“i am so glad you’re okay.” sydney sighed. a smile broke through her tears as daisy squeezed her back. she was so scared she would never get to experience a hug from her daughter again. the emotional duress she had been living ever since finding out that joanna’s whereabouts were unknown had been taxing. but now with daisy in her arms it was like the world was spinning once more. the stars aligned and now the world could continue. where to go from there, sydney didn’t know, but at least it had to go somewhere. “will’s okay.” sydney promised and nodded. “she’s in town- i found her. or she found me, i guess. she bumped right into me one day, actually.” it was still surreal to say that will was alive. as she explained, she began to gently move strands of daisy’s hair out of her face. she didn’t want anything disrupting the view.
when she heard someone else’s voice, sydney paused and looked over. being referred to as an old friend was a knife in the stomach but she understood. she couldn’t exactly pass for daisy’s mother anymore- in fact she probably had a fake mother to go along with her fake life. that plunged the blade in a few inches deeper. as much as she wanted to say i’m not her friend- made her- i’m her mother! she refrained. instead she forced a grin she didn’t really mean and nodded in agreement. once daisy was out of her arms, sydney clasped her hands together, discreetly digging her nails into her skin as a distraction. only so much time would be able to pass until she could no longer pretend to be unaffected by her children growing up without her… but now wasn’t the time.
“i guess there is.” sydney agreed, relaxing a little more once they were alone again. i wanna hear about you though. a thousand voices in her head screamed NO at the thought. the last thing she would ever admit to daisy or abbott was what kind of life she had been given in port vista. “other than will i’ve only seen jim hopper. do you remember him?” sydney asked. “he, uh, he’s the one who told me that you both were here. that will was alive.. and that APPARENTLY i don’t have all my memories.” she tried to sound as casual about that as possible but there was no way to be complete successful. “honestly, joanna, you’re all i’ve thought about in weeks.” sydney said, taking both of daisy’s hand as she spoke. “i wanna know about you and your li-” her train of thought fell short as her thumb brushed over an engagement ring on daisy’s hand.
a sigh of relief left her lips followed by a soft whimper at the mention of will being around and daisy already knew that was going to be what she had to do next -- find her little sister. her best friend. “hopper? of course i do.” her brows furrowed, though her face softened ever so slightly as she explained that she didn’t have all of her memories. that made more sense than anything, they had known will was alive for a while before everything else got confusing. “well, what’s the last thing you remember? i can try and fill you in.” daisy assumed talking about things would certainly help memories come back to her, and who better to talk to than her daughter?
"remember when i said there was a lot to catch you up on? and that guy back there?" she mumbled nervously as the conversation stopped and her mom had clearly noticed her ring. though she didn't say much more until they reached daisy's towel and bag, digging in to clearly find something. "so this one happened like two years ago. and..." she trailed off, slipping her wedding ring on top of the engagement ring. "this happened a few months ago." her voice was hesitant, but it was easy to see just how happy she actually was, practically beaming. if all she remembered was will being missing and had lost memories, then she would have no idea about nancy and that simply meant that they had never had a talk like this. a relationship talk. they certainly had THE TALK, but nothing like this where she was talking her through everything going on in her life. "and he's... he's nothing like dad. he's honestly the sweetest human and has always treated me like.." how you deserved to be treated, a little voice in her head mumbled before she sighed. "like a queen. as cheesy and stereotypical as that saying is."
swallowing after a moment’s silence, she shrugged. “what do you want to know specifically?”

emmanuel seemed patient, he was patient but jim wasn’t. he was the opposite of it all. jim wasn’t meant to be fine with his life, not an academic— not one who volunteered for anything. it almost seemed wrong to keep living the life he did. he looked down at the woman, brows furrowing as he awaited for her to recognize him. it wasn’t that he hated her husband but he knew she could’ve done better. he thought joyce could do better but look where that ended up. all prior efforts were thrown out the door to calmly approach the kids, they weren’t kids anymore so that helped. “i mean– his name is francis and he wants to act like the saint. it seems like some sick joke.” he muttered as he crossed his arms across his chest. he wasn’t going to move, not until she seemed to acknowledge his presence. thank goodness, she remembered. it wasn’t a joke, it was real. “i only judge you because i care,” he nodded his head.
