How I feel about this character

It still breaks my heart to think about what the show did with Carl. This kid was the future, and I know that they’re taking that arc and giving it to Judith now, and don’t get me wrong I adore Judith and what they’re doing with her, but Carl’s loss, and the way he was lost, and the reason he was lost (to give Rick a reason to keep Negan alive *sighs*) and just… everything surrounding his death was such a missed opportunity and such a disappointment after seeing Carl grow and mature and knowing what this kid was supposed to mean for the future.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

This poor boy barely knew anyone in his age range growing up lol, I think really just Enid. (And Marco, bc @shootfortherightreasons has gotten into my head on that one :P )

My non-romantic OTP for this character

I really adored Carl’s relationship with Michonne, they had such a great dynamic. Their interactions were actually what got me to start liking Michonne after not being much of a fan throughout most of season three.

My unpopular opinion about this character

So, this is going back but I honestly never had an issue with Carl’s character?? Back in the early seasons I remember him being widely disliked –– the way a lot of kid characters are disliked, I guess. People complaining about him being a kid who, you know, occasionally did kid-like things, flipping out for “being reckless and getting Dale killed,” and hoping for him to be killed off, and… I’m not sure that opinion even largely flipped until he actually died. But, even in the early seasons, I always enjoyed him and liked watching this kid learning to adapt and survive in this new world.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

That he didn’t die. Or, failing that, I wish he’d been given a better and more meaningful death. I just… hate that he was killed by a stray Walker in a pointless fight that he should’ve known better than to walk into. He deserved a lot better than that.

“First off, your thumb shouldn’t be underneath your fingers. Makes your fist weaker,” Daryl instructed, grasping at her hands gently to nudge her thumb out so they could protectively rest across her fingers towards her knuckles. “Then you gotta stand up straight. Back straight. Seems counterintutive almost, but y’gotta put your weaker hand and arm out further, holdin’ your stronger one back closer towards your body. Gives you a way to protect with your weak arm, and adds some strength to your strong one when you propel it forward from back there. Here - like this,” he said, standing behind her body so he could place her arms accordingly. He was happy to agree to do self defense lessons with her, knowing she needed this sort of thing to be safe and protected should she ever be out there on her own again like after they got separated. But now that he got her back from Grady, he was going to make sure she was prepared (though if he could help it, they wouldn’t be separated again).

He moved so he could stand in front of her, looking at her positioning and nodding as it was exactly correct. “Alright. Go on then. Punch me.”

K.C. has taken far worse swings than that, but somewhere, deep down, perhaps she appreciates that Beth would rather not be violent. However, she’s determined to make sure her new friend accomplice can take care of herself. This punch at least causes K.C. to rock back as well, though she looks unbothered.

“That’s not bad. But c’mon, B. You can hit me hard, I can take it. You can’t hold back on me, or you’ll hold back on someone else, too. It’s not just the corpses you have to defend yourself from, you know? It’s the breathers, too.”

Hands find themselves on her hips. “Let’s see your fighting stance.”

Daryl toes a clump of snow at the base of a tree. The seedling rocks and shimmies causing little splashes of white to fall around the pair as he takes a break from sawing to take a look around the forest. In the middle of the night with all the snow around? It’s silvery and blue and black. If Daryl wasn’t particularly not-so-fond of the cold? He might even say he liked it out here. In the dead silent with the glow of night around them reflecting off banks, icicles and pine trees made heavy with what the clouds have been dumping on them for hours now.

When the last sploosh! falls at his feet, he turns his head and gives the blonde beside of him a lopsided grin. That’s when he notices half of what he just shook out? Didn’t land on the ground. It was stuck to her shoulders, hat, and all over her coat. Their eyes meet and he cringes before wondering if it’s a good thing he has the saw in his hand. Considering he might need it for self-defense in a second. Uh…whoops?

“Prolly should get back ta gettin’ some firewood to dry out, huh?” His last saving grace maybe? Distraction. A flimsy distraction attempt at best. Least he tried?
