colette is more than grateful for her upbringing because it kept her humble. her parents worked hard to give her everything and she will forever be blessed to have them in her life still. she is an only child and now that she is an adult she does the most to give back to her parents. whether that comes in the form of money or a homecooked meal is up to them.

friends came and went for her growing up. she wanted to keep relationships, sure, but she was so focused on her goal of becoming a great chef that she just....put them on the metaphorical backburner a lot. she tries not to do that with the people she has in her life now, but it isn’t always easy. she is incredibly driven by her work and her passion and she is just now trying to balance that and a social life.

she knew cooking was something she wanted to do since she was a kid. she used to help her mother out in the kitchen and after getting her hands on gusteau’s cookbook she was sold. she idolized gusteau more than anything and his mantra “ anyone can cook.” she took that to heart as she moved forward in the culinary world. 

she learned that the culinary world was pretty male dominated early on, but she didn’t let that get her down. if anything, it fueled her to work harder and to show she was better by pouring her heart out in every single dish she made. she was often dismissed as a baker early on in her career, but she was much more than that and that scared the other guys in the same world as hers. she had made more enemies than friends but she just took that as a way to sharpen her skills further and make enemies her fans.

french cuisine is her favorite to make, obviously. she likes refined food and beautiful looking food and she thinks nothing is prettier than french cuisine. she also is a big fan of german cuisine and italian cuisine. 

chez paris is her baby. her beautiful baby that she will make sure remains the best of the best. as much as remy can annoy her to no end, he is the best of the best, so she is happy to have him in her kitchen.

alife is...a complicated situation. she cares for him so deeply, she really wants to be a part of his world, but she doesn’t trust him after he lied to her so cruelly. when he started working at chez paris she was his biggest supporter and risked her job to help him and he just...lied. she just wants to move forward, but she fears that means losing alfie.

she is a wine snob. she will only drink the best of the best. and yes, she can tell the difference. 

she drives a motorcycle and it is her second baby. she does not let many people ride on it.  do not touch her motorcycle. 

sarcasm runs through her veins and her sarcasm and slight aggression is the way she shows her love for people. often misinterpreted but she doesn’t let that get to her. she is an incredibly confident woman and she figures the people who are meant to be in her life love her for who she is and the people that don’t can fuck off.

she owns a very expensive knife collection that she is very, very proud of. they are proudly displayed on the wall in her kitchen and her personal kitchen is her safe haven.

she is a complete control freak when it comes to her space. she doesn’t have people over often because she likes her place the way that it is, but every now and then she will host the smallest of parties to share her food with the people she loves.

she takes no shit, she is not afraid to throw punches, and she is good at what she does. period.

Colette truly valued Atta’s input, which was why she asked her for advice and notes in the first place. She always said that Atta would make a good food critic if she ever wanted to leave the family business, but she knew that was something that wasn’t ever going to happen. Still, it was a little entertaining to see this side of Atta just as much as it was important to her. “I will make sure you and Kit have the most romantic spot in the house. Maybe then things will start to create some sparks. There is nothing like a good meal to bring people closer.” She knew this wasn’t ideal for Atta, but she didn’t want her to not at least find some fun out of it. “Trust me, I am banning every and all smelly ingredient I cannot suppress the scent out of.” No matter what Remy thought. “Filet mignon is such a classic meal, but I still find it to be too basic. What can I add to make it a bit more....interesting?”

Despite Colette’s obvious disdain with Blaise, she liked one of his newer friends Belle. She was a very smart woman and she had good taste in books and Colette actually liked reading a lot in her downtime. Fantasy worlds were a secret joy of hers and she wasn’t embarrassed by it at all. Normally, her type of book was more thriller-based or murder-mystery kind of thing, but she was willing to take suggestions. Her only vice was most romance books because she found them to be silly. Still, if Belle really and truly asked her to read one, she would do it because she adored the woman. 

She made the trip to Echo Creek’s Library just to spend a few hours browsing the shelves with Belle. She was convinced the woman had the entire place memorized so if she needed help finding something, she knew who to turn to. They had only been there for a few minutes before Colette was going over to Belle to see what she had in her hands. “Is that a new book or something you have already read?” she teased with a smile. “You know the point in being here is finding something new, non?”

