My name is Squirrel, and I decided I needing a dumping ground for all my OCs and AUs. This used to be an rp blog, but I've long since stopped using it for that purpose.
In honor of Disability Pride Month, OC Challenges has teamed up with @negative-speedforce-ocs to host a week-long event, from July 25th to the 31st, celebrating disabled OCs! Per Revan's brilliant idea, each prompt is based on the symbolism behind the colors and design of the Disability Pride Flag. I am honored to bring this challenge to life and hope you'll join us in celebrating, creating, and highlighting disabled original characters all week long!
RULES:
This challenge is for disabled ocs only… hence why it’s called the disability pride challenge.
Tag your posts with #odpc26 in order to have them reblogged. (please do not tag any non-challenge related edits with this)
Reblogs will be done through the last week of July (25th to the 31st) in accordance with the events happening.
DON’T steal edits. If you feel your edit or someone else’s has been stolen, report it to our submission box by following these guidelines.
If you want to make a crossover edit with somebody else’s oc, make sure the other person is okay with crossovers.
Feel free to send us any questions and keep in mind that all challenges are up for interpretation.
Be kind!!
Challenges under the cut!
DAY ONE (JULY 25th): GREEN: SENSORY DISABILITIES
Create something for an original character with a disability that affects their ability to process sensory information such as sight, hearing, taste, touch, and/or smell! (Rutgers)
DAY TWO (JULY 26th): BLUE: PSYCHIATRIC DISABILITIES
Create something for an original character with a disability that affects “mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of an individual!" (The ADA)
DAY THREE (JULY 27th): WHITE: INVISIBLE AND UNDIAGNOSED DISABILITIES
Create something for an original character who has a disability that is not immediately visible or "obvious" to others (Invisible Disabilities Association) or who you have created/written with a disability but does not get diagnosed or outwardly named in their canon!
DAY FOUR (JULY 28th): GOLD: NEURODIVERGENCE
Create something for an original character "whose brains develop or work differently" (Cleveland Clinic) due to a "neurological or developmental condition" (Harvard Health Publishing)!
DAY FIVE (JULY 29th): RED: PHYSICAL DISABILITIES
Create something for an original character who has a disability which effects their "physical functioning, mobility, dexterity or stamina!" (United Spinal Association)
DAY SIX (JULY 30th): THE BLACK FIELD: JOY/RAGE
In a world that tries to treat people with disabilities as if they are lesser, joy is an act of rebellion and rage is a necessity. How does your OC find joy, express their anger, or turn either into an act of resistance?
DAY SEVEN (JULY 31st): PARALLEL LINES/DIAGONAL BAND: SOLIDARITY AND SLASHING THROUGH BARRIERS
Show your solidarity and pride by celebrating and highlighting others with disabilities! Make something using a disabled creators (authors, singers, artists, etc.) work as inspiration, show us canon disabled characters that your oc relates to, do a crossover between your disabled character and someone else's, or even make something for someone else's disabled character as a gift!
I'm gonna be honest, if a Tumblr post mildly shitting on what you perceive as a flaw you have, has the capacity to make you give up on pursuing writing, then you're the type of artist who's going to be unwilling to improve or learn and will forever create bad art, which is still art, but not something I think even the people around you would lament on "missing out". The alternative is also you're the artist who will double down on said flaw just to "spite the critics", which if you also embody the average fandom tumblr-user, will probably result in the most tone deaf racist art imaginable. So also, not a big loss.
Bad art has worth. Even if it is just to the artist, that is enough. I agree with the writing advice here and I agree that you shouldn't get so discouraged by a single tumblr post that you quit forever, but what is this nonsense that it's only worth making things if they're good? Or even more ridiculous, that if you express your discouragement here you're on the fast track to racist trash???
Op is being a fucking asshole for no good reason and is butthurt at pushback.
I can say it in a way that isn’t completely intentionally hurtful to novice writers or people who write character first.
