14-year-old Jesse Romero was shot and killed by a LA police officer Tuesday, August 9.

Romero was suspected of writing gang-style graffiti in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles.

The boy was fatally shot while attempting to flee the scene. Romero allegedly had a gun, witnesses say he threw it away before he started running.

Before you come up with the “He deserved to die - he had a gun and tried to run away” bullcrap, ask yourself what you would do if you were a 14 year old teen of color and the police were after you. Ask yourself if it’s fair that communities of color live in poverty. Ask yourself if you’d say “he deserved it” if it were your white 14-year-old son.

Teresa Domínguez, Jesse’s mother, is mourning her dead child: “I can’t believe he’s dead…I can’t believe it. I feel like he’s going to come back, but I have to accept the truth.”

Jesse would have turned 15 on August 24.