Colette was finally ending a long day’s work. It had been busier than usual so the kitchen was bustling more than normal. Colette thought one of the chefs might faint during the lunch rush and thank the gods they did not. She even noticed Remy needing an extra minute to keep up, which is what showed her he was still not quite ready to be head chef. It was a delicate art, timing was absolutely everything, If Colette cared about anything it was her time and she was very much looking forward to going home and getting a nice bottle of wine and drinking herself to sleep.

Of course, she was stopped in her mission by none other than Blaise Lumiere. Why he was in her restaurant at closing, she did not know. All she knew was that she found the man anything but desirable. “What do I owe the pleasure?” she asked, her voice dripping in sarcasm. “I am sure you are not hear for a cooking lesson, non?” Though she felt he could use it. He was a fantastic chef, truly, but he could be so much more if he stopped it with the distractions. His name was in the tabloids more than anyone else somehow because of his romantic trysts. Private life for a chef was supposed to be just that. “Quickly. I am done with work and want to move on for the night.”

Logan came to unwind from a stressful day at the track. He could keep himself slipping lately, getting distracted, not driving like he used to. For so long he’d been unafraid of anything that could happen during a race but since meeting everyone at Radiator Springs he’d found something to keep him from being as bold as he used to be. Logan was still getting back into the groove of things while also getting ready to hand over the torch to Cruz. She was the legacy now. That’s why when it came to coming to the tavern for a drink after wasn’t something he did for it to taste good. “Hm?” He questioned upon hearing her, his face breaking out into a smile. Logan was chuckling to himself while listening to her offer. “Guess I’m just not a fancy kind of guy but I could be convinced.” Whatever she was selling he was buying, she seemed like she knew way more than he did about this sort of thing. “I got it, I’ll cover yours too since you’re showing me after all.”

Colette was aware she probably sounded a little intense, the difference between her and others though was that she was more than confident enough to not feel shame. Shame was for people who didn’t fight for their dreams. “I know a lot about good liquor, okay? I am easily the best person you could look to for this sort of thing.” She waved his offer off. “Non. I will buy it. It is polite for me to do as such. You can maybe buy something for us later if you’re liking what I’m showing you. I want this to be an experience, so please, do not try to outbid me here.” She gestured for the bartender to come back over to her and ordered them both a drink. When the drinks came she gently nudged his to him. “Go on. Try it. If you hate it, then maybe I will allow you to take over the tab. But you will not hate it. Non. You will love it.”

Colette didn’t normally go out to drink alone. She normally dragged along her friends or found a temporary date so that she didn’t have to deal with strangers bothering her. Tonight she was in a good mood though, so she was fine with new people trying to speak to her. She could easily handle her own if it came down to it and if anything, she was looking forward to a few drinks and maybe conversation. For a while she slowly drank alone and that was perfectly fine. Nothing soothed her soul more than a drink after a long day’s work. Eventually someone sat next to her though and began to speak and Colette turned herself so that she could face them properly. “Non, non, non,” she said with a sigh, shaking her head. “This is not the night to have a simple drink! It is the kind of night that you ask for the finest thing they have and just go with it and see where the night takes you. Are you afraid to take a risk?” She held her drink in her hand. “This? Very expensive. But it okay. Because tonight will be a good night. Would you like me to order you one? I can pay for it this time.”

“Oh non, non, putain non!” Blaise had that exasperated look on his face as he placed both hands behind his neck while he shook his head. Of course, he was watching football games like any other man. The boy was betting on the losing team, which he had emotionally and physically invested in for the last few months. Despite all the news about him, Lumiere was able to keep afloat by drinking and watching the games. “Fuck.” He exclaimed, placing his cigarette on his lips with shaky hands. The turmoil that was building up around him was indescribable, and he knew that people would eventually have to deal with a very unstable Lumiere (once again) in the next few days. The state of his body was still in shock from the high of the game, and he sat frozen, staring blankly at the restaurant walls. Equally, he wasn’t the only one bleeding in the French restaurant, so at least he had a sense of collective sorrow.

The mournful look on his face was suddenly cut short by the fellow chef in town. “Not now, not now.” He raised his hand, as if pleading for a reprieve while he struggled to bring his soul back to reality. Colette had a thing for hating him, and while he tries to always be on her good side, the games sapped any of the boy’s will power. “I feel like a part of me has died.” He said out loud, smoking for dear life. “What are you doing here?” He asked, confused as to what had led her to his restaurant. As usual, Blaise was not working. Why would he? He’d probably close the restaurant early now.