“yeah, but he is a saint.” and he truly was the sweetest to her. she was just glad she had found someone who was a good man, a lot better than her real father, that was for sure. she opened the door wider then, taking a step back to welcome him inside. “well, you shouldn’t judge at all, because i’m fine -- and happy.” daisy explained, turning to her with her brows furrowed. “as soon as i woke up, you know what my first thought was? wow thank god this guy isn’t version of lonnie --- of my real father. no, francis is much more like bob or like hopper.” she mumbled, “i’m fine. and don’t let this cloud anything with his school work.. he’s a smart guy, and you obviously know that.”
rosesweetener:
“oh my god.” the words that fell out of her mouth replayed in her head over and over again. oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. she had not actually expect the impulsive path to lead her to her daughter. but there joanna was, standing before her, a fully grown woman. sydney was in shock just by staring at her but she would not dare look away. in her mind, there was nothing else in the world more important than looking at. the world around her had fallen silent- she couldn’t even hear the party anymore. there she was.. her joanna. her little, beloved joanna. the very first person that taught sydney just how unconditional love could be. the word mommy was uttered so quietly but she heard it in surround sound. “joanna!” syd repeated, both hands flying to her face as her emotions took over. she was in awe, she just needed a moment to stand and stare. as tears started to trickle down her face, sydney nodded. “it’s me, it’s me.” she promised, moving her hands just so she could. “i’m right here.”
slowly sydney walked towards the younger girl. her eyes took in as many details as she could- she wanted to memorize what daisy looked like. she never wanted to forget this moment. because for the first time in months, it felt like she was finally breathing. both of her children were okay. she had found both of them. with her own two eyes she saw that they were both okay. sydney placed her hands on daisy’s shoulders, taking another moment just to look her completely over. “look at you.” she whispered, almost in disbelief. seeing her so grown up was an indescribable feeling. “just.. just look at you!!” sydney said, quickly pulling daisy in for as big of a hug as she could possibly swing. she held her tightly, not giving a damn at how strange either of them might look to the people the other had arrived with. all she could do was tighten her hold on her eldest daughter and press a kiss to the crown of her head before looking up to whisper a thank you to God. “jo.. oh, honey.. i’ve been so worried about you.”
she should have been concerned that the woman was saying her real name so loudly, but she couldn’t bring herself to hush her --- mostly because she was breaking down in front of her and causing an equal amount of a scene. daisy was always so strong, so collected, and rarely showed emotion, but she knew she could do it in front of the woman who loved her at her best and her worst. a nervous laugh left her lips as she was clearly being inspected, amused at how she was taking her in. though it was totally understandable considering the fact that she hadn’t seen her in so long and certainly hadn’t seen her at this age. sixteen year old joanna was a lot different to the twenty four year old, but thankfully she didn’t look all that different and had simply matured over the years. “i’m so glad to see you.” she smiled against her shoulder, giving her a tight squeeze just as she was getting in return. it had been a hard adjustment at first, but now she was just glad to be able to have the parent who cared for her most back --- she was truly praying that lonnie was no where to be seen.
“i’ve been worried about you too -- and will. is she around? please say she’s here.” she didn’t think she could deal with her sister not being around again, it would certainly break daisy down even more now that she knew joyce was around. it did make her question who else was walking around port vista and she had absolutely no idea. was nancy around? steve? and were will’s friends walking around too without her even realising? so many questions she was dying to know, but all she cared about was the woman in front of her. forget the party, now all she wanted to do was catch up with the other. the girl’s head lifted from sydney’s shoulder once she heard the frantic splashing behind her, turning once she heard ‘daisy’ being called out and the two women were met with a much taller man, being addressed with questions about why she was crying and if she was okay, evident that the man was worried. “hey.. no, i’m fine, i promise.” her smile remained, just as genuine with the man as she had been with her mother. “i’m just going to go catch up with... an old friend, alright? just text me when you’re thinking about leaving and i’ll let you know what i’m doing or where i am.” she leaned up to place a kiss against his cheek, mumbling something about going to enjoy himself before she spun back towards sydney.
