TIRED OF BEING FORCED TO BABYSIT a lot of the children within the community, Lizzie asked another woman if she wouldn’t mind taking over for a bit while she went to the restroom. Of course, that was a lie. She didn’t need to go to the bathroom, she just needed to get away from the kids. And honestly, she was TIRED of being treated as if she was INCAPABLE of helping protect the group. She snuck into the ARMORY when no one was looking and grabbed a revolver, then a handful of ammo. After she stuck the ammo in her jacket pocket and she slid the revolver under her waistband, she snuck out of the Sanctuary. It was NIGHT, so it wasn’t too difficult of a task.
If the Saviors wouldn’t let her go with them to scavenge supplies, then she would just have to SCAVENGE some herself. Besides, she needed new reading material and the Sanctuary didn’t have a whole lot in the way of fictional books. She made her way to one of the nearest neighborhoods. It was EXTREMELY dark out, so it was difficult to see and she wasn’t too comfortable with shining a flashlight in case she ended up attracting unwanted attention.
During her TREK through the neighborhood, she could see a figure seemingly WANDERING through the streets. She followed for a short time until it became apparent that ONE, the figure was human and not walker, and TWO, they looked to be female. At least, that was what she assumed from the lack of light. Out of curiosity, she continued to follow her. The girl only had to turn her face just slightly for Lizzie to recognize her. It had been a long time. Very, very long, but she would RECOGNIZE that face anywhere. And her mouth dropped open. She had to FIGHT not to be SPEECHLESS.
❝ M-Mika? ❞ she called out. She QUICKENED her pace until she was right behind the figure. A hand lifted as if she was getting ready to reach out to the girl. ❝ MIKA? ❞ Please let it be true.
A PASTEL WONDERLAND , the neighborhood had once been home to pretty housewives & perfectly manicured lawns , the sort of place that , back when things were normal , mika would have ogled at from the smudged backseat windows of her fathers car ; but things had changed , & mika had finally begun to change as well .
ALONE AMONGST CRACKED SIDEWALKS , a game had begun ; a pebble beneath each foot s l o w l y dragged along concrete , leaving white trails behind as the only proof of her sad attempt at fun ; it would continue , down quiet streets & past quiet homes , mika’s stride only faltering as a noise was heard . a noise which sounded suspiciously like her own name .
THE SHOCK WAS ENOUGH TO SUPPRESS FEAR , legs which once would have carried her with q u i c k c o n f i d e n c e now glued to where they stood . it was s o m e o n e , but it couldn’t have been h e r !
A SMALL HAND AUTOMATICALLY REACHED DOWN , digits warmed by the muggy night closing around the handle of her blade . ❛ L I Z Z I E ? ❜ small & afraid , the sound of her own voice sounded like that of a stranger .
