Day 58-61

Day 56: Haim Saban

By now, hopefully, you've seen Joseph Kahn's awesome power rangers fan film Power/Rangers. if not you can find it by clicking here It's really cool to live in a world where this quality of fandom and fan fiction can exist. the term fan fiction seems to belittle it honestly. This film is meticulous and cool and fun and awesome. But the point stands that Kahn uses copyrighted characters that don't belong to him, so without permission this is only a fan film. Which i think is bullshit. Haim Saban (the "creator" of power rangers and the owner of the IP) came out and claimed he might take legal action against the creators of the fan film. He denounced the fan film and the idea of fan films. According to Kahn, the Saban Entertainment has been harassing him about taking the video down.  I wish old men would have better foresight. I wish stuffy companies would see the opportunity in front of them. I wish people wouldn't stifle or punish creativity for the sake of capitalism. But that's the other thing. It's not even good business to take this video down. Power/Rangers has over 11 million views in just a little more than 2 days. That's fucking phenomenal. That's unheard of. This is a win/win. People are more excited for the Power Rangers brand than anytime since it's early nineties hay day, but a very shortsighted corporation wants to shut it down, because they want the money that Joseph Kahn is making off his video. which is absolutely nothing. Kahn reportedly has not accepted any money for Power/Rangers. He said on twitter “Saban is trying to shut Power/Rangers down, If you’d like to keep watching, tell them to stop harassing me.” “Every image in Power/Rangers is original footage. Nothing was pre-existing. There is no copyrighted footage in the short. I am not making any money on it and I refuse to accept any from anyone. It was not even Kickstarted, I paid for it myself. This was made to be given away for free. It is just as if I drew a pic of Power Rangers on a napkin and I gave it to my friend. Is it illegal to give pic I drew of a character on a napkin to someone for free? No.” In the end, perhaps he's wrong. Perhaps Saban has every right to stifle his creativity and shun its fan base from creating with the pre-exisiting properties. maybe he broke the law with his art. Maybe some art is illegal. It's a dangerous thought and a slippery slope.

Day 55: Mini Blackberry pie recipe

Ingredients

Pie crust 1 1/2 cups flower 8T Butter 4-5 T cold water Fist of sugar 1/2 T Baking powder Filling 8 Oz Blackberries 3/4 cup of sugar 1/4 cup of flour 1 blood orange Crust  mix the dry ingredients cut the butter in with a pastry mixer or by hand add the cold water 1 T at a time, only add the 5th if the dough doesn't form. Roll the dough on a floured surface and cut small circular shapes with a cup roll the circles further and place in a greased muffin tin. Filling In a pot heat the blackberries and the sugar. Mash some of the blackberries to release the juices. add the flour and mix until there are no lumps. Cut the orange and release all of the juice. Be sure not to let seeds into the pot. mix until the berries become cooked and gel. add the filling to the cups and bake at 400 for 15 min. serve warm with whipped cream

Day 51: letting go

I need to let go of control. I can't fix everything. No one wants me to, and I don't have it in me. That's ok. I just need to be ready for what life throws at me, and worry about myself a little more.

Day 50: Day 50!!!!

I got to day 50, which is so much farther than I had assumed I could go. I think now it will be easier to continue. I don't want to mess it up. I know I've missed days -three to be exact- but I made all of them up, and now I've gotten myself even. I'm kinda proud.

Day 49: Excited/Revenge

I've got a lot on my plate lately, but I'm really excited. I've cut people out of my life, and I've left poisonous parts of my life behind me. I'm really just trying to work on me. I'm not bitter, but I'm not not bitter. I am just working on that whole, living a good life part of revenge.

Day 46: SNL 40

It was kind of awesome to watch the 40th anniversary of SNL. I think what made me the happiest is seeing people who have become lazy in their persona and careers look motivated and reinvigorated for the first time in a while. People give Adam Sandler and Mike Myers a lot of grief, but they did use to be some of the funniest people in the cultural lexicon. This night was a reminder that with a little more effort they could be just as beloved as some of the more contemporary members, and some of the more legendary members.  Opera Man Rules!