“there’s... a lot to catch you up on, i guess.” daisy’s eyes narrowed down at the sand, trying her best not to get upset about the years they missed out on. as soon as it was out of her mind though, she met her mother’s eyes again. “i wanna hear about you though and if you’ve seen anyone else --- because i haven’t.”
rosesweetener:
it had only been a glimpse. just a quick glimpse of a brunette as she made her away from the crowded centre of the beach party. sydney had only seen her for a second before she was gone. for a moment she remained there- parked on a beach chair in the sand. but the longer she sat, the more she unable to deny the feeling in her gut. there was something. something about the way she talked. something about her. it was unshakable. once that was established, sydney quickly got out of her seat and headed in the direction that daisy had gone. she didn’t care about leaving the group- she didn’t want to be at a party to begin with but her brothers had convinced her she should. but her only priority was finding her first born child.
sydney weaved through the crowd as quickly as possible, impatiently muttering ‘excuse me’ over and over again as she forced her way through. for a second she lost sight of the girl she had been following and her anxiety kicked in. oh, God, was her mind playing tricks on her? had she truly seen her daughter walking by or was it just an illusion? or was it just a girl who resembled her? sydney couldn’t tell. she looked around frantically. she refused to believe that it was a hallucination- she had to learn how to trust her instincts. as the sun was nearly done setting she spotted daisy standing down by the tide. it took a little bit of a pep talk but eventually sydney found the courage to approach her. she slowed down once she was a couple of feet behind her, biting down on her lip as she tried to keep herself in check.
“…joanna… ?” sydney asked. ||| closed for @notlikemcst
parties had never really been her thing. not as joanna, and certainly not as daisy. granted she had a lot more friends now than she once did but thankfully they weren’t big party animals either. she figured it was a nice day to celebrate the fourth of july with her loved ones and friends and let loose for once and she was surprisingly enjoying herself. it had been hard being around the people she considered family in port vista for the simple fact that she now knew everything had been a lie and had just been waiting on them all to see the truth too. she hadn’t told her parents, or friends or even her husband that anything was going on out of fear that they’d think she was absolutely crazy. she feared losing hem, especially because she had no idea where her mom or will was.
“alright, calm down, i’m coming!!” she laughed as she spotted her husband beckoning her to the water, running her hand through her hair as she walked towards the water. though she had stopped to just look out at the view, watching the people she loved with a fond smile. it had disappeared in an instant as soon as she heard her name, all the colour draining from her face as she didn’t bother to turn around. not yet anyway. she knew that voice and she knew exactly who had just found her. having to take a quick second to calm herself down and remind herself that this was all very much real, she slowly turned around, her bottom lip trembling as she laid eyes on her mother.
it was her. even if she looked a whole lot younger, she knew that was her mother. hands shaking by her sides, she forced a smile on her face -- knowing that as soon as joyce spoke, she was going to break down. the woman who talked her out of her believing that her younger sister’s disappearance was all her fault, the amazing mother who managed to find will and protect the two of them with all her might, the single mother who had been through more shit than most. it was definitely her. “mommy?” she whispered, much like she would do as an infant before taking a step toward her. “m o m, is that you?”

the man had showed him a picture, the more he looked at it the more he recognized the woman. she wasn’t always a woman, not when he first met her. now, she was married with a new family. no, no, no. that was not acceptable, not for him. not when he knew her mother was suffering and she told no one about the marriage—- to one of the most boring people he had ever met. he smiled at the man as he bragged and managed to get out of his conversation making his way towards their home, which he had revealed in the midst of all the conversation. he made his way to the building, pressing all the buttons knowing someone had to let him in. he maneuvered through the halls until he was standing in front of her door. it was dumb. it was stupid. it was irrational but had to be done. he knocked and waited. he furrowed a brow as soon as she opened the door. “really? of all the people in the world you decided to marry that guy?”
