i graded 15 papers today with intermittent vomiting lol thanks stomach flu 

i hate this so much

this grading is now 2 days overdue and i still have probably 2 more days of work to do on it. but it takes me so much longer to do it than it should because i get so unbelievably discouraged that i have to stop every like, 3 papers and pause to regroup.

first of all, i am always into 1d, i listened to “olivia” 47 times in a row just a few days ago to hold off a melancholic episode!! i haven’t listened to the new harry stuff because i’ve been listening to “something has to change” by the japanese house helplessly for 2 days now but i like “lights up”! it sounds exactly how the music video feels. i like the “la da da da da” part.

cursing past me for reading really interesting books in 1 sitting without taking notes, forcing present me to go back and spend hours deciphering margin scribbles and underlining

you know how youtubers do “reset days” where they go around cleaning, doing admin things, and just generally getting their lives together? i think i need that but for my quals. i need a day where i just sit with my mess of notes, make sure everything is in mendeley and formatted, transfer everything into annotated bib. form which includes my own “take aways” and connections, and then summarized on an index card to make mind-mapping easier.

the next week is going to be Fuuuuuuuucked unless i literally just sit down in front of my computer and work for 12 hours straight for 5 days. which i will do, because i have to.

basically we are looking at:

finish reading a bunch of articles for my directed reading course, input into annotated bibliography, finish analysis of annotated bib (due 29th)

fix up annotated bib for major area reading course and add analysis to each major section (due 31st)

finish and submit sshrc insight grant (due 30th)

make up rubric for my students’ various final assignments

quals list drafting!!!

finish draft 1 of SSHRC and send off for review

okay i worked like mad but some of this will definitely happen next week. plan in the next two days is to send off the coursework and grade 65 essays (somehow forgot to include that on my list). next week = quals and sshrc.

okay yall i did good today too—finished about half of that second annotated bib, in the process of creating a rubric for the assignments, and did a bunch of other work/committee stuff. tomorrow = finish the annotated bib. + finish the sshrc insight grant documents.

it’s monday around 2 p.m., i’ve read two articles and am reading a third, i’ve written a few analysis sections for my annotated bib., and will hopefully end this day having made significant progress on this one course. my goal is to finish by tomorrow!!!!! this includes all readings, all analysis, and all updates to the annotated bib.

day 16—spent the weekend with my mom, mostly outside and hiking. it was a desperately needed break from the grind and the city. i’m back on things now, with so much to do that i feel frozen but the break definitely helped. today i worked on my sshrc draft and i’ll do some RA hours after dinner.

day 7—today was lovely! i caught up with one of my cohort friends who just got back, and we chatted about qualifying exams. i also spent 3 hours working outside with this beautiful doggo!! got through some documents i had to edit and read a long article, all while feeling like i’m taking advantage of the weather. it’s going to be a long and busy week but now i have these moments of peace to draw from!

day 5—some things from today: blue August skies and late night working alongside @delphicoracle’s videos. i just love her videos’ vibes because i associate montreal with the summer despite the fact that i lived there most of my life and so know in my bones that it is 90% winter

today was another combination of appointments, reading, and RA work. i’m happy with the progress i’m making with everything but feeling quite exhausted. looking forward to updating yall about my weekend goals.

days 3 & 4—i’m at that point where i have so much to do this month that i’m having difficulty deciding what to prioritize! usually to-do lists and my planner solve this type of anxiety, but i honestly don’t know. this is also compounded by the fact that i have lots of RA work to do that is both urgent and pays very well, i.e., more appealing than working on funding applications due in over a month

in the past two days i have

done 5 hours of RA work

finished the first draft of the sshrc grant and sent it to my advisor

read 5 articles for one of my directed readings

organized my annotated bib for the same class (it’s my final assignment)

& an assortment of life things