Writing stories with cohesive plot is a whole different wheelhouse from oc creation and character lore development, so it’s going to be tough to nail the storytelling you’re used to seeing from authors you admire.
If you’re going to turn your beloved OC into a story, try and think of a plot as robust as your character before you commit to writing if you want it to come out cohesive. Other folks aren’t going to know your OC or their lore as well as you, and taking that for granted is tough to get over! I would try and think of the timeline of your OC’s story in a way that may overlap with pacing similar to works you’ve enjoyed before. Or look for stories that are similar to what you’re trying to do and learn from them!
Most of all, never let some insensitive dickhead dictate what you try and accomplish. Don’t let bullies say abusive bullshit and then backpedal to saying you’re the sensitive one, actually. Your stories deserve to be told and you deserve constructive advice that doesn’t tear you down for trying.
making a fictional girl group and i already decided who's winning the "survival show" except now i'm getting attached to the other characters i know won't make it while i'm writing up their profiles
thinking more about Daphne and decided she's gonna be on the night shift during the Valentine's Day incident and the reason Carter's pissy all day is cause they had an argument before he went to work so Daphne's terrified the last words she said to her brother were in anger :)
Nathan Ford’s semi-misspent youth resulted in the best thing he didn’t know he had: Kenna Reilly. Though she was raised by her mother, she got to know her father after the birth of his second child, Sam. But when Sam died, Nate pulled away, and Kenna's been left clamoring for his approval ever since.
As an associate for a massive law firm, Kenna has access to a list of clients that were dropped because they were unlikely to win their case or wanted to file suit against the firm's corporate benefactors. Upon realizing what her father was up to with Leverage Consulting, she leaked a few names to him and his team, and when those names inevitable led the team back to her, she demanded to join the team.
Just started Leverage Redemption and the dynamic between her and Harry is gonna be interesting. The lawyer in it from the beginning and the one trying to claw his way back from darkness, the daughter of a man obsessed and the father trying to earn his daughter’s love.

I mean I just write down little bits and pieces as they come to me, and there are some I’ve written down elsewhere but haven’t shared. In fact part of the reason I checked the inbox for this blog is cause I’m about to post something about an oc I’ve been thinking about on-and-off since starting Leverage
Have you thought about making more Power Rangers Ocs?
Not really, I mean I'm busy with work and school and other projects right now. Haven't done much oc stuff at all lately unless it's just jotting down an idea.
So… highkey feeling Daphne/Gallant but the way they get together will be… interesting. Gonna have Daphne ask the domme for her business card, then she and Gallant end up getting along pretty well during their breakfast club moment. And then when the ddlg dude comes into the er, Lewis asks Gallant how he knew that stuff about kink and it comes out that he and Daphne looked into some kink stuff when they started dating.
“Wait, then which of you…”
“Eh, we decided that particular kink wasn’t our thing.”
been watching too much er and i really want to make an oc who's john's little sister who's trying to follow in her big brother's footsteps (because i am nothing if not a sucker for the tagalong kid sister trope) and joins in season 4 someone tell me not to use Chyler Leigh in Grey's cause I used her for another doctor role in Ghost Whisperer but she does lowkey look like noah
Would you be able to write down all the faceclaims you've used for your ocs? I am very curious about who they all are. Some of them I recognize and others I don't.

Have you thought about doing super sentai ocs as well?
I definitely have, but I would want to watch the show first so I know what kind of character dynamics I'm working with, or if I were to make a sentai -> power rangers fancast I'd like to get a solid grasp on the plot to know what I want to keep and what I want to change.
I love your power rangers ocs, could you please make a part four of ocs for power Rangers that consists of a silver ninja steel ranger a black ninja steel ranger both being male, then a purpl ninja steel ranger and a green ninja steel ranger both being female Then dino fury and cosmic fury ocs?
So I don't really do requests, but if anything comes to mind I'll let you know!
For Dino Fury/Cosmic Fury in particular, I've got Deja and Alessia introductions in this post.
