Never kill yourself
it's been a bad year for essential workers, mental health, small businesses and probably many of the people reading this, but it's been a great year for hot takes
CHALLENGE:
You are now hosting a dinner party for everyone in this post:
Working Class CIA
Money Is Queer
Capitalist Aliens
tfw No Bestie
Trans Rights War Profiteering
Cute Korean Slurs
Xi Jinping Hamilton
Tobacco Connection
Cyber Communist Bezos
Hunter Gatherer Shoplifter
Who sits next to who?
(bonus: you can slide Working Class CIA 20 money to assassinate any of the other guests and frame Guatemala. Do you take the offer?)
This is the first good addition to this post in more than a year
i spent an absolutely insane amount of time on this and in doing so realised i’m probably more deranged than some of the original people in the tweets. i feel like i’ve been on a journey
puppy want a treat?
puppy want a fucking break from it all
If you want to get better at dialogue, sit down and listen to two people have a conversation and notice how often they say each other’s names while doing so. It’s far, far less than you think.
one of my remaining problems with learning metric is liquid amounts. looking up a conversion chart like do i convert gallons to liters or is that too small of an amount. would i look silly converting a quart to milliliters. would that be the equivalent of saying one mile is (looking it up) 160,900 centimeters. the word milliliters looks like a barcode.
i do actually get tired sometimes of having the same basic decency discussions around native culture. stop using the term spirit animal. don't use the skin word for shapeshifters. i saw a plushie kickstarter with the W word for a small skull deer plushie and it had already met it's goal. people just blithely repeating terms with no connection to their culture. actively profiting off of it.
Ok, so I'm down but a sentence here gave me confused and I'm hoping you have spoons to help me clarify my brain.
"don't use the skin word for shapeshifters"
I know that the We---- word is a closed cultural word, and I'm careful to not say it because I don't want to be an asshole
Is 'skin wa-----' offensive as well?
yes! though "offensive" is a bit reductive; it's not a swear or a slur, it's just a concept that the navajo would prefer non-navajo not to talk about, both because of their belief about how using it's name invokes/summons the being in some way and because of the ongoing appropriation and erasure of native culture.
so apparently netflix is coming out with another season of the tv series "Skin--- Ranch".
reminder that the original name of the ranch was Sherman Ranch and you can refer to it as such. secondary reminder this is all being driven by the white mormon ranch owner as a PR piece for his shitass UFO publicity.
Researchers found that small patches of wildflowers can foster the same biodiversity as entire meadows.
A caveat to this study: the researchers were primarily looking at insect pollinator biodiversity. Planting a few native wildflowers in your garden will not suddenly cause unusual megafauna from the surrounding hinterlands to crowd onto your porch.
That being said, this study backs up Douglas Tallamy's optimistic vision of Homegrown National Park, which calls for people in communities of all sizes to dedicate some of their yard (or porch or balcony) to native plants. This creates a patchwork of microhabitats that can support more mobile insect life and other small beings, which is particularly crucial in areas where habitat fragmentation is severe. This patchwork can create migration corridors, at least for smaller, very mobile species, between larger areas of habitat that were previously cut off from each other.
It may not seem like much to have a few pots of native flowers on your tiny little balcony compared to someone who can rewild acres of land, but it makes more of a difference than you may realize. You may just be creating a place where a pollinating insect flying by can get some nectar, or lay her eggs. Moreover, by planting native species you're showing your neighbors these plants can be just as beautiful as non-native ornamentals, and they may follow suit.
In a time when habitat loss is the single biggest cause of species endangerment and extinction, every bit of native habitat restored makes a difference.
wyd after taking this
we have to start running a massive PSA campaign to young gay people so everyone understands there is a difference between being a dom and being a top and between being a sub and being a bottom. and also that sometimes you are neither a sub nor a bottom and you're just like shy. we need to be handing out flyers we need ads at every train station spreading the word
"buy one, get one free!" no its not. I had to buy something to get it.
I had an account on a browser game once that was kind of like neopets and you could sell your in-game items and pets in auctions but you could get in trouble if you offered a bonus in your auction but advertised it as free. as in, if you said "win this auction and get an extra pet free" you could get temporarily suspended because its not free if you have to pay for it. you had to say it was a bonus. win the auction and get this extra pet as a bonus. and why isnt this rule applied to real life advertising.
turns out if you delete one procrastination outlet from your device you will end up opening another one.
mentally taking a drag of my mental cigarette because I don’t smoke but life has been very smokable lately
why dont you lay a post egg so i can reblog it