@notlikemcst
of all people to be knocking on her front door, she had never expected it to be a stranger. if anything, she thought it was her husband having forgotten his key, but not this guy. daisy’s fingers quickly moved to her left hand, protectively covering her ring then. “---have you got the wrong place? i mean.. we just moved in a few months ago so.. if you’re looking for someone else, they aren’t here.” she mumbled, eyes locked onto the ground as she tried to build the courage to actually look up at him. it wasn’t like she was bad with people and communicating, but with how condescending the greeting seemed? she wasn’t particularly excited to try and identify him. “and if you’re really talking about my frankie, he’s an amazing guy and treats me so well. i married him for a reason, but i don’t see how that’s any of your business. now, if you’ll excuse me.” she finally looked up as she was about to close the door, though her hand immediately fell off the handle once she actually looked at the man and realised who it was. god was she happy to see him.. even if she still look terrified of the other. “---hopper?” daisy whispered in disbelief, opening the door the tiniest bit wider to get a better look at him. “is that really you?”

diiscotheque:
“no, you really shouldn’t. this should all seem pretty normal to you,” eliza agreed with a small shrug, her tone slowly losing its dramatic flair. but as always there was always a chance that it would come back - that’s just how she operated. “stop !? you want me to stop !? did the long spiel on what would happen if i had to pay for my coffee just go in one ear and out the other ? were you even listening ? do you not care about the world ending ?” and just like that, the flair was back in action. “okay fine. but out of curiosity, which part of that was the overkill: the kids in the bomb shelter or the ‘honey, i shrunk the kids’ reference ?”
“i listen to absolutely everything you say even if it doesn’t seem that way.” that’s just how she operated. she knew what people said to her even if she was doing the hardest thing in the world, which came in handy with her job. and was also a trait she seemed to carry with her from her past life too. “both were very you so i don’t know if i could pick one.” a small smile began to tug at the corner of her lips, knowing that any of her teasing would go right over eliza’s head. “less of that talk. what about this love life of yours? i want to start doing double dates with someone and you’re my current go-to.. so tell me everything --- if there’s even anything to say.”
diiscotheque:
“my own coffee ?” eliza asked, in a tone that could make someone think the original question was ‘why don’t you just shoot yourself in the foot ?’ “do you know how much coffee i actually go through ? or how much it would cost me to pay for my own coffee habit ? i would drink myself out of house and home,” she explained, picking up her head. “i go to the daily dose because there is a very young, and very emotionally weak barista who cannot for the life of him seem to make me pay for coffee. i go in, i flirt with him a little bit, and he stares at me like i’m a greek goddess. it’s a good system, a great system that sustains me.” eliza sighed. “the coffee i keep at home is for emergencies. like, the great blizzard of ‘84 kind of emergencies. ‘get the kids in the bomb shelter’ emergencies ; ‘toto, we and the house are not in kansas anymore’ emergencies. ‘honey, i shrunk the kids’ kind of emergencies !”
“oh god, i shouldn’t be surprised.” her eyes rolled playfully, settling back with her arms crossed. “you definitely make me laugh, i’ll give you that. but stop using that poor boy, he doesn’t know any better!!” she scolded, practically beaming. it wasn’t a bad thought. getting coffee for free seemed like a real dream considering the amount of times she could drink coffee in a day depending on her job, “alright, alright, i get it. but right now? it’s sort of an emergency so time to crack that coffee out.”
flowcrmoons:
❛ ◈ “YEAH…” chanel admitted sheepishly, embarrassed by the fact. “and the worst part of it is that i could see my keys sitting on the side table through the window.” she didn’t show it on her face, but a small percentage of her spirit fell as she was told to keep studying. it wasn’t daisy’s fault, and she couldn’t possibly know, but chanel was always looking for signs that she should do something else with her life. “yeah, you’re probably right. i just.. maybe a break, though ?”
