wait a minute, wasn’t that 22-year-old ESME CHASE walking through the town square? i heard that they’ve been living in augusta for THEIR WHOLE LIVES and they live at #04 FAIRVIEW CLOSE. i often see them ON THE TV where they spend their time as REALITY TV STAR. the people closest to them say they are WITTY & TRUSTWORTHY but also BITTER & SARCASTIC.

I feel like there was originally an expectation to portray the ‘bad ass’ with quintessentially masculine characteristics. What I find so enjoyable is to really incorporate the complexity of the female mind, which - for me personally - includes a softness.

hellooo everyone! i disappeared for a bit and i’m very sorry. depression wanted to fight the last few days but i won so suck it. i’m gonna try and bang stuff out tonight but it might have to be tomorrow’s project!

lina sat on a bench in the park, arms folded protectively over a child size bag adorned with embroidered ducks. her attention was entirely captivated by a toddler, a few feet in front of her, alternating between chasing the ducks and proudly presenting the brunette with various leaves and pieces of bark he found on the ground. as he tottered back to her, a large green leaf extended, her smile widened. “ wow, thank you, “ she gently took the leaf and held it over her heart. “ good job. i love it. “ as he once again began to inspect the ground for more treasures, lina looked away briefly, her attention captured by someone standing near by. she held up the leaf, “ if you would’ve told me ten years ago that one day, a big leaf would be the best present anyone could ever get me, i’d have thought you were crazy, “ she laughed and made room on the bench. “ want to sit? it might sound boring, but there’s actually nothing more wholesome than watching a toddler attempt to terrorize the wildlife. “

esme held her sketchbook carefully cradled in one arm, the other hand going nuts with pencil on paper. hanging out with aline and august at the park was a perfect time to get a beautiful scene in. plus, august was adorable. “if it makes you feel better, i don’t think having a kid has changed you all that much, lina,” esme offered with a distracted smile. she was barely looking at the paper, focused entirely on the scenery around them. “no, i have a perfect view from here. just gimme a minute... i just want to get the tree line perfect. and that old lady over there. she’s important.”

esme laughed along with sonny, seeing the irony in this situation easily. “well, go figure. only you, sonny.” she pursed her lips at this news that her older sister and one of her closest friends didn’t get along, disappointed. “well, i’m going to give her hell about it, too, so together we’ll wear her down. sound good?”

the girl scoffed as she finished up styling her friends hair. “ please. can you smell me right now ? can you see my hair matted together from the beer i dropped on it earlier ? stunning really isn’t the word that comes to mind, “ she retorted, examining herself in the mirror with a sigh. “ but the show must go on. i really don’t think any kinda strong-arming is gonna convince her, she runs away every time she sees me, “ she chuckled. “ that sounded like a joke but i genuinely saw her in maggies the other day and she ran away and told me not to follow her. “

“that’s what i’m saying though,” she whined, touching sonny’s hair and patting her cheek. “even though you could totally pass for a drunk right now, you still look beautiful.” esme’s mouth fell open upon hearing that little story. “what? no, she did not. you’re kidding.”

the girl rolled her eyes, running her fingers through her friends hair and tousling it a little more for volume. “ if that’s what you think a pile of shit looks like, i’d love to see what it looks like on a good day. “ the girl laughed, shaking her head once more. “ you’d own that runway, b. next time i’mma make sure you get up there, who better to represent a chase brand than a chase herself ? “

she let sonny take the reigns on her wild mane for a moment, watching in the mirror. “you’re one to talk,” she fired right back. “you’re stunning no matter what you’re wearing or how you wear your hair.” she rolled her eyes. “oh, please. there are plenty of chases in plenty of spotlights with plenty of branding. i don’t think another is necessary. you, on the other hand. next time you gotta strong-arm emmy into letting you up there.”

Caleb shrugged as he tried to seem like he wasn’t watching her while he clearly was. “I’m not sure. Someone asked me if I had seen you because one of them was looking for you.” He nodded. “No problem, I’ll find some somewhere.” He started opening some of the supply cupboards. “Leave it down, it looks good.”, he said without turning around.

“alright, thanks,” she murmured, tapping her fingers on the sink absentmindedly. now she had to go find them all and figure out which one it was, which would be another issue in and of itself. how exciting. she glanced back at him when he mentioned her hair, biting the inside of her cheek. stared at his back. brow furrowed. but finally, she tried to brush it off with a halfhearted joke: “you’re not even looking at me. how would you know?”

sonny had been given a short break and she’d been desperate to go to the bathroom for all of three hours, so that was exactly what she intended to do. running into the room, she stopped suddenly when she spotted her friend esme, gasping at how pretty she looked. “ esmeeeee look at you !! “ she exclaimed, forgetting all about the task at hand. “ you look so pretty, i love your hair like that. are you walking the runway tonight ? emmy said i couldn’t ‘cause i’d fall over and ruin it or something so i’m on bar duty. “ she pouted, giving her friend a hug. 

“seriously?” esme asked, incredulous. “it’s a total pile of shit. birds have probably already nested in it.” she raked her hands through it a few more times, then finally gave up and turned to sonny fully. “runway, me? no,” she scoffed on sonny’s shoulder as they hugged. “i could never.”

Caleb had opened the door and stoped when he saw her. It was still awkward talking to her and she seemed distracted. Plus she was messing with her hair, he had always liked her hair and disliked when she complained about it. “Uhm, yeah sorry. Your sister is looking for you. And I’m on the hunt for more cocktail napkins.”

esme always tried to seem as normal and well as she possibly could whenever she saw caleb. she wasn’t ever sure if she pulled it off. “which sister?” she asked, trying to fix the mess she’d made on her head. maybe if she pulled it back? ugh, no, worse. “i have no idea about napkins, sorry.”

the woman let out a breath, calming down as she heard her sisters voice. “no, no..” the girl sighed, “i just – “ she wanted this to be perfect, she wanted their mother to be proud for the first time in her life. she wanted her to know she could do it by herself without her constant nagging and disapproving looks. “i need to breathe for a second.” esme straightened up, before calling for someone to come pick up the crystals that were shattered all over the floor. “just be careful, es. don’t hurt yourself. ” she walked towards the girl, walking away from the shards of glass on the floor. “how is it out there? is everything going well?” she questioned, her thought flew back to evelyn, and the press that was out there. she specifically had the press sit at a different side of the venue so they would have no contact with her. “i don’t know if you know but evelyn’s ex leaked inappropriate pictures of her today..” the anger was clear in her voice, messages and letters all ready sent out to the  mans employers about the kind of man they had working for him. “she’s distraught and i can’t be with her.”

esme could tell emmy was stressed. she was usually stressed, but this was bound to be a hard night for. even though this event could be her pride and joy, it was always a huge source of pressure. impressing mom, impressing the media, keeping track of everyone and everything in the vicinity. “try to let go of the things you can’t control, em,” she advised softly. “you’re back here and you need to focus on this. let us handle the rest. josie’s on board and i’m here to help too.”

she grimaced and nodded when her sister mentioned evelyn’s fuckwad ex. “i know. i’ve been checking on her,” she told emmy, even though the truth was that the whole town was here and it was impossible to keep track of anyone in the crowd out there. “but everything really is going well. it looks beautiful out there and everyone’s having a really good time.” aside from me, she thought with a mental sigh.