Colette did not normally entertain herself by going to the competition’s place of dining, but she had to pick up food for Alfie and he had sworn it would be quick. She did not like that he was eating other kind of food, but she made the trip because he was at the restaurant and she was not. She knew that today was the World Cup and while Colette would prefer Chez Paris to not play sports on televisions like some casual eatery, France was involved, so they had it set up nicely for it. She was already dreading walking in to the restaurant being in some state of chaos because of them winning or losing. She needed more than anything for Alfie and Remy to keep the place afloat in her absence and if she got this food for nothing than she would seriously debate murdering them with her hands. 

Of course she spotted Blaise the moment she walked in. He looked worse than usual so she assumed that France lost. It was a hard thing to stomach, she could admit that, but she wasn’t going to show that on her face like some loser. No, she would handle her rage privately or sweat it out in the kitchen. “I am here for food, obviously.” She rolled her eyes at him. “If what happened think what happened then you need to get up and stop acting like this. Are you not French? This is how the commoners react! You are supposed to be a refined chef! Take it seriously.”

“I know you don’t really do private chef work anymore, but hear me out, okay? I can give you … whatever you want, name a price, and you know it also comes with a wine night because I love you.” Atta couldn’t even fathom having to cook for how many people were in her family. Though her mother had helped her in prior years, after retiring and getting weaker by the day, it was probably up to Atta this year. There was a company holiday party, too, which required catering, but Atta had put in a request from Gusteau’s months ago, just to be sure that they had enough food for every employee, Hopper’s division included. “Just think of it as a few extra portions when you’re making the company spread! That would be perfect. I don’t care if it’s the same menu–even though most of the family works at Dreyfus, they won’t even notice because it’s so good.”

Colette understood what Atta was saying, she really did. But she wasn’t sure if it was the best idea to get involved with her family like that. She adored Atta more than anything but what if her family didn’t like her food? What if she insulted the wrong person by accident? She loved when she was a private chef, she did, but at least at Chez Paris she was doing what she wanted and running things the way she wanted to. “I will do this for you because I love you and I do not want you to suffer for the holidays. A good meal really completes it all.” She gave her friend a smile. “And no, no, please do not try to charge me. I don’t need your money. I just want to cook. So what all do I have to prepare myself for?”

✨ Biography:

Ever since Colette was a little girl, she knew she wanted to cook. Her mother taught her everything she knew and her happiest memories were cooking with her in their little kitchen. Her family didn’t come from much, but it was okay because nothing brought them together more than a good meal. Colette learned early on that to make it far into the industry as a female chef, she had to be tough and better than everyone else. She spent all of her free time when she wasn’t in school learning and doing what she could to perfect her skills and take out any competition she had. It started with her cooking classes in school and when she got into culinary school the battles only grew tougher but Colette was not the type to let any kind of challenge stop her. She did not win every single battle she ever had, but she always went back in with even more determination to overcome. She was passionate about food and what she cooked and she made sure that her passion shined in her dishes. She especially loved French cuisine because she had family that went back to Paris and when she was out of culinary school and right into the real thing, she knew the only place she wanted to work at was Chez Paris.  She fought her way to head chef and when she was finally offered the position she knew she deserved, it felt like everything had finally came together the way it was supposed to.

And then Alfie Linguini and Remy Roy entered the picture. Alfie came in with nothing but lies that he could cook, and Remy was his punk accomplice. At first, Colette was fooled. She was really falling for Alfie even, despite the fact that he was moving up the ladder faster than she did. She had thought for one second that she could be fine with it if it meant she got a relationship that mattered from it. She didn’t really date much or have a lot of friends because she spent her entire life dedicated to being the best chef she could be, but once it was revealed that Remy was the chef impressing the customers of Chez Paris all along, it changed a lot for Colette. Remy went to school and now that he is properly working in Chez Paris, she is taking a step back to let him shine. He was annoying at most times, but he had some really great talent and was a natural improviser. Colette spent the time she had lessening her reign creating her own life outside of the kitchen. Things with Alfie were better since it turned out he was Gusteau’s son and inherited the place, but Colette doesn’t fully trust him after he had lied to her so badly. So for now she is playing the field, going out more, making friends, and proving to herself that now that she has what she wanted, she can want so much more still. Colette is not a quitter by any means and if she wants anything, she will go and grab it with a victorious grin on her face.