“we’ve all had moments like that --- it happened to me a few months ago and it was just lucky that i forgot to close the window and could climb back in instead of having to phone my husband.” daisy rambled, the simple memory making her smile but she did understand the whole thing. “a small, tiny break.” she nodded. “and i mean tiny.. if you work hard, you’ll get the best result possible. but it’s your life.”
nightpromised:
“It is actually.” Alistair preferred the night, but he couldn’t deny the beauty of the day. He did wonder if people actually sat around observing the nature around them. He supposed it wasn’t unlike staring at the stars. It brought a sense of peace, sparking inspiration or hope. He’d taken a seat both because he was curious what other people felt when they weren’t running all over the place constantly and because he thought he recognized her. “It’s Daisy, right? I think we attended high school together.”
her head tilted towards him as soon as she heard her name, a soft smile appearing once she recognised the man. it wasn’t like she was incredibly popular in high school, hell, she was a lot better off than she had been in 1983 --- but at least she knew to appreciate everyone from a young age. she liked to think that was the old her shining through without her even realising. “alistair, right?” daisy smiled, a small nod following as if to confirm his words. “wow, you look great. how’re you?”
diiscotheque:
“it was,” eliza corrected. “until i got to the daily dose and discovered it was closed for no reason. and now there’s no good coffee left in port vista, which means i’m either going to die or i’m going to become homicidal. there’s no in between. but - bright side - if i die, i’m going to come back as a zombie and then become homicidal. so there’s potentially a two birds, one stone situation on the horizon.” funny how a lack of coffee never kept her from continuing to talk so much. groaning, eliza pressed her forehead into the picnic table.
“you can’t just settle for your own coffee if you’re that desperate? especially if you feel that way?” she may as well get some caffeine into her if she was that desperate, and at least it would make her feel slightly better, which was pretty important. “you really are suffering, wow.” daisy’s head shook in amusement, her elbow resting against the table as she rested her chin against her fist. “just relax, hun.”
theelainarcheron:
dianna though that her mind was playing tricks on her. she was dreaming of another life and another world. maybe it was all because of her imagination….but she dreamed of magic, death…and war. she wanted to find a sunny place to read and clear her mind. her sight moved to the stranger and she surprisingly …she smiled. loneliness was killing her slowly and she didn’t want to be alone anymore. “ it’s lovely, but you don’t look pleased.”
“don’t look pleased? i’m pleased.” daisy replied, her phone slipping into her pocket as she was clearly done with listening to the video she had made confessing things. “i’m just.. tired.” that wasn’t true. but how was she supposed to explain to a stranger that she was remembering a different life and had practically fought monsters back in the eighties. “don’t worry about me. it’s nice outside so i’m definitely feeling it.”
flowcrmoons:
❛ ◈ “I’LL SAY,” chanel agreed with a smile. she loved when it was warm. that’s when she felt happiest and healthiest, even if there was probably no correlation between them and the weather. there was just something about the sun that felt healing. “which is why i’m totally not freaking out that i accidentally locked myself out of my house… at all.” chanel huffed quietly. that just wasn’t true. “maybe the universe is trying to tell me to stop studying.”
“you locked yourself out of your house?” she repeated, though despite her surprise, her face didn’t twitch or remotely change. it was certainly the biggest downfall of finding out who she really was --- it was how her real identity seemed to take over and she wasn’t amused by much. “no.. i think you should keep studying actually. it’ll be worth it.”
towcrgirl:
—— “it is !” arabella agreed, glancing around and gazing at the beautiful scenery around them. port vista couldn’t hold a candle to the wish realm, but hey, it was still beautiful in its own way. “it’s especially lovely today. i’m surprised this place isn’t more crowded right now.” after finding the page of her novel where she had left off, she turned her head towards daisy. “oh, i’m sorry.. did i disturb you ?”
“i dunno, i’d give it a few more hours. it’s still early so i bet there’ll be families running around soon. kids running around, causing a mess.” she smiled, though it disappeared a few seconds later as her mind went to her real little sister. that was certainly a family she wanted reunited, excluding her father, of course. for now? she was content with the parents she had been given in this world. “no, n-no.. you didn’t.” daisy said quickly, stumbling over her words. “i promise you didn’t.”
