Christian tells a story about his early days in the WWF
[Occurred 1998]
I had a payment plan for my student loan. The payments started going up and up, and I didnât really understand interest and all those sorts of things. So I call them up and say, âHey these payments keep going up and I canât afford it.â
They tell me well this is the reason why and this is how itâs set up, and
I told them, âIf you leave it here, I can pay youâŚbut if you keep moving it up, Iâm not gonna be able to. So if you do it this way at least youâre getting somethingâ
They told me thatâs not how it works, so I just just stopped paying it. So sure enough they pass it on to a collection agency, and I would get calls here and there for the better part of a year and Iâd explain what happened and they would tell me all the things that were gonna happen and I was like, âI have nothing, so I donât know what youâre thinking youâre gonna get from meâ
Finally after 4 or 5 collection agents this one guy called me, and Iâll never forget his name, his name was âSnooksâ, at least thatâs how he referred to himself. So he called me and said, âYour files been passed around the office for like a year and everyoneâs kinda given up, but Iâm gonna get you.â
Heâd call me weekly, and weâd get in arguments and either heâd hang up on me or Iâd hang up on him. Somehow, I donât know, I guess he did some digging or something, but he found out that I was a wrestler. So he called me up and was like, âDid you get a job yet?â
I told him âWell, Iâm still doing these odd jobsâŚâ
He said âSo, I heard youâre a wrestler?â
I said âWell yeah, howâd you hear that?â
âI got my sourcesâ he told me. Heâs taking this thing too seriously.
He goes âWell, obviously youâre not very good, or else youâd be able to pay your loans back. Youâre not gonna make it, obviously, so why donât you suck it up, be a man, quit this dream you have, and go get a job like every other normal person and pay back your debt.â
I responded, âI intend on paying back every penny but Iâm not giving up on my goalsâ
That continued on for another 5 or 6 months until I ended up signing with WWE. I got a few checks in the mail that were a little more than Iâd ever made before, so I call olâ Snooks up, and this was the first time that Iâd ever called him so I think he was a little thrown off. He answered and said âWhatâre you calling me for?â
I told him âJust wanted to let you know I got a job and wanted to know
how much itâs gonna take to clear this up?â
Heâs like âWell, we can set up a payment pla-â
And I said âNo no no no, how much is it gonna take me to pay it off in one shot, one check?â
He says, âYou have that kind of money?â
I was like, âWell, I do now.â and he goes âIf you donât mind me asking, whereâd you get a job?â
I was like âUmmâŚWWE. I donât know if you might have heard of the highest rated show on cable television?â
Then thereâs just complete silence on the other end! And, prior to this conversation he had told me they had a nickname for me going around the office, and it was âNo Future Reso.
So, itâs still quiet and I go âYeah, so much for that no future theory, huh? So just tell me the amountâ
He goes âWell, hereâs the amountâŚâ
I said âNo problem, youâll have a check next week. Oh, and by the way, next month we actually have a show in Toronto, Iâm gonna send a couple tickets and you can come watch me perform.â Then I said, âIâm sure we wonât ever talk again, so I just wanted to let you know while youâre sitting in your cubicle and driving your pinto, Iâll be retired by the time Iâm 40, have a great life!â and I hung up.
