that the young archer was a terrific hunter, but she had to see for herself. Besides, she wouldn’t let anyone beat her at anything!

“No way! No way! I refuse to accept that fortune, Youta! There’s no way I’m going to lose my spear tomorrow!” Considering how she kept it clutched to her person nearly the entire day, Shika didn’t think her fortune was really going to come true.
“Come on, do another one. That one was crap.”

Letting out a loud cry, Shika leapt in the air and brought her spear down on the dummy, cutting a large chunk out of its’ straw and burlap body.
Huffing harshly, she grinned and swung her spear behind her head, gripping near the head with her other hand. Turning to her audience, her grin got even larger, till it spread from ear to ear.
“Well, what do you think? Pretty impressive, yeah?”

How had she managed to lose her father yet again? Sniffling, Shika tried to stop her eyes from tearing up, holding her spear tightly to her chest.
Was she really such a terrible daughter that she couldn’t keep up with her father during the short time she left her Deep Realm? Wiping at the tears with her sleeve, the young girl looked up when she heard footsteps.
“Hello?”

“You fight with a lance too, right sir?” Standing behind the pegasus rider, Shika observed the other’s weapon, her own spear gripped in her hands.
“How do you fight and not hit your pegasus? They seem more like a hindarance than a help if they restrict how you fight.” She was genuinely confused, as her personal decision-making tended to favor high damage and versatility.

How they feel about cold weather:
Shika doesn’t really mind the cold, it doesn’t bother her but she wouldn’t want to be out in it forever. All in all she’s pretty neutral on it.
How they show affection:
Protection. If Shika protects someone that’s her way of showing affection. If she offers to help someone train then she considers them very near and dear, since she is showing that she wants them to be able to protect themselves should she be unable to reach them in time.

Where had that stupid father of hers gone? Walking around the camp, Shika searched high and low for the monk, though not a trace of his was to be found. Arms crossed across her chest, she tapped her foot impatiently.
Where could he have gone?
Sighing, she decided that adding people to her search party was most likely the most productive route for her to follow next. Approaching the first person she saw, she tugged on their shirt lightly to get their attention.
“Excuse me, have you seen my father? He’s about yay tall, got hair like mine, eyes are closed all the time, enjoys being a general asshole?”
Let’s get this party started!!
