Update on Maria’s situation

For anyone not in the loop, Maria is the pseudonym of a young woman I am working to help get out of a very bad abusive long term relationship. I have been fundraising to get her out of her abuser’s home and into an apartment of her own, but we got set back by needing to get her an abortion first so she wasn’t tied to her abuser with a child, and with that out of the way, we’ve been trying to fundraise to get her enough to put down money for an apartment, but it’s been very difficult. I haven’t been reblogging the fundraiser post for a while now because honestly, it wasn’t going anywhere and I didn’t want to get her hopes up when we were still so far away from our goal. I think she had it in her mind that she could get out in a few months, but after we made enough for her abortion, momentum just sort of died. We are both so incredibly grateful and humbled by the people who helped get us this far, but we are still so far from where we need to be. I honestly just got depressed about it so I stopped pushing it. If anyone has any money lying around that they could donate, please consider helping her out. Orta says that after filming Garner’s death he was repeatedly harassed and targeted by police and arrested 8 times in a span of 2 years.

The man who killed Eric Garner, Daniel Pantaleo, on the other hand got a 15% pay rise since the shooting of Eric.

He got out of ‘his place’ and stood up against white supremacy and is now being punished for it, by ripping his family apart and trying to destroy his life.
