Why in my opinion rucaya ain’t a love triangle.
The writers said multiple times that what maybe happening might not be really happening about the triangle and when someone complained about the triangle they said to stay with them, keep watching it’s not like we think it is .
When a rucas shippers tweeted that the writers broke their heart with lucaya and that rucas fans are losing hope they tweeted they shouldn’t.
They said it’s not a triangle. (A love triangle can only be a love triangle when two people have romantic feelings for the person who is in the middle of the triangle in this case Lucas.) So let’s see firstly we have Riley it’s been established on the show more than once that what Riley feels for Lucas are romantic feelings.
“ I’ve seen the way you look at Auggie and Lucas it’s not the same way.”
“Riley still loves Lucas.”
That whole sibling dynamic was broken. According to Zay, they ARE alike but it doesn’t make them like siblings . The writers wanted us to know via Zay that it only means rucas have a lot in common.
“You already have a great brother!” “I’m her ONLY brother.”
Well who doesn’t have a brother?
We all know that Maya wants a real family like Riley.
What we also know is that Maya is currently CONFUSED about what she feels for Lucas. She says “ Is it possible to love two people at the same time?”
She isn’t quetioning who she loves more like lucaya shippers always bring the J. Depp quote. “ if you love two people at the same time choose the second …” but this quotes isn’t accurate in this situation because Maya isn’t asking herself who she loves more, who she should choose.No, she’s asking IF she does has feelings for two people at the same time.
We all know that she has romantic feelings for Josh that are more than a crush like she said herself but does she really see Lucas that way? Was Riley right that making fun of someone and caring about someone’s safety automatically means you like them romantically? Riley outed Maya. Riley was the one who gave her these thoughts in her head about liking Lucas.
But does Maya really see Lucas in that way?
Which brings me back to the the whole sibling dynamic.
When Riley wanted to be Lucas’ sister well pretended to be she said“We are exactly like you and Maya were.” And tried to tease him the same way Maya used to doing that “ha huur” thing in front of his face.
“You make fun of him because you like him.” I don’t think so.
I think the writers are telling us otherwise. That yes sometimes it means you like the person you tease but in this case they’re trying to “destroy” this cliche and make lucaya a bro/sis kind of relationship.
When Lucas and Maya were on a date they had nothing to say to each other, when he started talking she poured the smoothie on his head and went back into what they do best which is teasing each other.
“ They liked each other better when they teased each other.”
One could say that Rucas had an awkward date as well however in the rucas situation Farkle being the person who speaks for writers, basically told us that the only reason they weren’t good together as a couple, isn’t because they’re not meant to be one and better off as friends– but simply because they were nervous.
They did not say this about Lucaya.
What they also keep tellings us is that Rucas are good at talking to each other.
You’re one of my favorite people to talk to.”
“I’ve always been able to talk to you.”
“All I know is, I always wanna be able to talk to you.”
“We’re gonna care what each of has to say for the rest of our lives.”
“You’re at your best when you’re just talking to each other.”
“You like his stories, and he likes yours.”
We’ve been preparing you since the library,” writer’s quote + The “dates.”
During the library scene rucas connected the first time. He told her his “ranger rick stories” and she listened. During the date with Maya, he attempts to tell her the story he told Riley - that she liked to listen to - the one that started their connection and got them talking but Maya wasn’t interested. So their date wasn’t awkward because of nervousness but because the lack of interest/things in common to speak about.
When Riley said she doesn’t want to talk to Charlie Lucas hears that their date involves no talking and asks, “What? Who goes on a date and doesn’t talk?”
Again, the writers are hinting that Lucas is that person for her.
The reason corpanga had their first break up was because of the same reason.
They didn’t wanna start hating each other once they break up which is Riley’s biggest fear and part of reason she pushed Lucas in the brother zone. ( The other reason because she thinks Maya likes him.)
Farkle does say that Lucas MIGHT CARE for Maya, but they KNOW he likes Riley. And in GMNY he said “ We don’t know what Maya feels.” But tells the audience that Riley still not only likes Lucas but LOVES him.
So, all in all I have a feeling that once this all gets solved, Maya will step back, (She will use “sense” and makes a decision that won’t get her into trouble this time.)
knowing that what she felt were platonic feelings and what the writers kept telling us will be confirmed in the end. It was never a love triangle.
